Organisation Logos via schema.org

Google Webmaster blog announced that you can now add schema.org markup to your site to tell Google what your preferred logo is.

If you don't have any other presence on Google+ then this might provide a mechanism for Google to display what the business owner considers to be their correct logo if a knowledge graph box appears for a query, in case they are getting that wrong at times currently.

I presume if you've got Google authorship for publishers setup for a website that the information from within Google+ would trump the schema.org markup for a logo in the cases where they are different for some reason.
Official Google Webmaster Central Blog: Using markup for organization logos
Webmaster level: all. Today, we're launching support for the schema.org markup for organization logos, a way to connect your site with an iconic image. We want you to be able to specify which image we use as your logo in Google search results. Using schema.org Organization markup, ...

Google over Bing!
I took the Bing Vs Google Challenge which was ironically being held across the street from Google IO at the Metreon. Google won and here's why...

They said I could ask the challenge machine five questions. I knew if I just started inputting random search terms it would just be a battle of aesthetics so I focused on searches I do every week. Movies, Biographies, Flight Info, and Math Conversions.

With Movies Google won as it brought up movie times and theaters. Biographies, which I did two, Bing won but only because the quick knowledge cards I'm used to weren't displayed in the caparison. Flight info was an easy win for Google as it brought up exact info for flights available for my route. Finally I asked both search engines for a conversion from Euro to USD. Bing brought up conversion sites and Google gave me the conversion itself.

Google Now/Knowledge Graph is the key. Pointing me exactly to what I'm looking for to answer my core questions that cause me to search in the first place rather than pointing me to a more narrower resource which may or may not have my answer. Some of this is reliant on perspective in what you are really looking for but keep in mind that Google also learns from you, the individual the more you use it. When I'm logged in I barely type anything  before Google realizes what I want whether it be by trend, letters I'm typing, Time of day, Where I'm checked in and soo much more.

Since Google beat Bing they gave me a bottle opener keychain with a flashlight and a $25 gift card if I spend $75 or more in a Microsoft store which are pretty scarce to begin with. Reward me for cheap Microsoft swag for proving there search engine isn't as good? I'd rather see the Microsoft Guy yell three times out loud that Google Search Rocks.

My entry (which I didn't create and never edited) still hasn't recovered its normal links since it was drive-by deleted by a pair of anonymous "_editors_" with infantile-sounding handles some time back.  The anonymous nature of Wikipedia editing encourages abuses that are not very likely to be discovered for long periods except for high traffic pages and topics.  After the damage is done, it can be very difficult to repair, restore Knowledge Graph juice, etc. - Lauren

I have seen Knowledge Graph Search in application personally, was almost shocked. Yesterday I got a reminder that I have a flight tomorrow, clicked on the link I get the whole itinerary as a card for a search 'my flight'. I have almost figured out how they got the information. But I want people to give clever guesses. If you get it right, I have a Google flash drive for you as a present (if in Kenya). #io13   #gdg  +Larry Page

"Google's approach toward artificial intelligence embodies a new way of designing and running complex systems. Rather than create a monolithic entity with its own modules for reasoning about certain inputs and developing hypotheses that let it bootstrap its own intelligence into higher and higher abstractions away from base inputs, as other AI researchers did through much of the 60s and 70s, Google has instead taken a modular approach.

"We have the knowledge graph, [the] ability to parse natural language, neural network tech [and] enormous opportunities to gain feedback from users," Spector said in an earlier speech at Google IO. "If we combine all these things together with humans in the loop continually providing feedback our systems become ... intelligent."

Spector calls this his "combination hypothesis", and though Google is not there yet – SkyNet does not exist – you can see the first green buds of systems that have the appearance of independent intelligence via some of the company's user-predictive technologies such as Google Now, the new Maps and, of course, the way it filters search results according to individual identity."

Google+: The Connective Tissue That Binds All Google Products

We've seen a lot of integrations between Google products happening lately. A few of the services that now incorporate Google+ are:

 - Google Maps
 - Gmail
 - YouTube
 - Google Music

This connective tissue is changing the way we interact, consume and share and is providing Google with lots of information feeding the Knowledge Graph.

Is Google+ guiding the future of search? Will there ultimately be "one tool to rule them all?"

#googleplus
How Google+ is pushing its way into all Google products
Google is pushing Google+ as more than a social network or video-chatting tool. It's connective tissue tying Google's most popular products together.

Google’s Senior Vice President Amit Singhal used his time at the 2013 I/O podium to announce “the end of search as we know it.” While some of the search enhancements he announced won’t actually mark the end of search, they do point to cool new ways to interact with information.
