Service, Parade and Flypast marks the 70th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain Senior Royal figures, Politicians and Civic Dignitaries joined Battle of Britain Veterans and 100s of Worshipers at Westminster Abbey today the 19th September to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain. Following the service a parade of over 300 serving RAF personnel and a flypast by a Spitfire, Hurricane and 4 Tornado jets brought the event to a close. Members of the Royal Air Force Queen's Colour Squadron formed the Lining Party as newly qualified RAF Search and Rescue pilot Prince William joined his father and the Duchess of Cornwall for the service of thanksgiving and rededication along with Prime Minister David Cameron, Secretary of State for Defence Liam Fox and Chief of the Air Staff Sir Stephen Dalton. In a moving and poignant ceremony the Fighter Command silk Ensign was paraded for the last time before being laid up in the Royal Air

Picasa A GR4 Tornado from 9 Squadron takes off from RAF Lossiemouth in Scotland, headed for Operation Herrick in Afghanistan. The UK sent two additional Royal Air Force Tornado jets to Afghanistan, the Defence Secretary announced on a visit to British forces serving there. Dr Liam Fox, on his second visit to Afghanistan since being appointed Secretary of State, confirmed that the two Tornado GR4 aircraft were sent from RAF Lossiemouth in Moray, arriving at Kandahar Airfield Thursday 12 August 2010. The deployment followed a request by the Commander of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), General David Petraeus, for an increase in air support to provide greater protection to ground forces. The aircraft joined the eight RAF Tornado GR4s already provided to support the multinational pool and boosted flying hours by 25 per cent, or an extra 130 flying hours per month. The 25th anniversary of the liberation of the Falkland Islands took place in Stanley today with His Royal Highness (HRH), The Prince Edward, Earl Of Wessex KG KCVO in attendance as Guest of Honour. The days events started with a Thanksgiving service in Stanley Cathedral swiftly followed by a liberation parade and ceremony held at the Liberation monument. Music for the days event was provided by the band of Her Majesty's Royal Marines of Britannia Naval College. The parade was followed by the British Forces of the South Atlantic Islands (BFSAI) exercising their Freedom of the Falkland Islands by Marching through the Streets of Stanley with bayonets fixed and drums beating. The parade was followed by the British Forces of the South Atlantic Islands (BFSAI) exercising their Freedom of the Falkland Islands by Marching through the Streets of Stanley with bayonets fixed and drums beating. Also in attendance besides His Royal Highness were; The Minister for the Armed Forces (Min (AF)) the Right Honourable Adam Ingram MP & Mrs Maureen Ingram, His Excellency (HE) The Governor of the Falkland Islands Mr Alan Huckle, The Right Honourable Liam Fox MP, Commander In Chief Air Command (CINC AC) Air Chief Marshal Sir Clive Loader KCB OBE ADC FRAeS RAF & Lady Alison Loader, The Chaplain Of The Fleet John Green QHC RN and the Commander of the British Forces ( South Atlantic Islands) (CBF) Brigadier Nick Davies MBE MC.
