Let’s talk Radamel Falcao. Manchester United fans were on cloud 9 when it was announced that the Colombian superstar was signed on deadline day at the start of the season. And rightfully so, Falcao was arguably one of the best strikers in the world at that time. He had an amazing record pre-United with 155 goals in just 200 appearances. During his time at Atletico, Falcao had an average of 3.6 shots per game, a conversion rate of 21% and he scored a goal every 112.4 minutes.

Juventus 1 - Fiorentina 2: Initial reaction and random observations

Take a guess as to what the first reaction I had was. Go ahead.
Mo Salah, Mo stupid problems for Juventus.
There were, in fact, a whole lot of problems for Max Allegri’s squad after Thursday night’s 2-1 loss to Fiorentina in the first leg of the Coppa Italia semifinals. Juventus played as poorly as they have in weeks in front of their hometown crowd. A sold-out Juventus Stadium saw their team slog and stumble through mental and physical mistakes against a Fiorentina side that was pretty damn good to boot.
This was, in essence, the perfect storm for Fiorentina.
Yes, Juventus tied the game midway through the first half thanks to Fernando Llorente scoring a classic Fernando Llorente kind of goal, but when you have strikers making 70-yard runs and your team playing extremely well at easily one of the hardest stadiums in Italy to play in. This was Fiorentina at close to its best and Juventus close to its worst this season. I really don’t care that Juventus had more possession and just as many shots on target as Fiorentina.
Thursday night’s first leg was just … yuck. There, one word to describe it.

.@OfficialAllegri: “This result needs to make us sit up and take notice ahead of our next fixtures. Now for an important game with Sassuolo”
— JuventusFC (@juventusfcen) March 5, 2015

For a team that looked both mentally and physically tired against Fiorentina, things aren’t getting any easier. It’s not like the schedule is going to be in any sort of a forgiving mood over the next couple of weeks before the international break arrives later this month. The team needs legit rest and time off. Can they actually get it, though? They’ve played three incredibly tough games in the span of about 10 days. That’s a lot to ask of any club no matter how good they are.
Can Juventus rebound right away when it is desperately needed? Sure, but this is a team whose flaws are becoming more and more apparent as the weeks go by in the calendar year of 2015. The defense is looking even more disorganized and prone to mistakes, the midfield isn’t so dominant as it once was not so long ago, and just the overall quality of play leaves a whole lot to desired.
Maybe the loss to Fiorentina will wake the team up and snap them out of whatever is preventing them from reaching their potential. An extremely disappointing loss has done so once before, hopefully it can do it again. And preferably before the trip to Germany for the second leg against Borussia Dortmund. That would be nice, wouldn’t it?
Random thoughts and observations

Simone Padoin is going to have nightmares of Mohamed Salah running at — and past — him for years to come. Salah was flying down the field in warp speed while Padoin was just trying to keep up as much as he could. The end result was exactly what you would expect to see — Padoin getting burned and Salah opening the scoring for Fiorentina.

Kingsley Coman took one hell of a nasty tackle to his right foot/ankle and never recovered from it. If you want to go ahead and criticize him for how he played in the limited amount of time he was full strength, go right ahead. But then you’d just be taking things completely out of context.

I had no problem with Max Allegri going with a 4-3-3 or that he chose to rotate as much of the squad as he did. Juventus just wasn’t able to generate any kind of answer to Fiorentina after they took a 2-1 lead. Oh, there were chances to score, but the finishing was, well, not very good at all.

I believe Allegri really does want to get Juventus to the Coppa Italia final, but until they actually play well en route to that, the notion that the club doesn’t hold the tournament in very high regard will continue to be there. That’s just the nature of the beast.

That mistake by Claudio Marchisio on Salah’s second goal, that’s just one of the most un-Marchisio-like mistakes you’ll see. And Salah did what he should do — jump all over the mistake and grab a goal.
That’s all I got. Uninspired Juventus has left me with nothing left to say. May the personal Padoin winning streak be remembered as something wonderful.

Van Gaal to consider breaking up his Man Utd strike force

Louis van Gaal will consider breaking up his £100m strike force if their struggles in front of goal continue from now until the end of the season. The Manchester United manager has been frustrated by his lack of a prolific centre forward, despite having a stellar cast of names in Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao to choose from. Falcao’s fate appears to have been sealed after the Colombian was left out of the starting XI for Wednesday’s 1-0 win against Newcastle. Van Gaal demonstrated his lack of faith in the 29-year-old, who has managed just four goals in 20 games, by leaving him on the bench – even when the score was goalless. Reports in France this week claimed United had already opted against making his season-long loan move from Monaco a permanent one. And while Old Trafford’s hierarchy are sticking firmly to the line that a decision will not be made until the end of the season, it would take a remarkable turnaround in Falcao’s fortunes to convince Van Gaal to commit £43m of his summer budget on him. Van Persie, at the age of 31 and with one more season to run on his current deal, is also seriously at risk after just 10 goals this term. The Dutch striker has failed to emulate the form he showed in his first year at Old Trafford – and this summer would represent the last chance for United to make a return on him. Van Gaal has been impressed with Rooney’s application But Dutch manager appears to have lost faith in Falcao Van Persie is out of contract next year Rooney’s future is not in question, with Van Gaal delighted by the England captain’s application and openness to his ideas. The 29-year-old has even been willing to sacrifice his own chances up front to do a job for United in midfield for much of the season. Still he has managed a return of 11 goals. With James Wilson still adjusting to life in the first team squad, Van Gaal has been left with an ageing pool of strikers. Last week he bemoaned the fact that United do not have a 20-goal-a-season forward – which was the biggest hint yet that he is ready to make a change. Former United striker Michael Owen has underlined the issues facing Van Gaal as he attempts to secure a top four finish this season. “I think Manchester United have got serious problems now,” he told BT Sport. “They’ve got their three big hitters – by the way they are probably on nearly £1m pounds-a-week combined – they are 31, 29 and 29. “There’s no longevity there. There’s two of them that are looking pretty tired now. Centre forward is a young man’s game. “You need to be energetic, you need to be moving, strong, put yourself about – and unfortunately there’s only Wayne Rooney who’s got the capability of doing that at the moment.” Paul Scholes claims United’s players have lost faith in their strikers. “I think they are lacking confidence in their centre forwards,” said the former midfielder. “I don’t know how many times I’ve said this – you are only as good as your two centre forwards. “And (their) centre forwards have been really poor. “If I was playing midfield in this team I’d be worried about passing to the centre forwards. “They can’t get hold of the ball, there’s not enough movement and I’d worry about it. Man Utd's mean to lean strikers have cost us – Van Gaal It's D-Day for Falcao as his Man Utd future hangs in the balance Giggs could leave Man Utd to get managerial chance, claims Scholes He added: “Falcao – there’s no doubt has struggled. I was at the game Saturday (against Sunderland). Is it a combination of his injury and not being suited to English football? “I think it’s probably a combination of both.” Owen says Van Gaal must stick with Rooney up front from now on. Had a fellow ask me if I could cut in a hobbit rune for him.  So I thought I would give it a try,

The 1075/1080 alloy that Admiral Steel shipped me absolutely does not want to harden in the warm oil I normally use for strikers.  Or, it doesn't want to harden enough for a striker.  So I opted to try water since that was the only other option left too me.  Turns out that water is a bit too fast.  Still, it's hard as hard can get and the sparks are good and plentiful.
