TV Pipeline: Lifetime's "Diva" isn't dead yet By Jay Bobbin Q: Can you tell me if "Drop Dead Diva" was canceled? - Diane DiCarlo, West Seneca, NY A: It was, and now it's not. After Lifetime announced the supposed end of the Brooke Elliott-starring show after four seasons, fans responded quite vocally ... but undoubtedly, just as major a factor was the economic one, since the network and the series' studio, Sony Pictures Television, reached an agreement to continue the show with a lowered budget. While "Diva" typically has started its runs in the summer, no Season 5 premiere date had been confirmed as of this writing. Q: I keep seeing references to Wynonna Judd being the first star eliminated from "Dancing With the Stars." Didn't Dorothy Hamill go first? - Ellen Hayes, Columbus, Ohio A: She did, but the circumstances were different. The figure skating legend wasn't actually booted off the ABC show; she had to withdraw because of a back injury that could have had much more severe and enduring results had she continued. Thus, she was the first celebrity to leave the competition, leaving the necessary quota of remaining stars and erasing the need for a voted elimination that week. However, a week later, country star Judd did become the first person to depart the contest in that way. Her partner was Tony Dovolani, and he'd been in that position before, since he and tennis veteran Martina Navratilova were the first couple voted out two seasons earlier. However, he would come back and win the following "All-Stars" season with partner Melissa Rycroft. Q: Where have I seen the actor who plays the title role in the new NBC show "Hannibal" before? - John Evans, Glen Burnie, Md. A: Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen had a solid career in both film and television in his native country, but he cemented his presence as an international star as card-playing villain Le Chiffre in Daniel Craig's first James Bond movie, "Casino Royale." He has appeared since in such big-budget ventures as "Clash of the Titans" and "The Three Musketeers," but one of his most significant achievements to date was being named best actor at last year's Cannes Film Festival for the Danish drama "The Hunt." Q: I see that a 3-D version of "Jurassic Park" is coming out on home video. Is it exactly the same movie that's in theaters now? - Mike Harris, Milwaukee A: It is, and the disc is available now. Before it was released recently, the 3-D reconfiguring of director Steven Spielberg's massive hit got a jump in theaters by being released there first, as also happened recently with "Top Gun" and its 3-D refitting. To watch it at home in three dimensions, you need to have the proper equipment: a 3-D Blu-ray player, a 3-D-capable television and the special glasses. Q: I've wondered why Robert Vaughn and David McCallum have not reconnected on "NCIS." Any chance of that happening? - Richard Provost, Clearfield, Pa. A: As long as the two actors are around, there's always a chance, though we don't know of any definite plans. We can't believe the thought hasn't crossed the minds of the CBS show's producers, since they have McCallum - alias Illya Kuryakin to Vaughn's Napoleon Solo on the classic spy series "The Man From UNCLE" - on board as Ducky. We only can suggest you keep watching; you never know. Q: Someone told me Richard Dreyfuss was in "The Graduate." I've watched the film a number of times on Turner Classic Movies, and I don't see him. Was I told wrong? - Joe Kelly, Daytona Beach, Fla. A: He's in it so briefly, you literally will miss him if you blink. Toward the end of the movie, Benjamin Braddock (Dustin Hoffman) has one of his several face-offs with the cranky landlord (Norman Fell) of the rooming house where he's staying, having followed the person he loves - Elaine Robinson (Katharine Ross), with whose mother (Anne Bancroft) Benjamin had an affair - back to college. During the confrontation, someone's head pops up behind the Fell character, and that person asks if he should "call the cops." That's Dreyfuss.
