Picasa The Lonely Lodge LEGO Diorama There are a couple of things I really like about his LEGO diorama. The first is the great design for the trees and bushes. Organic material is about the hardest things to model with LEGO since most of the pieces have flat angular shapes. The tree trunk here is excellent. Also though here is the ability to really set a scene and a mood. I really want to know what this place was. Did it burn down? Fall down through age? Who are the people and why are they visiting. http://www.flickr.com/photos/45244184@N04/8627786039/in/photostream

Picasa Cathedral Church of St Paul the Apostle Thank you to everyone who showed their support of me after my April Fool joke yesterday. I was touched by the comments and emails received showing concern for my giving up the photography game, and felt a little guilty about having fooled a few people in the end. All is well though; I'm 2 years in to weekdaily posts and hoping to go strong for another 2 years from here. Though some of my post was true, I'm not in this to get the traffic and views and favourites, but because I enjoy doing it. Comments and shares are very nice, and much appreciated, but not a big part of the plan. Not that I have a plan, really. So, back to normal service as expected. St Paul's Cathedral is my favourite building in London, and I love shooting it from various angles and indeed various rooftops. I dislike two things about it though. 1. I do not like the new spotlights that they have in place, which are far too bright at night time and do not compliment the magnificent dome at all. 2. I have posted so many images of this subject that thinking of new titles for photoblog posts is becoming difficult. In other, yet related, news the nice folks over at Topaz Labs (http://www.topazlabs.com/) have been in touch with a few photobloggers asking them to review their B&W Effects 2 software, of which I'm pleased to say that I am participating. I've used it on a few images now, and this is one such example. I'm still getting used to the software; there are things I really like with it, and a few things that I feel can be improved. You can expect a proper review of it once I get to grips with it more, and also once I return from Beijing. Oh, by the way, I'm going to Beijing.

Picasa One of the things I really like about shooting the sand dunes is when it becomes so dark you can barely see what you're doing. At the same time I love playing with the white balance as it picks up the colors of the late evening light. Pinks, blues, purples, and then it's just fun getting artistic when processing. This is one of those shots where I enjoyed getting creative with the light.

Picasa If you changed settings what might effect your picture quality, the R6 remembers when you turn it off. But it warns you with the few times yellow blinking info that, in this case, two settings are out of the ordinary. Very helpful.

Picasa Your SD card is full but there are still fotos you want to take. Do not worry, remove the SD card, turn the R6 back on and you have 56Mb internal memory in reserve, good for ca. 34 7-mega pixel shots in normal quality. A real lifesaver or better, foto shot saver.

Picasa Welcome to the "BETTER THAN ADVERTISED" show. Ricoh will tell you the Caplio R6 has a closeup from 10mm. As you can see in pic 3 the camera touches the bottle and the lens is not 10mm retracted. How is that for a closeup? Pic 1: I set the step zoom to 50mm and activated manual focus. The lens should be around 2mm from the writing on the bottle. You see clearly how easy you can see if it is in focus. In case you are not sure, press arrow down and the whole screen gets magnified (pic 2). In combination with the BRIGHT, LARGE, HIGH RESOLUTION SCREEN, the FULL SCREEN MAGNIFICATION and just ONE BUTTON to press to focus you have perfect results every time. ... right, why it beats my Canon S2 IS in this discipline you want to know? I need to hold down the manual focus button while with the other hand I focus with the directional buttons. The low resolution tiny 1.8" screen (pic 4) gets magnified a bit in the middle and it is OK for text but I never could make out if my object was sharp
