Will Chelsea's capital one cup success give the motavation to go forward and win the title or will Man City Close the gap despite losing to Liverpool? We are at a vital stage In the season. If Manchester City want to cut the gap I think that yaya Toure and Frank Lampard need to be played in midfield. Also Demichelis will need to be in Defence instead of Magnala. Bony needs to start. Will Man city make a comeback like last season or will chelsea strive aged and win the Title?😃

Statistical analysis: Danny Ings set to give Liverpool FC fans a glimpse of his skills

When Burnley line up at Anfield on Wednesday night, all eyes will be on the man wearing the No.10 shirt for the visitors. Danny Ings is a Clarets hero; the man whose goals fired Sean Dyche’s side to promotion last season, and whose strong form has survived the jump up to the Premier League this term. He’s also the man Brendan Rodgers has identified to come in and strengthen his Liverpool squad this summer. The Reds tried to wrap up a deal for Ings last month, but were unable to. It is expected, though, that they will revisit the situation come the end of the season. Expect to see the England U21 international wearing a red shirt in 2015/16. And so on Wednesday, Liverpool fans have the chance to take a close look at their potential new arrival. Burnley will arrive on Merseyside as big underdogs, but Ings represents their best chance of springing a surprise. Young, English and talented The 22-year-old is one of a clutch of new, English strikers making an impression on the Premier League this season. The likes of Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck and Daniel Sturridge may be well established with the national team, but Ings, along with Harry Kane, Saido Berahino and Charlie Austin, represents the next batch. With nine league goals, and in a side battling relegation too, Ings has certainly done his prospects no harm this season. He may be behind Kane and Austin (14) as well as Berahino (11), but has more assists (4) than any of those three. In fact, he has assisted more Premier League goals than such luminaries as David Silva, Juan Mata, Adam Lallana and Romelu Lukaku. VIEW GALLERY Substance to go with style? His reputation, forged in the lower leagues with Bournemouth and then strengthened at Turf Moor, is that of a quick, nimble finisher, one with a good, solid attitude, whose work rate ensures defences are always kept on their toes. The statistics back that up. Ings’ attacking output is what catches the eye, but he does his share of the dirty work too. He wins a healthy share of his tackles (46%), and completes 55% of his ‘take ons’. With 1.8 dribbles per game, his numbers better those of Kane, Austin and Berahino, as well as Silva, Rooney, Diego Costa and Samir Nasri, among others. He’s not perfect, of course. In fact, he takes the sixth most “unsure touches” in the league, according to Whoscored.com. Panic not, though, for Raheem Sterling is fifth on that particular list, with Alexis Sanchez fourth. Similarly, the fact that is dispossessed, on average, 2.4 times a game, should be measured against the fact that so too is Sergio Aguero. Incidentally Sanchez (3.3) tops that list too, closely followed by Diego Costa, Eden Hazard and David Silva. Football – Burnley v Crystal Palace – Barclays Premier League – Turf Moor – 17/1/15 Burnley’s Danny Ings scoring their second goal Credit: Action Images / Paul Currie Ings’ average of 2.9 shots per game, in a lower-table side, is solid when compared with the league’s top talents. Sergio Aguero (4.3) tops the list in that respect, while in the Liverpool squad, only Mario Balotelli (3.7) shoots more than Ings. And the Italian has only one league goal as reward for those efforts. A shot accuracy of 40% from 66 shots is not especially impressive – Kane’s, for example, is 59% from 67 shots, while Austin’s is 67% from 88 – but an average of 1.2 key passes per game, for a striker, is. Ings, at present, is creating more with his passing than Aguero, Yaya Toure, Robin Van Persie or Ross Barkley, to name just four. A rounded striker? It seems so. A good fit? Will he, though, fit with Liverpool’s system? We have seen with some – Rickie Lambert, for example, not to mention Balotelli – that it is not always easy for a player, especially a forward, to adapt to the Reds’ way of playing under Rodgers. A look back through Ings’ goals over the past two seasons, for example, shows a high proportion come from crosses – especially from the right wing, where full-back Kieran Trippier has been a prolific supply line. But Liverpool, on average, have crossed the ball less than any other Premier League side this season (Burnley sit 10th on that list). Similarly, Ings is used to operating alongside a traditional strike partner – last season it was Sam Vokes, this year Ashley Barnes. Rodgers has shown a willingness to experiment with a 4-4-2 diamond formation in the past, but the success of the 3-4-2-1 system has been clear to see this season. Where a player like Ings would fit into that is less so. The mental aspect Liverpool fans will be looking carefully on Wednesday to see, for example, whether Ings presses the ball, whether he keeps his head up if things go against his side, or whether he goes into his shell on his first visit to Anfield. Those who know him speak of a strong character, of a good attitude to training and self-improvement, of someone with a good relationship with his supporters, and a willingness to do plenty of community and charity work outside of football. Football – Queens Park Rangers v Burnley – Barclays Premier League – Loftus Road – 14/15 – 6/12/14 QPR’s Richard Dunne clashes with Burnley’s Danny Ings Credit: Action Images / Tony O’Brien How, though, would he react to life at a big club? Or to no longer being the main man, no longer a guaranteed starter? Could he handle being a squad player, or an impact sub? How does he cope at a club where two games without a goal means questions can and will be asked? Only time will give us those answers, of course. In the meantime, Liverpool fans will watch with eagerness to see if Ings can continue his upwards trajectory in the Premier League. STATS COMPARISON – ENGLAND’S NEXT GENERATION? It's not exactly clear what went wrong for Manchester City at Liverpool, but something did. Joe Allen outplayed Yaya Touré. It leaves Kompany and his partner exposed, it traps the fullbacks up the pitch, and it leaves huge spaces between the lines of defense and midfield.
What went wrong for Manchester City against Liverpool?
Tactics? Motivation? It's not exactly clear what went wrong for Manchester City at Liverpool, but something did.

MEDIA CITY: As the dust begins to settle on the weekend's fixtures, attention turns to new tales regarding all things City.

Today's headlines are full of transfer speculation and the like, with rumours flying around all over the place.

Let's start with the Metro, who dig up a name who has been linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium for quite a while now: Isco.

According to Lewis Rudd, the champions are still keen to capture the Spanish midfielder's signature - and they are willing to sell Samir Nasri to fund it!

So says Rudd: "The 22-year-old Real Madrid star has been identified by Manuel Pellegrini as the man to compliment Yaya Toure in the City midfield, according to the Daily Express.

"City, though, will have to take in to consideration Financial Fair Play regulations, meaning they will most likely need to sell before they can bring any new names to the Etihad.

"And one player whose future with the club has been plunged into doubt is Nasri, with the former Arsenal man targeted as the player to replace Paul Pogba should he leave Turin in the close season."

Today's reports also claim City are stepping up the chase for Layvin Kurzawa, while talks are to take place regarding the future of Marcos Lopes.

Liverpool 2-1 Manchester City: What the papers say

The coming of age for one, the signs of it catching up with them for the other. Tell me again which one of these was supposed to be heavy-legged, battle weary and there for the taking. Phil Thomas, The Sun For City, questions remain. Manager Manuel Pellegrini still cannot find a way to secure the centre of the field in games such as this. Sky Sports pundits Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher described City’s lack of control in that area as ‘embarrassing’. That may be overstating it but City continue to be undone the same way in too many big games. Last season they got away with it but this time round they may not. Ian Ladyman, Daily Mail Tactically, this was perhaps Reds boss Brendan Rodgers’ finest Anfield moment. In terms of his decisionmaking, he got all the big calls right from midweek to this game. And in doing so, he showed up Pellegrini. Again. He spluttered afterwards City’s title defence is far from over, but really, after his side – or rather he himself – was exposed tactically for the second time in a week, you wonder if they are good enough, or clearthinking enough, to overhaul Chelsea. David Maddock, The Mirror Liverpool 2 Man City 1: Pellegrini must be more flexible, Blues were a touch unlucky and more we learned Liverpool 2 Man City 1: Fans' reaction Pellegrini refuses to accept Man City title fate is sealed Sergio Agüero and David Silva off ered hope in fl ashes for the visitors but with the exception of their stellar talents, City were fresh out of ideas. The recent failure to sign players with the pedigree of Silva, Agüero and Yaya Touré, anonymous here until a late surging run into the Liverpool area, combined with Vincent Kompany’s regression in the heart of defence has added to Pellegrini’s problems in attempting to keep pace with Chelsea. Andy Hunter, The Guardian The importance of victory for Liverpool was superseded only by the damage it inflicted upon City’s title hopes. Once more Manuel Pellegrini left Anfield hoping a rival slips up. Paul Joyce, The Express Dzeko holds off Henderson at Anfield City were meek in midfield, a study in uncertainty at the back and – for the second time in a week – not especially well led from the touchline. Chris Bascombe, The Telegraph One of City’s weaknesses when defending their title is that Kompany and Pablo Zabaleta, the cornerstones of a defence that won two championships, have endured indifferent seasons. Kompany in particular seemed very out of sorts here, getting nowhere near Sterling and committing far too many fouls for a footballer of his quality. Even after Dzeko equalised, City never seemed comfortable. Late last season, they came to Anfield and lost what seemed a critical game, one that looked to have cost them the title. The stories of their two Premier League titles are tales of remarkable recoveries but this is unlikely to be the third. Tim Rich, The Independent Recent history tells us that City can recover from the kind of setback that Liverpool inflicted upon them yesterday.
