SUPER LONG POST, APOLOGIES

Why Duncan is better and greater than Kevin Garnett

I've seen alot of KG>Duncan posts so I've decided to employ my copy and paste powers and prove why Duncan is better and greater than Kevin Garnett.

1. Scoring

Duncan is a superior scorer to Garnett, no matter how you look at it.

A. Prime for prime
First of all, establishing their respective primes is subjective; why did you choose 2000-2007? Because it fits your argument? Both players were all stars in 1998, why not choose that season? Duncan won Finals MVP in 1999, and was hailed by Phil Collins and Bob Costas as “The best player in the league”. So we can and should include those years as well.

Aside from that, Garnett played in faster paced offenses than Duncan did. So this allows for more possessions. It wasn’t until 2012 (really 2013) that the Spurs became a fast paced team. This only lasted for a few years. Otherwise, From 1998-2011 the Spurs were a slow, grind it out team. Garnett also played on slow teams but still had more possessions than Duncan.

B. Points Per 100 possessions

A more fitting stat to compare the two. There are numerous players that scored insane numbers in the 80’s, but we wouldn’t call Dantley a better scorer than Kobe, would we? Absolutely not. That said, Garnett got to play more possessions. Even aside from the possession argument, KG fans love to bring up that KG was all alone on his teams whereas Duncan had “stacked” teams. We will explore this claim in further detail later in the discussion. For now, if KG truly played with nobodies, he should have some insane stats. Look at Demarcus Cousins for instance. He averaged 27 ppg last season, but he plays on a lousy team where he is free to put up insane numbers. So KG’s scoring should be way higher right? We will see:

PPG (not PP 100) from 2000-2007:

TD: 21.9
KG: 22.5

Only a 0.6 difference despite Duncan supposedly playing on much more stacked teams and KG having to score “all their points”. But, let’s look at the numbers per 100 possessions during this time:

TD: 31.6
KG: 30.1

So despite Duncan supposedly having a cast full of scorers and KG having nobody and having a bigger scoring responsibility, Duncan scores more efficiently and effectively. Part of this has to do with his ability to get to the foul line better. Let’s look at their respective Free throw Rates during this time:
TD: .469
KG: .394

So Duncan was drawing fouls at a much better rate. Even if he couldn’t shoot FT’s as well as KG, he was getting to the line more, so the fact that KG has a better FT% is negated by the fact that Duncan was better at drawing fouls in the first place. Would you rather have a guy who shoots 90% from the line but goes to the line 10 times a game, or a guy who shoots 80% but goes to the line 15 times a game?

Another reason Duncan was a better scorer was because he was better at relying less on teammates for his points. Yes, you read that right. As you pointed out, KG shot from longer distances (though not as big a difference as you think- it’s 11 ft to 8ft). KG’s shot was the catch and shoot. Did he have post moves? Absolutely, but he operated much less in the post then he could have. Working in the post involves out-muscling your opponent- KG would rather pass. This led to more instances in the playoffs in which he shot in the 45-49% range in important games. Whereas Duncan on the other hand has many more instances shooting in the 50-55% range in important games in series. And I’m not just talking elimination games. Now it is true that KG had better handles than Duncan- but he didn’t dribble around his defender and create his own shot as much as he could have. To support my argument is the Assisted on % stat. Let’s take a look at it during the 2001-2007 seasons (This stat wasn’t available in the 2000 season, not that it would have made a difference):

TD: .494
KG: .627

That is a HUGE difference. In short, Duncan was much less reliant on his teammates to create his shot, AND he drew fouls much more. Addtionally, Duncan was scoring more points per possession anyway, and shot more efficiently from the field. True, his shots were closer to the basket, but that doesn’t take away from the facts. It’s kinda like this: would you rather have Shaq with the ball taking his short shots, or would you rather have David Robinson with the ball, taking longer shots? Robinson is one of my favorite players ever, but he wasn’t the scorer Shaq was. The same is true here. The only argument a KG proponent has in this instance is that he scored more PPG, but when you look at the context, that is irrelevant.

One of the main arguments KG proponents make is that he didn’t have the teams Duncan has, and if you switched places their careers would be drastically different. Well, let’s say this happened. In short, Duncan would have been less reliant on his weak cast in the first place, and would have been asked to do more, so his numbers would be sky high, while drawing more fouls. KG on the other hand would have similar scoring numbers as Duncan did with the Spurs.

Keep in mind, this is only the regular season, we have barely touched on the playoffs. Let’s look at their playoff scoring numbers between the 1998-2004 seasons for KG (since those are the closest years to your pre-selected 2000-2007 years) and 1998-2005 numbers for Duncan (since he missed the 2000 playoffs). Keep in mind that 6 of KG’s playoff runs during this time was in the first round, and in 5 of those instances he did not face the eventual champs, so his numbers should be very good (I.e. look at Chris Paul’s playoff numbers):

TD: 23.8
KG: 21.8

This is not points per 100 possessions, this is points per game, as basic a stat as you can find. Despite KG playing in the first round and again supposedly playing on “vastly” inferior teams, Duncan actually outscores him in points per game. So while Duncan’s scoring increases in the playoffs, KG’s decreases. And if you look at the per possession numbers (Points per 100 possessions) The disparity is even bigger:

Points per 100 possessions:
TD: 31.7
KG: 27.9

Looking at Peaks briefly:

Most PPG in a season
TD: 25.5
KG: 24.2

Most PPG in a playoff run:
TD: 27.6 through 2 rounds in 2002
KG: 27.0 through 6 games in the first round of 2003

Most PPG in a single playoff series:
TD: 32.3 vs. DAL, 2006 WCSF
KG: 27.0 vs. LAL, 2003 1st

And even if you want to argue that the 03 Lakers were better than the 06 Mavs, Duncan put up 29.0 ppg against the 2002 Lakers, who would win their 3rd championship that year, and did it while locking down Shaq (We’ll get to that later).

And we’ve already visited their per 100 possession numbers, so it would be redundant to mention it here, as we already know Duncan has him beat.

Plus Duncan carried his team in a better way in pivotal moments than KG did in the playoffs. Even if you want to say that it is not fair to compare playoff numbers because KG didn’t get the same opportunities Duncan did, the regular season scoring numbers still favor Duncan.

2. Rim protection

Tim Duncan is better than Kevin Garnett at protecting the rim. That’s a fact, and I don’t see any kind of a case favoring KG if we’re taking about rim protection and only rim protection.
Most Blocks in a season:
TD: 237
KG: 178

Most BPG in a season:
TD: 2.9 (2003)
KG: 2.2 (2004)
Ironically enough, KG’s best Shot-blocking season is the same as Duncan’s career average.

Most BPG in a playoff run:
TD: 4.3 (2002)
KG: 2.4 (1998)

KG’s best shot-blocking playoff run was through 3 games in 1998, 2 years before the league loosened their defensive rules.

Just like with scoring, Duncan beats him in per 100 possession numbers

Most Blocks per 100 possessions in a season:
TD: 4.5
KG: 3.0

Most BP 100 in a Playoff run:
TD: 5.7
KG: 3.4

Most BPG in a playoff series:
Duncan: 5.8 (Seattle, 2002)
KG: 3.2 (New York, 2013)

Shot blocking records:
TD: 3 (7 if you count his records compared to other PF’s)
KG: 0

TD’s records:
1. Most blocks per game in a Finals series
2. Most blocks in a Finals series
The two are different, as before 2003 Kareem owned the record for highest BPG in a finals in the 1980 Finals (4.6) and Ewing owned the record for most total blocks in a Finals\
3. Most playoff blocks by a player for their career-
4. Most career blocks for a PF-
5. Highest BPG by a PF in a Finals (2003 Finals)-
6. Highest total blocks by a PF in a Finals (2003 Finals)
7. Highest BPG by a PF in a playoff series (2002 1st round vs. Seattle)-

Duncan was also one of the best at altering shots in history, anyone who has watched the great shot blockers will tell you as much.-

Regarding your point about KG being asked to protect the rim during his DPOY season, he averaged as many BPG as Duncan did in his worst season in BPG, which was this past year in the 2016 season with Duncan at age 39. And even if you want to debate DPOY, Duncan deserved it in 2004, 2007, and 2013, but of course wasn’t going to get it being humble and deflecting the credit from himself.-

-3. Post defense

Another area that I don’t see how KG could be better at. There’s a few ways we could look at this:

-A. 1-on-1 defense (individual defense)
-B. Help defense
-C. Rim protection
-D. Defensive Rebounding

A. When it comes to 1-on-1 defense, Duncan definitely schools Garnett here. Also, I think one on one defense in the post is more important than the other aspects of post defense. Here’s a look at Duncan’s elite defense against other elite post players/big men:

Was the main defender on Shaq when he scored 21.4 ppg on 44.7% shooting in their 2002 playoff matchup after scoring 27.2 ppg on 57.9% shooting during the regular season.
Shaq never shot below 55% in a season, yet shot well below this when guarded by Duncan. I wasn’t able to find Game 4 of this series except for makes. From the 4 other games I watched and Shaq’s makes on Duncan in Game 4, Duncan locked down Shaq to 18-46 (39.2%) shooting. Shaq was 24-48 (50%) against All other defenders. Duncan probably guarded him on other shots in Game 4, and I only have Shaq’s makes. It’s possible Shaq shot worse than 39.2%, but as it stands that percentage is atrocious for any player of any position, and the fact that Duncan did that while in his prime is astounding. KG never locked down a top ten player like this in any instance.

-Held Martin to 14.3 ppg on 34.3% shooting in 03 Finals after averaging 21 ppg on 50% shooting in the previous 4 playoff rounds.

-Main defender on Gasol in 08 WCF and held him to 13.2 ppg on 44.6% shooting after averaging 18.8 ppg on 58.9% shooting with the Lakers.

-Shut down Chris Bosh in Game 7 of the 2013 Finals to 0/5 shooting and made him a non-factor, yet people only focus on Duncan’s missed shot.

-Outscored 3x DPOY Dwight Howard despite Howard being their #1 option on a Lakers team with no Kobe

-This isn’t post defense, but Duncan showed his versatility on individual defense when he held Nash to 1-6 shooting when guarding him in the closeout game of the 2005 WCF

The list of defenders who locked down this many elite scorers and made them drop double digits from their shooting percentage is very slim. And KG never did this to the extent Duncan did in either the regular season or playoffs.

B. Help defense

In the post, Duncan was one of the best post help-defenders in the history of the league. Playing next to Robinson, Duncan would frustrate other post players as he would come over and limit their options. KG was great at this too, but as aforementioned KG was on the perimeter more. To me, Duncan’s sheer amount of volume in the post and it always being solid gives him the edge here. I give the perimeter edge to KG. But post help-defense? It’s Duncan. As aforementioned he was an elite individual defender and an elite rim protector, so when his help came, the others were doomed. Duncan and Robinson had the game-saving defensive play when they stopped Spreewell in the post of the closing seconds of Game 5 of the 1999 Finals.

C. Rim protection

It goes without saying that when a defender (especially a big) is in the post, he will be asked to protect the rim, even if he has a tough matchup down low. As already established, Duncan was a superior Shot blocker to KG and a better individual defender. So him having to leave his man to protect the rim when needed wasn’t too tall of a task. If you are using athleticism as a main point, remember that past their primes Duncan was a better defender, and used his skill (not athleticism), while once KG’s athleticism faded he was nowhere near Duncan’s level. If your main argument is that KG didn’t protect the rim as much but when he did he won DPOY, it’s a weak one. Again, KG’s BPG that season is the same amount of BPG Duncan had in his Final year. KG did other things better than Duncan, but not protect the rim. As aforementioned Duncan should have definitely won it in 2007, and has a good case for 2004 and 2013. Outside of 2008, I don’t see how KG has a case for any season. Duncan’s defense was better than KG’s in KG’s MVP season (KG was admittedly better at everything else though).

D. Rebounding

A small bonus of good post defense is rebounding, and I’m including this to help KG’s case more. Let’s look at their defensive rebounding numbers from 2000-2007:

DRPG:
TD: 8.8
KG: 9.9

DR Per 100
TD: 12.7
KG: 13.3

TD’s defensive rebounding was not far off from KG’s when you look at it during their primes.

In sum, Duncan was the superior individual defender in the post, a better shot blocker, a better rim protector overall, and a more efficient help defender in the post. KG was better at getting rebounds in the post on defense, but the other categories combined are of much higher importance than just rebounding.

4. Passing

Now, I believe that for their careers and in their primes KG was the better passer, but it’s not as far off as you might think. Also, when the two players were at their absolute bests (2003 and 2004), Duncan had him beat in every main statistical category except steals (Points, Rebounds, Assists, and Blocks). Most would agree that Duncan was at his best in 2003. For Garnett, I believe his best season to be 2004. It was his only MVP season and he led Minnesota to its only Conference Finals appearance. He posted career highs in Points per game, RPG, and BPG. He also posted career highs in a few advanced categories. When they were at their best and when it mattered, Duncan averaged 5.3 assists during the 2003 playoff run while KG had 5.1 assists during his. For their careers, KG was better, and the same is true for their primes. But Duncan showed that when needed to, he could be just as dynamic a playmaker as KG was.

5. Pick and Roll defense
KG was the better P’n’R defender, but it was close. Duncan was absolutely great at getting back to his man after defending up top. I encourage you to watch Game 1 of the 2007 NBA Finals, and at 31 and exiting his prime, Duncan was a great P’n’R defender against LeBron and company. People also forget that Duncan ran the pick and roll well with Tony Parker from 2003/4-2008/9, so he knew how to defend it since he was doing it well on the other end. Additionally, Duncan was able to defend in general better for longer because of his skill, whereas KG was much more reliant on athleticism than Duncan ever was. KG was a little better here, but less than what most people think.

6. Carrying the load

KG has seven seasons leading his team in 4/5 categories or better, whereas Duncan has zero. However, when Duncan needed too, he put that load on him and made it work. For one:

-Only Jordan had teammates score less points in a Finals than Duncan’s did in 1999. Duncan carried them to the title despite poor play, especially game 5 when his teammates shot a combined 15-45, yet Duncan carried them to victory.

I’m going to mention category dominance in some of my next points, as I already did with KG.

-Duncan led the Spurs in all 5 categories against the most dominant playoff team in history (2001 Lakers. I’m not saying they were the best team in history but they own the record for winning% in a championship run). He had to do it all in this series, and defended Shaq well when he was on him and provided solid help defense. On plays where Duncan was the lone defender on Shaq or plays in which he either provided help defense or had a help defender, Duncan held Shaq to 11/24 (45.8% shooting). Now true, Shaq was one shot away from shooting 50%, but he never shot below 55% in a season, so even that would have been low by Shaq’s standards. The fact stands, Duncan held him nearly 10% below his worst shooting season when he guarded him, and guarded him for just under 30% of his shots, which is a pretty good chunk. In all other instances in which Duncan was not around to contest Shaq’s shots, Shaq was 35/61 from the field, good for 57.4% shooting, but shot 45.8% with Duncan around. Additionally, Duncan was the focus of the other teams defense and the Spurs’ #1 option, led them in rebounds, playmaking, and averaged 1.3 SPG and 4.3 BPG. Now that’s a heavy load.

-Against the Supersonics in the 02 playoffs, Duncan led the Spurs to a 2-1 lead, but Duncan was injured and missed Game 4. The Spurs would lose this game, then win Game 5. Duncan put up 25-11-5 with an absurd 6 blocks per game.

-Then in the 02 series vs. the Lakers, there was no Robinson for 2 games and was ineffective in the 3 games he played in the series. Duncan guarded Shaq and we all know what happened: He hindered him to an at best 39.2% shooting, while being the main defender. Shaq shot 50% at worst against all other opponents. Being exhausted after guarding Shaq, Duncan’s efficiency slipped, shooting 42.5% from the field. However, he made up for his bad shooting by having an outstanding Free Throw Rate of .549, shooting 77.4% from the line. So he was efficient overall since he was able to get to the line, so his poor FG% is canceled out by that. Apart from that, he averaged 29-17-5-1-3, while his teammates combined only grabbed 23 boards a game. It’s really speaks volumes as to how heavy of a load Duncan had to carry in this series that he almost grabbed as many rebounds as the rest of his teammates did. He scored or assisted on over 40% of his teams points, grabbed 43% of his teams rebounds, and limited Shaq to below 40% shooting when guarding him. This is a load KG never carried in the playoffs.

-Duncan led the Spurs in 4/5 categories in three straight postseasons, 2001-2003. So this shows that when needed to, he could carry that heavy load like KG did.

-In Duncan’s 2003 championship run, he led a weaker cast to a championship than KG ever led to the Finals. Now, you might say that maybe this isn’t fair to KG, since he had weaker teams. But, this shows if nothing else that Duncan did carry a heavy load, and if he had to switch with KG he would have done the same.

From 2004-2008, Duncan didn’t have to do as much playmaking, but still was the Spurs #1 option, best defender, and best rebounder by a mile. But if he needed to be a playmaker, he could. Ultimately, Duncan did not carry quite as heavy as a load as KG. But there is nothing to suggest he couldn't have if needed to. As it is, he carried a weak load at times to places that the casts he had usually don’t go to.

What If Kawhi Leonard Was Never Traded?

As requested by people, I shall do a few more what ifs? Just doing a short and simple what if before doing +TheVoice "What if Shaq and Kobe got along" What if that shall be coming soon. But with that out of the way.

Kawhi Leonard is one of the best players in the NBA, also transcending from a great defender to a Superstar in the league. Kawhi got it all, a great defender, a calm influence on the locker room, an efficient 20 - 25 Points per game scorer. Who has the potential to be the greatest perimeter defender of all time and the greatest defensive player of all time. But what if we could back to the 2011 NBA draft and smack some sense to the Pacers to keep Kawhi. How would he change as a player and the league change overall? Well lets find out.

Changes Around The League

2011 - 2012 Season:
- Taking a look at the 2011 - 2012 Pacers, they had a line- up of Darren Collison a speedy PG at the time. Who'd give the Pacers 13 and 5 a game, Paul George is slide into the starting SG spot for the Pacers as Danny Granger was the Pacers SF at the time. Averaging 19-20 Points per game. As for Kawhi Leonard coming off the bench, the Pacer realise real quick they may of found a real gem in the draft. As the second he steps foot onto the court he is a pure great defender. And with a defensive minded coach in Frank Vogel he fit right in with the Pacers system. Becoming there 6th man just 15 games into the season. He actually surprising has a better rookie season than he did in real life averaging 9 Pts, 5 Rebounds of 45% FG and 35% 3PT shooting. They have the same record at 42-24 (lockout season). Pushing the Miami Heat big 3 to 7 games in the 2nd round and this series is were Kawhi came into his own as Granger was injured for the series. And Kawhi averaged 15 Points, 8 Rebounds, 4 Steals on 50% FG for the series. While having a few defensive moments on LeBron, to wear people and LeBron included started to take notice. The Heat still advance to the NBA finals in 2012, while in the Western Conference Finals George Hill and the Spurs are facing the OKC Thunder. But the Thunder still advance in 6 to the NBA Finals then get eliminated in 5 and LeBron wins his first NBA Championship.

2012 - 2013:
- Due to the Pacers record not changing the 2012 Draft stays the exact same. As we move onto the 2012 - 2013 Season Danny Granger would only play in 5 games because of Knee injuries which would end his Career as a whole. So both Paul George and Kawhi Leonard are both slotted into the starting line- up. And they both take an up tick in there game PG improves to 17.7 Point Per Game as he replaces the scoring that Granger had left behind. And Kawhi Leonard stats improve to 13 Points, 6 Rebounds while being one of the most efficient players in the league. As well as defender, (if not the best defender in the NBA). And you combine that with Frank Vogel's defsnive system and Roy Hibbert use to be one of the best rebounder's and defensive players at the time. With the Pacers finding another hidden gem in Lance Stephenson a ball handler off the bench. The Pacers win a total 51 Games, while again pushing the Heat to 7 games this time in the ECF. But the Heat just too good and advance to the NBA Finals yet again,.

As for the West the Spurs fall from 58 wins down to 52. As without Kawhi they become a middle of the pack Western Conference team without him, but fortunately in round 2 of the playoffs they faced the Thunder without Russel Westbrook. As Patrick Beverly injured Westbrook because he's dirty as shit. And as they defeat the Thunder in 5 games we see are first Spurs vs Heat NBA Finals. And Maimai originally won this series in 7 games with Kawhi and they still win this time in 6 games without him.

2013 - 2014 Season:
- Now in the 2013 Draft is were we start to finally see some changes as the Spurs due to not being as good fall to having the 25th pick in the Draft and because they want a C or SF. They select Rudy Gobert out of France and in the 2nd round hit gold again as with the 31st pick selecting Allen Crabbe. So the Spurs are able to fill in the hole of Kawhi with Rudy Gobert and Allen Crabbe. And for those wondering they the 27th now no longer belongs to Denver but the Wolves who select Tim Hardaway, Jr. And as we move onto the 2013 - 2013 NBA Season, starting with the Pacers. They start the Season hot 20-4 at the start of the NBA Season, due to there toughness on defence, both Kawhi and George were named all stars. While putting up some historic numbers as in the first 44 Games they held their opponents to 79.9 Points per game. Also PG13 is scoring 22 Points per game with Kawhi averaging 16.5. And you combing that with Darren Collison averaging 14 Points and 7 Asts with there strong inside present with Roy Hibbert. The Pacers look dangerously scaring especially in a game were the held the Heat to 69 Points in a 107 - 69 blow out win with LeBron, Wade and Bosh all playing. But after the all star break, everything went down hill for the Pacers due to off court issues. Which you could search up online if you really want too. Along with Roy Hibbert going from a defensive monster to a potato on the defensive, offensive and rebounding wise. Averaging 7 Points, 6 Rebs after the all star break. And the once Favorited Pacers to win the ECF title and possibly the NBA Championship. Is kinda silenced but they still win 56 games and are 1st in the East. Also while yes they made it to the ECF vs the Heat they weren't the same team at the first half of the season. Losing in 5 games, and as for the West the Spurs and Thunder again match up in the 2nd round. But Westbrook is there and Rudy Gobert and Allen Crabbe, aren't really enough as the Thunder defeat the Spurs in 7 Games.

Then facing the Clippers in the WCF but, the Thunder again win in 6 Games. To then go onto the NBA Finals vs the Heat. A year postponed and as for this series both Bosh and Wade were riddled with Injuries this season and in the NBA Finals especially. And for that the Thunder in the NBA Championship in 6 games. Which means KD wins and MVP and NBA Championship in the same season.

2014 - 2015 Season:
As for the draft there a some changes, the Kings with no PG with Collison select Elfrid Payton. And the 76ers then select Zach Lavine then trading him to the Magic. And the Wolves selected Nik Stauskas which at this point seems like a downgrade. But in the steal of the Draft the Spurs who have the 44th overall pick select Jordan Clarkson as they are moulding Crabbe into a SF. And need a back- up PG/SG. Now the Spurs who missed out on Kawhi have a decent young core of Clarkson, Gobert and Crabbe. This season PG goes down with a leg injury and is out for the season with a leg injury which means. It's Kawhi time he averaged 20.3 Points while making the All NBA 3rd team leading the Pacers to a 42 - 40 record good enough for 7th in the East. But were eliminated in 6 games to the Chicago Bulls. As for the Spurs they actually get 55 Wins again as Gobert has an awesome season averaging 11 and 11. And Crabbe averaged 10.3 Points as there starting SF with 13 Points off the bench from Clarkson. But in real life the Spurs were eliminated by the Clippers in 7 Games, BUT. With an elite front court of Gobert and Duncan. And an upgraded bench, the Spurs actually defeat the Clippers in 6 games. Then defeat the Rockets in 6. Then facing the MVP in Curry and the Warriors and pushed them to 7 Games in the WCF. But due to Curry scoring 40 Points in game 7 the Warriors advance to the NBA Finals vs the Cavs. Were they again with no Kyrie or Love, LeBron tries to carry the Cavs to an NBA Championship but falls to Golden State in 6 games.

2015 - 2016 Season:
- Remember how Kawhi carried the Pacers into the playoffs as an 7th seed. Well the Nets who originally made the playoffs now miss it and drop to the lottery. but because they don't have there 2015 draft pick because of a trade they did with Joe Johnson and the Hawks. The Hawks get the Nets pick which ends up being the 11th pick in the draft. The Hawks end up selecting Devin Booker with the 11th pick, the Jazz with the 12th pick get Myles Turner remember now without Gobert they need a Center and now get one. With Trey Lyles going to the Suns. Now onto the 2015 free agency LA, LaMarcus Aldridge. Was one of the big signings for the Spurs last season. But now with Gobert they no longer need him. Which means LaMarcus Aldridge signs with the Suns. Yeah he signed with the Suns which was his 2nd choice with the Blazers being his 3rd. So shout out to +Alex Fon I guess. But because the Suns need to make some moves to clear the salary they traded. Away Marcus Morris to the Pistons, but in this situation the Pacers are in buy now mode. As the Pacers beat the Pistons to the punch as the Pacers get Marcus Morris. Also the Pacers ended up with the 17th overall pick but traded it away for a center and got Gorgui Dieng form the Wolves. Giving the Pacers a front- court of Marcus Morris and Gorgui Dieng. Also if you curious the Wolves selected Bobby Portis with this pick. Now for the rest of free agency the Pacers now never sign Monta Ellis, who ends up signing with the Hawks as they have no idea how good Booker is. Which means the Hawks end up trading Korever to the Cavs for a 2016 1st round pick and Jordan Mcrae.

Now onto the actually NBA season, with the return of PG13. The Pacers are pumped with a new energy as Kawhi averages 21.1 Pts and George averages a career high 23.1 Points. The Pacers end up finishing with 55 Wins good enough or 3rd in the East behind the Raptors and Cavs. They beat the Hornets in 6 games, then move onto face the Raptors in the 2nd round. And the Pacers nearly defeated them with just PG13 they beat the Raptors in 7 Games. To advance to a ECF vs LeBron and the Cavaliers. And at the time the series was tied 2-2 with the Pacers up 72 - 59 in the 3rd quarter in game 5. but as we know this team defeat the 73 win Warriors they beat the Pacers making a comeback in that game to win 101 - 95 and win in 7 games. As for the West the Suns only win 45 Games as while LA averages 22 and 10 on the season. His backckourt in Knight and Bledsoe misses a lot of games.Which ended up changing the draft lottery a lot. But back to the NBA Finals were the Cavs and Warriors face again and the same stuff happens the Cavs defeat the Warriors in 7 games, after the Warriors held a 3-1 lead which lead to an avalanche of Meme's that need to stop really.

2016 - 2017 Season:
- Due to the Suns having a winning record and making the playoffs everyone from 4 - 31 moves up one spot. With the 5th overall pick the Pelicans take Dragon Bender as Asik is ASS and there interested in what he can become. Then the Kings select Buddy Heild and keep there pick this time. Giving them a nice young back- court of Payton and Heild. With the Raptors drafting Marquese Chriss to hopefully be the missing peace of the puzzle for the Raptors to beat the Cavs or Pacers and advance to the Finals. Moving onto free agency the Pacers look to make another splash and do as Al Horford who originally signed with the Celtics. But he see's the Pacers as the better option and so Horford signs with the Pacers. Now the Pacers have a line- up of Darren Collison, Paul George, Kawhi, Marcus Morris and Al Horford. Now this is a team that can compete for sure with the Cavs. But were not done just yet the Hawks still want to trade away Jeff Teague and do, trading away Teague to the 76ers for Okafor.

And as are journey comes to an end, the Pacers have developed a team that surely can compete with the Cavaliers. And a line- up with Kawhi, George, Marcus Morris and Horford is just a scary defensive lien up. But as are journey ends I want to know would this Pacers team ever win an NBA Championship? Or are the Cavs and Warriors to good to be beaten?

Championship Changes
2011 - 2012: Heat
2012 - 2013: Heat
2013 - 2014: Thunder
2014 - 2015: Warriors
2015 - 2016: Cavaliers
