In fact, in many ways it’s a sign that a band or artist has ‘made it’ and truly crossed over into the mainstream. Following Icelandic post-rockers Sigur Ros’ appearance in a recent episode, we’ve been thinking of our favourite Simpsons’ cameos from down the years – here are three of the best.  Michael Jackson In a rare show of self-awareness, the late King of Pop put in an appearance in season three episode Stark Raving Dad, where he played a psychiatric patient who pretended to be, er, Michael Jackson. Episode highlights included singing a duet with Bart – which, it later transpired, was recorded by a Michael Jackson impersonator. Confusing! Paul McCartney The Beatles legend appeared alongside his late wife Linda in 1995’s Lisa The Vegetarian, which saw the middle Simpson child commit to a meatless diet with help from her musical heroes and Kwik-E-Mart proprietor Apu. Simpsons creator Matt Groening commented that McCartney’s appearance was a “dream come true” for the show. Lady Gaga More recently, the newly anointed queen of pop has appeared in the show, hitting Springfield in 2012 episode Lisa goes Gaga to cheer up a saddened Lisa.   With the show celebrating its 25th anniversary next year, we’re looking forward to plenty more blockbuster musical cameos – who would you like to see visit Springfield next?
