THE SKY IS UNLIMITED – WHY CHICAGO MAY TAKE SKYLAR

DIGGINS IN THE 4/15/2013 WBBA DRAFT

OPENING: In my humble opinion – the Chicago SKY and SKYlar Diggens may partner up at the WNBA draft on April 15th. .

EDD: First let me say, Elena Delle Donne is a great lady, I luv her, I wish her the best, I am so happy she has made Blue Hens WBB a national name, that she has stood by her sister and that she has become the 5th most prolific scorer in NCAA WBB history.

1. ULTIMATE TALENT POINT GUARDS: But, ultimate talent point (UTPG) guards are, IMHO, much much valuable to a team than a 2 guard with capability to play forward and center.

As I see, it there have been four UTPG’s in recent history: Sue Bird, Diana Taurasi and Lindsey Whelan and SD4. Skylar HAS BEEN SUCCSFUL in HS and College on a level with these great ladies. With her current 2347 points (4/7/13, pre game), Skyler just passed Lindsey - who did not play with three other primary scorers -  who had 2285 points at Minn. Of course Skylar has up two more games to log more points. Skylar, Diana and Sue (3 awards) are the only other two time winners of the Lieberman Award given to the top collegiate point guard in the country.

Also, in terms of #2 guards and scoring, the Sky already has an incredible talent in Epiphany Prince.@piphdagreat10(I luv that twitter handle) holds the HS WBB record with 113 points in a game and has tied the WNBA record with three thirty-point games in a row.

2. ELEVATING EVERYBODY: Skylar ELVATES THE GAME OF EVERYBODYTHAT’S PART OF HER TEAM. Let me repeat that, SKYLAR ELEVATES EVERYBODY ON HER TEAM’S GAME  Everyone understands that the last four years 128 and 19 (.87% W) could not have been possible without Skylar. For me, this result overall is combination of genius coaching, Skylar and everybody else but Skylar has been An absolute “kick off a new era in ND WBB” difference maker. Coach McGraw has often given her plaudits for being a “coach on the floor.”.

EDD has helped Delaware, but her overall “team impact success” has been very very different from Skylar’s as shown in part by how far each school has advanced in the NCAA tourney, for me, even with taking into account difference is coaching and other player’s effectiveness.

3. BRANDING MASTERY: Skylar is an ABSOLUTE MASTER at branding. If Adidas is as smart as I think they are, they will execute a big time contract with her at the minute her graduation ceremony ends.

The headband thing is super special and has spread magnificently.

The “next game thing” on her shoes and her incredible social medial savy*ultra magnetism (335,000 up 17,000 in the last weel twitter followers while another fav of mine Candace Parker has 173,000 at post time) show a marketing WBB talent that is phenomenal.

The next branding wonderment -- as suggested by an ESPN commentator – may going to one name calling her Skylar without the Diggins as has been done with Beyonce, Madonna and other icons.

AS HAS OFTEN BEEN SAID, SKYLAR CAN BECOME A PRIMARY FACE OF WNBA as she has been such for Indiana in HS and for America’s collegiate WBB.

Skylar, especially in a major media market like Chicago, may have the capacity TO SELL TICKETS ULTRA BIG TIME and to make the Chgo Sky a household name in lots and lots of worldwide homes.

SKY playing for the SKY and having the two top Women’s Basketball Players ever from Notre Dame on one team (@ruthriley00) both of tremendous marketing potential.

4. TOUGHMINDED + LEVEL HEADED: Skylar, IMHO, is one of the three toughest minded “level headed” women to ever be in the game, the other two being Lisa Leslie and Pat Summit. For me, at this level of play, WBB is mostly mental over and above coaching, game plan, talent, hard work etc.

5. ONCE IN A LIFETIME: Skylar IMHO is a ONCE IN A LIFETIME POINT GUARD OPPORUNITY. This statement is often made about another woman I luv big time, Brittany Greiner as a center (I live in Phx), but I believe it needs to be said about Skylar.

6. BESTIST ROLE MODEL: IMHO again, Skylar may be able to become a role model for young women who has as much impact at Selena Quintinaila Perez had.

THIS PROJECTION IMHO IS THE MOST SIGNIFICANT THING ABOUT THE SKYLAR EXPERIENCE. Our country desperately needs leaders who ALWAYS do the best right things.

Not all of us can have 200 member families or cities where everybody knows us but we all can take joy and inspiration from someone whose life includes these wonderful elements.

7. BESTIST AT A GREAT UNIVERSITY: IMHO, Skylar is one of five top athletes who have come out of Notre Dame in the past few decades, the others being Joe Montana, Tim Brown and Jermome Bettis and Ruth Riley. All of us including all the decision makers at the Chicago Sky know what the latter three “magnificos” have achieved in their pro careers.

For these seven reasons and many others, this Parseghian era Domer anticipates the Chicago SKY may well take SKYlar 2nd in the overall draft on April 15th.

When UMMC Ekaterinburg had to choose between utilising the stellar talent of either Candace Parker or Sue Bird, it was undoubtedly one of the biggest dilemmas in the history.

                 IV. LUVIN WOMEN'S BASKETBALL GLOBALLY

                            A. GOING ND
                            B. 1/7/12 A VERY SPECIAL DATE.
                            C. PLAYERS THEN TEAMS
                            D. GOING NATIONAL COLLEGIATELY
                            E. POSITIVE ENERGIZER
                            F. GOING GLOBAL
                            G. FUN = TWITTER
                            H. 132 OUT OF 10,000,000
                            I.  ANY TIME, LOTS OF PLACES
                            J. ARE YOU SAYING WBB IS PERFECT?
                            K. BEAUTY AND FAMILY BLESSED
                            L. UNDYING GRATITUDE

       A. GOING ND: Lots of the early entries on this overall blog relate to Notre Dame (ND) Women's Basketball (WBB) because (1) The author was blessed to attend school there in the magical Parseghian football era and because (2) It's WBB teams, in the current Muffet McGraw*Skylar Diggins and coming eras, may be on a "rocket ship" up trajectory in a way that is incredibly good for America.

      B. 1/7/12. A VERY SPECIAL DATE: The author's intro to WBB came about a year ago on January 7, 2011. Flipping through channels while working a computer I came on the broadcast TV offering of ND vs UConn. Knowing a bit about UConn and their great tradition, I was sure ND would have it's work cut out for it. I was amazed at the outcome with its overtime ND "squeaker" win and I WAS HOOKED.

    C. GOING NATIONAL COLLEGIATELY: The author's WBB fan*ship soon broadened out from ND to luvin Tennessee, Baylor, Stanford and then UConn as he got to understand the universal total class and character of more and more players and coaches. This universe is  expanding to include (1) Georgetown (Sugar Rodgers has such an amazing background) and Kentucky (the coach is so fun) and, as of Nov 2013 (2) Georgia Tech, North Carolina and Duke as an incredible group of current HS seniors start ballin on a college level

      D. PLAYERS THEN TEAMS: The author is a fan first of players and then teams. For him, what counts is what these incredible women (1) Are doing with their lives, (2) The contributions they are making, (3) Their effectiveness as role models and (4) How dedicated they are to "gettin" better. After all of this, the author attends to what results they partner up to get on the hard court.
An ultimate example of this is current NCAA scoring leader and Georgetown's ace wing Sugar Rodgers. In the tough neighborhood in which she grew up, she went to the playground with a $1, matched shots with pushers and cons and returned home with healthy profits. http://articles.washingtonpost.com/2011-11-10/sports/35282521_1_ncaa-tournament-return-home-sugar-rodgers.

          E. POSITIVE ENERGIZER: The ABSOLUTE great thing for author about WBB though is that the author never FEELS BAD if the team he favors going into the game does not get the W. (1) He can ALWAYS --  with a little internet searching -- find things about the other team's players and coaches that are empowering. And (2) 99% of the time the team the author favored early will have put up and extraordinary effort "lookin" great  even without "gettin" the W.
NO BAD FEELINGS * YEA!!!! For the author, this NO BAD FEELING's thing is really critical. In America there are lots and lots of things thrown at us that are "ENERGY VAMPIRES." A goal for the author is to totally manage ALL reactions to ALL things ALL the time and to make everything a growth experience.
HIGH EQ: Some people might think of this as being less than totally loyal to a fan's team or city. The author thinks of it as HIGH Emotional Intelligence (EQ) !!!!!
FOR THE AUTHOR, WBB, WITH ITS CLASS AND QUALITY LEADERSHIP, TOTALLY GENERATES POSITIVE ENERGY!

         F. GOING GLOBAL: The author's WBB affections next blossomed out from College to the (1) WNBA and to (2) HS (collegiate recruiting is everything, the great coaches are phenomenal at it) and to (3) Global play (lots of the 132 WNBA women play overseas for 4 to 6 months annually. They get substantially higher compensation overseas and the basic WNBA season is only about 35 games vs 82 in the NBA.)
IMHO, WBB is among America's greatest exports with the overseas popularity of these women doing our country's image an incredible  amount of good. More on this can be viewed at http://www.wnba.com/news/overseas_12.html.
ALL THAT AND FUN TOO: What the author found over and over and over again globally was true magnificence in the Patriot*Warriors that dedicated themselves to the WBB game. They (1) Work extraordinarily hard, (2) They do very well scholastically (when they are in school). (3) They are the types of Patriots America needs, thousands and thousands of incredible female role models, (4) They are Warriors big time on the hard court and they are (5) Fun.

        G. FUN = TWITTER: In terms of this fun thing, and to add " lots more lean meat and vegetables to an already healthy stew," there is TWITTER, IMHO, one of the great democratizing innovations of our time.
90%ER: The author estimates that over 90% of the women who coach or play BB at high levels are on Twitter. It is SO SO great to be able (1) To hear what is of interest to them, (2) To enjoy their inter-baller banter and instagram*video antics(3) To tweet them and to get (4) Periodic Intelligent, courteous responses.
1200 TWEETINGS: I estimate that about 1200 of my early 1/6/13 1425 tweets have been to WBB players. Although I never need a reply, it is always gratifying when I get one.
OUT TO 168K FOLLOWERS: It is extra special when you get a RETWEET, having what you said sent out all the retweeter's followers. Let me tell you when Candace Parker (LA SPARKS, 2009 MVP*ROY) with her 168K followers,  RT's you and tells you that "complimenting her family is the greatest compliment she can get," it lifts your spirits BIG TIME!!!!!
OLD SCHOOL COVER: One of the funnest things I have come on in WBB is this MC Hammer cover by Kentucky U WBB Coach Mathew Mitchell:            Big Blue Madness Coach Mitchell HammerTime Dance

      H. 132 OUT OF 10,000,000: It is important to point that the 132 WNBA women (12 teams, 11 players on each team) may be at the ultra apex of female athleticism in the world in terms of gifts, developed talent and athletic emotional intelligence. One guesstimate is that 10 million young women globally play BB competitively for a period in their lives. If that is accurate when one goes to a WNBA game he or she can see women who are in the top  0.000013% of all the ladies worldwide who have practiced this craft. WOW!!!!
LUV EM ALL: Of course living in Phoenix I am a big (1) Merc fan but I also have lived in Chicago and Indy so the (2) Sky (Ruth Riley from ND and my xtra specials Swin Cash &@pipendagreat*Eppiphany Prince & others), the (3) Fever (2013 surprise Champs. Yea! Tamika Catchings Finals MVP+++, Coach Dunn & others) and the (4) LA Sparks (Candace Parker, Ms Nerd City Neka Ogumike, Lisa Leslie is an owner and others) are equal favs.
LUV THESE TOO: Also top echelon are the (5) Minnesota Lynx (Simone Augustus, Dev Peters from ND and others) and (6) the Washington Mystics (Natalie Novosel from ND and others) and (7) The Tulsa Shock (An all-heart team that is "gettin" great big time).
12 TRUE LUVS TOTAL: And right next to these are all the other teams the (8) Atlanta Dream (A Perennial Title Contender) the (9)  New York Liberty (Bill Laimbeer is their new coach), (11) the Connecticut Sun (Had the league MVP in 2012) and the (12) Seattle Storm (Sue Bird and others). .
WIN*WIN 12X: In other words, for the author, the WNBA is a win*win repeated 12 times. "Alliterat*ing" this it's

                       W W W W W W W W W W W  W

     I. ANY TIME, LOTS OF PLACES: Along with all its other positives, WBB is a year around sport. During the Collegiate/HS season WNBA plays are ballin overseas and after the the regular WNBA season fires up lots of the HS and some college ladies play Club ball.
QUALITY ENTERTAINMENT AND EMPOWERMENT OVER 300 DAYS A YEAR!!!! WOW WOW WOW!!!!!

     J. ARE YOU SAYING WBB IS PERFECT? Of course not. Any initiative involving hundreds of celebrities is going to evidence errant behavior at times. But relative to other celebrity site*ings, IMHO, WBB does xtra well, the highs and the lows are both much higher than the norm.

     K. BEAUTY AND FAMILY BLESSED: As a male I would be remiss not to mention the matter of the beauty. motherhood. and often, relationships with which these ladies have been blessed. Lots and lots of them could be full time models. Lots of them also are in high quality relationships with partners/husbands.
MOTHERHOOD UPLIFT: And three of them with younger children -- Niele Ivey (ND Coach) with Jaden, Tina Thompson (WNBA * from day 1 in the 1990's) with Dyllan and Candace Parker with Lailla -- are among the most dedicated, fun and quality mothers that I have encountered!!!!
A BEST EVER: One of the most uplifting partner/parent videos I have ever seen is this ESPNW one focused on Siemone Augustus:  http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=8239508
BODY ISSUES * WOW!!! Finally as regards femininity, the ESPNW "Body Issues" MUST to be noted. The art with this wonderful network has created with their features on Diana Taurasi, Sylvia Folwes and Candace Parker is VERY impressive.

   L. UNDYING GRATITUDE: WBB, for the author, has enhanced leisure time immensely and has inspired him o continue to try to be a better person and has caused him to become a more dedicated athlete.
A million thanks and all the ultimate very best to all of you HOOPSTAS!!!!!
