If he’s not working in his studio or in some almost impossible-to-reach location, he’ll be racing around Clifton Hill on one of his three beloved Vespas including his new ‘hot rod’. 1. Is photography your only love? Definitely not…my first love is my wife and kids. I would say that photography and Vespa scooters come in as a tie for second place. 2. Have you ever worked with any celebrities – if so who was your worst nightmare? Yeah many celebs over the years. Worst nightmare and person in general…I won’t name names…but let’s just say a very well known international supermodel, who was less than polite and really difficult. She made sure everyone knew she was the boss! Best celebrity would be Harry Kewell. Not only a top bloke, but really happy to chat with me. He even threw in a few Turkish words which was great! 3. Which of your shoots gave you the most satisfaction? I shot a series called ‘My People’ over about two years. The photos are close-up 'candids' of Turkish Cypriot migrants who came to Australia mostly in the 1950s and 1960s. I am really proud of the images. They were a personal project and I love every one of them. I walked up, put the camera in their faces then walked away. Neither I nor they ever said a word. The images really show the soul of the subjects. Many of the people in the photos are now deceased which makes the images all the more special. http://gaziphoto.com/personal/1/index.html 4. Which of your shoots gave you the biggest challenge? I would have to say the Origin LPG campaign we did last year, we shoot in thick fog and patchy rain on a mountain top in Tasmania. Running battery packs from the boot of the car and flash heads wrapped in garbage bags was a struggle and we had limited time to position a truck on a slippery cliff face. It was not easy. It was a huge adrenalin rush though and it was absolutely awesome! http://gaziphoto.com/commercial/1/index.html 5. Are you a perfectionist? Yes and it drives me mad sometimes. And it makes life hard, as I expect the same from others around me. 6. Who or what inspired you to start photographing scooters? Actually a model came into the studio on a scooter one day and we used it for a shoot. She let me take it for a ride and I was hooked. I ride every day now and have three vintage scooters which are literally works of art. I have them on display at the studio. 7. What are some of the big name brands that you’ve worked on? Origin LPG, Steve Madden, Florsheim, Midas, Mollini, Grocon and Walking with the Dinosaurs BBC Arena Spectacular.   8. Do you prefer location or studio shoots? Location for sure. A lot of times the location is unknown so it’s more of a challenge and it is where I tend to thrive. 9. What is the most awe inspiring location you’ve worked in? Probably the Devil’s Elbow in Tasmania where we shot the Origin truck on a cliff. Close second would be the Four Seasons Resort in Bali - absolutely perfect. 10. Colour or black and white? Black and white for sure. 11. Who inspired you to get into photography? I was inspired by everything around me. I needed to make some kind of artistic statement, and the camera was the only tool that I really connected with. I thank my parents for supporting me through schooling and all the early years of being a struggling artist. 12. What do you do to switch-off? Play with my two boys and shop online. 13. Do you take your camera with you when you go on holiday? No, no, no! That’s a BIG no. My wife takes the holiday photos. And my six year old has his camera too. I prefer to look with my eyes only and keep the mental picture. 14. If they were going to make a movie about GAZI who do you think should play you? Yul Brynner would have been perfect but he has left this world.
