https://plus.google.com/111135201342863550660 Frank de Boer :  remember hearing stories from my grandparents about the war. The War. There have been plenty of wars...
remember hearing stories from my grandparents about the war. The War. There have been plenty of wars since, but it's a sign of enduring peace on our local soil that after seventy years, 'The War' still means World War II.

My grandparents were very young back then. Their stories were the memories of children. I'm part of the youngest generation to have known relatives that lived through that war. Eventually, every memory will be dug up from the collective conscience and the personal memories will fade. Books, photographs and early film footage will replace the personal connection until schools will teach it as a more detached part of history like so many wars before it. Those sources are important.

One such book is 'De Vergelding' by Jan Brokken. A thrilling account of a tragedy that occurred during the occupation, written three quarters of a century after the fact. It reads like a suspenseful detective novel, with information pieced together during interviews with the few eye witnesses who are still around. I wrote a song inspired by the book when it came out and now it's on the new record.

Recorded and shot by Tijmen de Vries at Pieterkerk Utrecht. This is a song about an unsolved murder on a German soldier during the occupation of Holland in World War II. The German officer in charge of the strictly religious town where the murder took place executed seven innocent people in retaliation. It is based on 'De Vergelding', a book by Dutch author Jan Brokken. You can read about it here: http://www.frankensongs.com/blog/index.php/the-reckoning/ I uploaded it before, but this is the version on the record.

Exclusive - Frank de Boer WOULD be interested in Manchester City job, claims brother
Ronald de Boer claims brother Frank WOULD be interested in managing Manchester City – but not until 2016. Manuel Pellegrini is expected to be removed as Etihad chief at the end of the season, after a dreadful season with the Premier League champions. Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti and Atletico Madrid chief Diego Simeone have been linked with the City top job, should the club decide to sack the Chilean.
