Preview – 2013 Canadian Grand Prix Full report on www.sauberf1team.com After the start of the European season in Barcelona and Monte Carlo, the +Sauber F1 Team travels to Montréal, where the Canadian Grand Prix will take place from 7th to 9th of June. The team has fond memories of Île Notre-Dame, as this was the place where former drivers Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld claimed a one-two in 2008. After closely missing scoring a point in Monaco, the Sauber F1 Team wants to claim a positive result in Canada. Nico Hülkenberg (car number 11): “The Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve is one of my favourites. It's a challenging track with a mixture of a permanent racetrack and a street circuit. It has some tight sections that don't allow for any mistakes...” Esteban Gutiérrez (car number 12): “So far I have driven once at the track on Île Notre-Dame, and that was in 2007 in Formula BMW. It went quite well with one podium finish and a fourth place. It's a really nice circuit and I like it a lot. The track is slippery and tyre management will yet again be very important, which gives us an opportunity to put a good strategy together...” Tom McCullough, Head of Track Engineering: “The Montréal circuit is very narrow and has walls very close to the track. It typically produces one of the most exciting races of the season and a Safety Car is highly likely. The circuit is comprised of long straights and slow speed corners, which encourage overtaking, and also contribute to it being one of the hardest for the brakes...”

Nico for pole tomorrow ? Pole position is all important in Monaco, and if the practice times so far are anything to go by, Mercedes' Nico Rosberg is clear favourite for the prized P1 grid slot. Should he go on to win, he would become the only second-generation winner in the Principality, following father Keke's victory in 1983. However, the likes of Ferrari and Lotus also looked very comfortable around the Monte Carlo streets on Thursday as decent weather and a steadily improving track enabled all the teams to complete their planned schedules, a brief red-flag stoppage in FP2 because of Romain Grosjean's shunt and damaged kerbing on the entry to the Swimming Pool notwithstanding. We take a team-by-team look at the weekend's early running… Mercedes Nico Rosberg, 1m 16.195s, P1/1m 14.759s, P1 Lewis Hamilton, 1m 16.469s, P5/1m 15.077s, P2 Both drivers were happy with the way their days went, though Hamilton said there was more time to come from him and from improving the balance of his W04. Ferrari Fernando Alonso, 1m 16.282s, P2/1m 15.196s, P3 Felipe Massa, 1m 16.394s, P4/1m 15.278s, P4 Both drivers were very happy with their cars' balance in qualifying and race trim, and said they had zero problems, but Alonso insisted that it was still very hard to gauge the true pecking order for qualifying. Red Bull Mark Webber, 1m 17.020, P7/1m 15.404s, P5 Sebastian Vettel, 1m 17.380s, P10/1m 16.014s, P9 No fireworks from either driver, and a KERS problem prevented Vettel from using the system in the afternoon. But Red Bull's winning form in the previous three Monaco Grands Prix suggests they will be very strong on Saturday. Lotus Kimi Raikkonen, 1m 17.509s, P11/1m 15.511s, P6 Romain Grosjean, 1m 16.380s, P3/1m 15.718s, P7 A good day and a bad day for Lotus. Grosjean was mighty on the soft Pirellis in the morning but shunted on the supersofts in the afternoon. Raikkonen was strong in both sessions, and will be a dark horse in qualifying. McLaren Jenson Button, 1m 17.129s, P8/1m 15.959s, P8 Sergio Perez, 1m 17.378s, P9/1m 16.434s, P12 Button struggled to generate decent tyre temperatures in the morning but said that his long-run times in the afternoon were surprisingly good and that the MP4-28 felt better than it had on previous race weekends and that some previously poor performance areas were better. Perez tried many things in his car's set-up, some of which worked and some of which didn't. The team now have plenty of data to analyse in order to optimise the set-ups for Saturday. Force India Paul di Resta, 1m 17.548s, P12/1m 16.046s, P10 Adrian Sutil, 1m 17.625s, P13/1m 16.349s, P11 Despite a quick spin by Sutil at Ste Devote, Force India had a positive day in which both cars ran without trouble and were reasonably balanced. Sauber Nico Hulkenberg, 1m 18.193s, P14/1m 16.823s, P13 Esteban Gutierrez, 1m 18.754s, P16/1m 16.935s, P15 Sauber reported that new parts were working well, and Hulkenberg said the balance of his car improved as the day progressed. Gutierrez struggled as he spent the sessions reacclimatising to the track on his first visit in an F1 car. Williams Pastor Maldonado, 1m 16.993s, P6/1m 16.857s, P14 Valtteri Bottas, 1m 18.830s, P17/1m 17.264s, P18 Maldonado was in great form in the morning with sixth-fastest time, but said that a slightly different set-up in FP2 was not as successful. Bottas spent his day learning the track and reported high tyre degradation. Toro Rosso Daniel Ricciardo, 1m 19.067s, P18/1m 17.145s, P16 Jean-Eric Vergne, 1m 18.454s, P15/1m 17.184s, P17 Toro Rosso came here with high hopes, but admit that they have plenty of overnight work to do to realise their aspirations after a bruising day left them further back than they had expected. Marussia Jules Bianchi, 1m 19.773s, P21/1m 17.892s, P19 Max Chilton, 1m 20.225s, P22/1m 18.784s, P21 Bianchi was on tremendous form for Marussia in both sessions, and put his MR02 comfortably ahead of both Caterhams in the second. Chilton was happy to complete his full programme without putting a mark on the car on his first acquaintance with the track in an F1 machine. Caterham Charles Pic, 1m 19.438s, P20/1m 18.212s, P20 Giedo van der Garde, 1m 19.203s, P19/1m 19.031s, P22 Caterham had enhanced their Barcelona set-up after an aero test at the UK's Cotswold Airport last week, and Pic was happier because of that and also because he got a decent set-up on his car as the day progressed. Van der Garde was happier in the morning despite slightly damaging a front wing endplate, but lost his good run on the supersofts in the afternoon due to Grosjean's accident and the resultant red flags.

Preview – 2013 Monaco Grand Prix Deutscher Text unten Full report on www.sauberf1team.com The +Sauber F1 Team looks forward to the Monaco Grand Prix. After the upgrades the team took to Barcelona were a step in the right direction, further updates will follow in Monaco... Nico Hülkenberg (car number 11): “...This is a great challenge between me, the car and the track, and I always have a lot of fun driving there. In terms of performance, I'm quite positive. We've seen that the softer tyre compounds suit us quite well, which gives me confidence we'll have a good weekend.” Esteban Gutiérrez (car number 12): “...It's a high down force track with a lot of slow corners, and management of the rear tyres will be crucial. After the positive race in Barcelona, I am focusing on building on my performance there.” Tom McCullough, Head of Track Engineering: “...For Esteban it will be his first experience in a F1 car in Monaco, but his GP2 experience has given him a good reference. This will be the first race of the season where we use both the soft and super-soft tyres. We have some further updated aero parts to add to the package we took to Barcelona...” Was unsere Performance angeht, bin ich recht optimistisch.

Well done, Robin. Qualifying for the Spanish Grand Prix yet again showed how much of a difference a few tenths of a second can make. Sauber F1 Team driver Nico Hülkenberg ended up 15th, just five hundredths of a second slower than P13. Esteban Gutiérrez finished in 16th. On the positive side, the updates the team brought to Barcelona are working as expected. Nico Hülkenberg: Sauber C32-Ferrari (Chassis 01/Ferrari 056) Qualifying: 15th in Q2 (1:22.389 / medium tyres) 3rd practice: 16th (1:23.388 min / medium tyres / 18 laps) “Qualifying went according to plan today. This shows we have reduced the gap in qualifying, but still have to improve more.” Tom McCullough, Head of Track Engineering: “...Tyre management will be key tomorrow in the race. So along with that and the strategy we'll now look at the best way to move ourselves forward from where we are starting.” #F1 #SauberF1Team #SpanishGP www.sauberf1team.com

Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix – Qualifying - Deutscher Text unten Read the full report with all details on www.sauberf1team.com The +Sauber F1 Team experienced a difficult qualifying for the Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix. Despite improving the performance of the C32 in free practice three this morning, the team was not able to make it into Q3. Nico Hülkenberg: Qualifying: 14th in Q2 (1:33.976 / medium tyres) "...I expected we would be starting closer to the top ten. The car felt quite good in the practice session this morning, but then the wind changed and it seemed very sensitive to that... We will fight to achieve the best result possible." Esteban Gutiérrez: Qualifying: 18th in Q1 (1:34.730 min / medium tyres) "...It was a bit of a disadvantage to do the race preparation in free practice three, because I didn't get enough practice on the new tyres on low fuel. However, it was important because the data will help us to prepare the strategy for the race tomorrow." Monisha Kaltenborn, Team Principal: "...Nico was able to improve consistently, but he was unlucky because he ended up less than a tenth of a second behind 12th. It's a challenging situation for the race, but we accept it and we will make the best of it tomorrow." Tom McCullough, Head of Track Engineering: "Due to Esteban's penalty we elected to concentrate on high fuel running in FP3 and approach qualifying in a different way today. We have plenty of new sets of fresh tyres left for him tomorrow, and we are looking at the best way of using them..."

F1 Bahrain Grand Prix - P2 Raikkonen edges Webber in Sakhir - Kimi Raikkonen rose to the top of the timesheets at Sakhir on Friday afternoon, as he set the fastest time of the day for Lotus in 1m 34.154s to beat Mark Webber's Red Bull by 0.030s. Webber, who lapped in 1m 34.184s, was followed by his team mate Sebastian Vettel on 1m 34.282s, and the Ferraris of Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa which sandwiched Paul di Resta's Force India. Alonso posted 1m 34.310s, Di Resta 1m 34.543s and Massa 1m 34.552s. In a session that was cloudier and cooler than this morning's Practice One - the track temperature varied between 39 and 41 degrees Celsius and the ambient between 32 and 33 degrees - Romain Grosjean took seventh with 1m 34.631s in the other Lotus ahead of Nico Rosberg's Mercedes on 1m 34.666s, Adrian Sutil's Force India on 1m 34.932s and Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes on 1m 34.976s. Once again there were few incidents. Hamilton ran wide in Turn One early on, and Sauber's Esteban Gutierrez and Caterham's Charles Pic had a minor altercation in the final corner when each had to make room for the other. Jenson Button was 11th for McLaren on 1m 35.356s from Toro Rosso's Jean-Eric Vergne on 1m 35.506s, team mate Sergio Perez on 1m 35.589s and Daniel Ricciardo in the other STR8 on 1m 35.761s. Sauber continued to struggle, with Nico Hulkenberg 15th on 1m 36.133s from Pastor Maldonado on 1m 36.279s ahead of his Williams team mate Valtteri Bottas on 1m 36.579s and Gutierrez on 1m 36.616s. Pic showed the progress Caterham are making with the revised CT03 on his way to 1m 37.061s for 19th, as Max Chilton just edged out Marussia team mate Jules Bianchi, with 1m 37.313s to 1m 37.363s. Giedo van der Garde brought up the rear in his standard CT03, driven this morning by Heikki Kovalainen, on 1m 37.970s.
