Lucas Silva: "I must confess that I got nervous when I stepped on the pitch"
After confirming that he will wear number 16 for Real Madrid, Lucas Silva spoke to the press at the Santiago Bernabéu and shared some thoughts about his new club.

I was in front of all the trophies and I want to win every title available. There were other clubs involved in my potential move away from Cruzeiro but I wanted to join Real Madrid and thankfully that's what happened.

Silva described his attributes as a player.

I have technique but I also like to hold my position to give my team a good balance in the midfield.

Real's new signing also spoke about his feelings when meeting Florentino Pérez and wearing Real Madrid's shirt for the first time.

This is the first time I spoke to him, he welcomed me well and I got a strong sense of trust from the beginning, I now need to give my best on the pitch. It was a great feeling to wear Real's shirt, I must confess that I got nervous when I first stepped on the pitch with the fans and the press. I could feel the atmosphere and I'm ready to play as soon as possible.

Silva hasn't featured in a match for 50 days or so, but he feels ready to go.

I feel ready, maybe at 80% of my capabilities, I will train with the squad today and I want to do my best to adapt to this new club at be at the coach's disposal. Being a starter is one of my goals, but I need to take things step by step, one step at a time. I will try to find my place in this team, we don't know when this will happen. I still have to see what I need to adjust and change to adapt to European football, but I believe that my game will adapt properly.

When asked about his position as a Defensive midfielder, Silva spoke about Toni Kroos.

It will be a big pleasure to play alongside these big players, I've been watching Toni Kroos' play lately and it will be an honor to be his teammate and maybe play with him as well.

Emilio Butragueño was asked about why Real Madrid had the need to sign Silva now, and his answer was very clear.

This was a good chance for us. He think he will help us a lot now, and that's why we signed him.

La Liga: Córdoba vs Real Madrid, Player Ratings

Bale and Varane shine on opposite ends of the field as Madrid pull three points out of thin air.
Iker Casillas: 7. Only four shots made their way to Iker, but he was decisive on all 16 of Córdoba’s crosses. Iker even guessed correctly on the penalty but couldn’t quite get to the ball.
Marcelo: 3. Marcelo looked unlike his usual self on both ends. He only recorded one tackle (Gareth Bale had more than that), and wasted countless chances going forward. Lackadaisical passing and poor defensive discipline made for a pretty dreadful performance from the Brazilian.
Sergio Ramos: 3. “And Sergio Ramos is booked” is on its way to becoming an ancient Spanish proverb, and he made haste in putting Real Madrid in a hole with a careless handball. After that he played better, but was hardly the defensive force we know him to be, recording only one tackle and two clearances.
Raphaël Varane: 8. Varane makes the incredible look effortless, and today he shadowed the shortcomings of Ramos and Marcelo. Rapha led the squad in clearances and blocked shots, all without conceding a foul.
Dani Carvajal: 7. On top of a team-high six tackles, Carvajal also put in plenty of useful crosses in Córdoba’s third. A good, not great performance from Carvajal.
Sami Khedira: 5. A predictable performance from a player who’s played as little as Khedira has. He wasn’t the inventive, creative force Isco is, but Sami was decisive in his passing and prevented Córdoba from breaking through the midfield often.
Toni Kroos: 7. By his standards, it was a forgettable match, but Kroos still led the team in passes completed, passing percentage, and touches. He wasn’t his dominant self, but still a calming presence in the midfield.
James Rodriguéz: 7. It seems lately James has been the target of many hard fouls, and he certainly took a beating against Córdoba. Regardless, he consistently moved well off the ball, and his 10 crosses led the team. Akin to Carvajal, it was a solid but not outstanding game from James.
Cristiano Ronaldo: 2. Ronaldo probably hasn’t played a match this poor since he was a teenager. We’ll never know what Cartabia did or said to provoke his red card aggression, but it was uncharacteristic and would cost the team points on other days. Despite that, he took half as many shots (3) as his season average, and for the first time in 16 league matches, he failed to record a point. He is human after all.
Karim Benzema: 7. Benzema was the only player to record multiple shots on target and gave Córdoba’s center backs fits all day. He finally found the net after six goalless matches, and his equalizer proved massive.
Gareth Bale: 8. Real Madrid were certainly Baled out today (I’m sorry). Bale both earned the penalty and finished it off, and his headed flick onto Benzema made his goal possible. Bale’s certainly played better matches, but he was colossal when needed most, and Madrid would’ve dropped three points if not for Bale.
Jesé: –. Only four minutes were insufficient to grade Jesé.
Fábio Coentrão: 7. Coentrão was three times more effective than Marcelo in a third of the minutes played.
Asier Illarramendi: 6. Similar to Khedira, he was in a very difficult position to thrive, especially with limited minutes. Illarra completed all 20 of his passes, and did his job on the defensive end as well.
Man of the Match: Gareth Bale

Real have signed a 'diamond' in Silva, says Oliveira | FourFourTwo
Silva completed his move from Cruzeiro to Real for a reported fee of around €14million on Friday. Spanish giants Real apparently beat off strong competition to land the 21-year-old midfielder, who is expected to be used as an understudy to Germany star Toni Kroos at the Santiago Bernabeu. But Oliveira has tipped Brazil Under-21 international Silva to shine in Madrid, and challenge for a spot in Ancelotti's first team sooner rather than later.

The Spanish league hit its midway mark last weekend as all the teams except Real Madrid and Sevilla have now played nineteen games each. It was a typical week in La Liga as Leo Messi scored a hat-trick and Cristiano Ronaldo scored a brace.

La Liga’s top three recorded comfortable wins over the weekend. The European champions, Real Madrid, visited Getafe in the hunt for three more points. Real weren’t happy with their goalless first half at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez. Toni Kroos came quite close to scoring just before the break as he rattled the crossbar. Two goals from the 2014 Ballon d’Or winner, Cristiano Ronaldo, and one from the Welshman, Gareth Bale, ensured a comfortable victory for Carlo Ancelotti’s men. The Portuguese skipper has taken his season tally to a whopping 36 goals now.

Real are currently at the summit of the league table with a game in hand. The ten-time European champions haven’t drawn a game in the league yet as they have recorded 15 wins and 3 losses in 18 matches. The Galacticos are closely followed by Barcelona in the league table.

The Blaugrana giants faced Depotivo La Coruna on Sunday and it was totally dominated by the little Argentine legend. After his fourth hat-trick this season, Lionel Messi has scored a total of 28 goals in just 26 games. In all competitions, Leo has averaged a little above a goal per game. The Catalonian giants won 0 – 4 as Messi scored three and an own goal by Sidnei in the 82nd minute sealed three points for Luis Enrique’s side. The Barca ace’s first goal came in the 10th minute as he scored with a sublime header. His second was a great team goal, which was finished by Messi in some style. His third goal came just after the hour mark as he scored with a fierce low drive into the bottom-right corner.

The rumors of Messi’s departure from Camp Nou are not going away as the Argentine skipper fuelled further speculation by stating “I don’t know where I’ll be next year” at the Ballon d’Or ceremony in Zurich.

The reigning La Liga champions, Atletico Madrid invited Granada to Vicente Calderon on Sunday. The game ended 2 – 0 in the favor of Diego Simeone’s side. Granada, bottom of the league and without a permanent coach following Joaquin Caparros’ removal on Friday, made a good start but their hard work was undone 11 minutes before the half time interval when Abdoul Sissoko fouled Diego Godin in the penalty area. Mario Mandzukic scored the penalty to take his tally to16 goals.

With just six minutes remaining on the clock, Mario Mandzukic was substituted for Garcia, and Simeone’s change paid dividends four minutes later as the midfielder headed Turan’s cross from the right to pick up three points for the La Liga champions.

In other fixtures, Sevilla won 2 – 0 at home against Malaga, whereas Elche won 1 – 0 against Levante. David Moyes’ Real Sociedad were stunned at home by Rayo Vallecano. M.Contreiras Gonçalves scored the goal for Rayo in the 81st minute of the game. The former Manchester United boss Moyes was serving his two match ban, which he got after altercation with the referee in the Copa del Rey exit past week.

Valencia also won their game at home against Almeria. The score line after the final whistle was 3 – 2. Valencia are fifth in the league with 38 points, only seven points behind the league leaders, Real Madrid. They can certainly challenge for the Champions League berth if they continue their form.

Other results of Game Week 19 in the Spanish La Liga: Espanyol 1 – 0 Celta de Vigo, Villarreal 2 – 0 Athletic Bilbao.
