TV Pipeline: Meet "Your Mother's" alternate ending on DVD soon
By Jay Bobbin

Q: Is it true that another version of the ending of "How I Met Your Mother" was filmed and will be available on the DVD set? - Gary David, Jupiter, Fla.
A: There will be an alternate-ending option, and according to series co-creator and executive producer Carter Bays, it very well could have ended up as the one that was shown on the air when the CBS sitcom concluded its nine-season run last month. It was between that and the one that did air, both of which were ready to go ... and you can judge for yourself which you prefer when both Season 9 individually and a complete series set are issued on disc this fall.

Q: On March 29, the season finale of "When Calls the Heart" aired on Hallmark Channel. Will this series be continued? - Elem Freeman, Elverson, Pa.
A: An official renewal hadn't been issued yet at this writing, but every indication is that the Erin Krakow-starring show will get a Season 2, cemented by the fact that the finale hit a series-high rating. That's the kind of growth network executives look for.
Also, Hallmark Channel officials didn't hesitate to note "the incredible outpouring of support from dedicated fans on social media." That, too, is a major factor in keeping a show going these days. Hallmark is a relative newcomer to the original series game, so anything that gives a show that sort of audience traction isn't likely to be dismissed.

Q: I read last summer that "Malibu Country" with Reba McEntire had been renewed for another season. I have not seen its return. Did ABC change its mind? - Randi Bova, Columbus, Ohio
A: Wherever you may have read that, it was inaccurate. Despite Reba's fan base from both her acting and singing careers - and even though the original episode order was increased - ABC ultimately opted not to renew the show, so it was one season and out for it.

Q: I missed "Dancing With the Stars" the night Billy Dee Williams left. What was the reason he did? - Judy Mitchell, Buffalo, N.Y.
A: His doctor advised him to bow out of the contest because for a chronic back problem, He was quite gracious in commending dance partner Emma Slater for the work she'd done with him over their weeks of performance and rehearsal, and his early exit made the need for a formal elimination of another contestant that night unnecessary.

Q: I enjoyed seeing Turner Classic Movies' all-day tribute to Doris Day on her recent birthday. What was the last movie she made? - Ellen Hart, West Palm Beach, Fla.
A: It was shown during that festival, albeit toward the end and in the wee hours. "With Six You Get Eggroll" is a 1968 comedy often compared to the same year's "Yours, Mine and Ours," since both were about people who had lost their spouses and decided to marry each other ... to the great chagrin of their eldest children.
Brian Keith was Day's romantic partner in the film, which also marked the movie debut of Barbara Hershey as his daughter. Also featured in the picture was the popular 1960s music group the Grass Roots, plus comedian George Carlin as a wisecracking carhop who always happened to be on duty when Day and Keith's characters had secret late-night meetings at a drive-in eatery.

Q: Will "Chicago PD" be back next season? - Bill Brown, Schaumburg, Ill.
A: It will. The "Chicago Fire" spinoff was one of the earliest series renewals by NBC for the 2014-15 season, along with "Chicago Fire" itself. It certainly hasn't hurt the two Dick Wolf-produced shows that their characters have crossed over with reasonable regularity since the police drama premiered in January.

Q: Will there be a "Psych" reunion movie? - Cindy Hill, Richmond, Calif.
A: The chance for it surely exists, but with the USA Network series having ended only a few weeks ago, it's a bit early for it to be discussed as a reality.
Also, several of its stars - including real-life couple James Roday and Maggie Lawson - have new shows in the works (both for CBS, in their cases), so their availability also will be a factor if and when "Psych" reunion project discussions get serious.
