Super Moon...light. (Cabo Raso, Portugal)

I interrupt my sharing of the Castelejo "story" for a brief moment, to show my photographic version of the latest super moon.

Yes, I too set off to make a capture of the satellite. At least she was sleeping; as I was not! I planned ahead and, knowing the azimuth she was going to set at, and the time, I noticed that she would align pretty darn perfectly with one of my favorite geo-morpho structures near my humble abode. Alas, it was going to be around 6:00AM (with sunrise at 6:46AM), so I did one of my customary 04:00AM wake ups to be there for the event last Sunday. ("customary" because these are becoming a habit: I pulled another one today for yet another shot I've been planning for a while... but today I got a blah result)

I also knew that the tide was around mid-point and going down, so I was hoping to get a nice water trail on the rocks under the arch. Unfortunately, it was in effect lower than what I anticipated. It really is tricky to get the water level just right at this place. I mean, one can sit there until the tide is right, but the rest of the conditions are usually blah at those times (i.e. the sky).

The scene light was prettier about 20 mins before the capture, because the moon was higher and her light cast under the arch was better. But it was a bit higher in the sky and not so well aligned with the arch, and the composition was not striking for my taste. I traded light for composition on this one.

I also considered descending to the rock bed and composing from there, as I did on past shots at this location. Framing with the moon "under the arch" would be beautiful, especially at that 20 mins earlier time when she was slightly higher. But I was alone and, this time, I did not want to run unnecessary risks. So I also traded chutzpah for safety on this one.

I am amazed that there was nobody else in there, capturing the super moon with this alignment.

The image
This is of course a blend, as a single 30 secs exposure would not have captured the moon detail as shown, but as a single white eliptical blob (because the moon moves rapidly near her setting point, so she trails on a 30s exposure... as well as she overexposes). The moon capture is a faster one, to get the appropriate detail which my eyes where actually seeing. ;)

The nightly tone is largely from the shot, with a little help from processing. As I said, I edited in order to bring back what I saw when on location.

The tech stuff

Within the multitude of bugs that plague the platform at present, one of the most harrowing is the duplication of the post images by Google. Should you see this image duplicated on your stream - other than from a community post or otherwise normal re-share - please understand that is a G+ bug, and not my own replication of the post.
