"Susan Sontag’s definition of an intellectual as someone who is interested in everything is perhaps an exaggeration. No one can be equally interested in everything, but Bob came damned close.

The idea of civilization that Bob personified is now under siege, not least in the countries that he was most closely associated with. We have lost him just when he was most needed. Our tribute must be to defend what he stood for. On we go. We owe it to him."

Robert B. Silvers (1929–2017)
Until I arrived at the Review as an editorial assistant, I had never met anyone who so rarely engaged in idle pleasantries as Bob. His daily language was pared down, accurate, and sincere. I found his example revelatory, and I would ponder his usage and elisions like a giddy college freshman. Bob would never, for instance, wish us a good weekend. Presumably he had no particular investment in the quality of our weekends, and possibly he didn’t eve...

This is the disc that came with my kid's XR9500PRW. It may be the same as the cs6000i. We had no way to watch a DVD near the sewing machine, but we have a laptop and so YouTube is much better.

Passover Guide 2017 - (http://gplnk.co/2mXlsJn)

Simply put, Passover is a time of thanksgiving for God ‘passing over’ the Hebrew homes that were marked with the blood of the lamb eaten the night before. God took the firstborn of all that lived in Egypt during the time of the Hebrew slavery. The death of the firstborn of Pharaoh helped him to decide to let the people go.

The Torah makes it clear what foods not only have a prohibition of being eaten but what food must be removed from the house during Passover. Basically, it is grains that could be used in the baking or leavening of bread. The link at the bottom clarifies these issues. The Passover Guide was written by our Rabbi Emeritus, Robert Silvers. The whole guide gives a complete explanation of Passover and the Jewish words that we use.

Over the years, Passover has become more complicated. Some Jewish families celebrate Passover for 8 days, making the most important days this year April 10th and April 18th. Other Families celebrate for 7 days, this year April 10th and April 17th.

Most Jewish families celebrate the beginning and end of Passover with a Seder. Some families even invite non-Jewish people as a way to share our culture. The Seder is much more than just a formal Jewish meal. It is a dramatic, religious experience. Seders vary by families but the most important thing is that the participants all leave with a sense of Jewish history, drama, food and spirituality.
