Kathie Lee & Hoda: J.Lo, Whitney Cummings and the art of aging

Jerritt Clark/Getty Images Jennifer Lopez, 46. Enlarge Ilya S. Savenok/Getty Images  Comedian Whitney Cummings Enlarge Jennifer Lopez (left) and Whitney Cummings seem to be defying the aging process. Aging has never been so fun! Between 46, and comic , 32, we drooled this week over two gorgeous women who prove that getting older can be pretty and funny. J.Lo simply looked stunning over the weekend, when she was seen in the Hamptons celebrating her birthday in a skimpy dress. And gorgeous Whitney — besides being absolutely hysterical — came on our show and walked us through her anti-aging regimen, including an LED mask she likes to wear to “lift and tighten” the skin on her face. She also talked about a machine she uses to zap her face while she’s on the go. We’ve already ordered them, two sets! I’m not joking. : Is one of them for me? I want the LED lights, or I’ll just stand under one. I mean — what is it? An LED mask with the eyes cut out. : She said you look you’re appearing in the masquerade sex scene from the movie “Eyes Wide Shut.” I’m really excited about the portable NuFace one. Earl Gibson III Bill Cosby has been accused of raping and drugging dozens of women. : Yeah, she does it in the car. : We even tried to make an appointment with Whitney’s facialist. You put your name on this list, but it’s like 16 years before you can get it. : Meanwhile, J. Lo looks hot in anything. I mean, I can’t believe that’s a 46-year-old body. It makes me a little depressed. The minute you look at her and you think, she’s had kids and that’s what 46 looks like. : That’s what 46 can look like. OK? She literally works her butt off to look like that. : And J. Lo really does work. When people ask her, J. Lo says, “I was actually in the gym for two hours.” : I did have a minor issue with her birthday dress. I often love her style, but I just thought her look was more about the dress. I sound like such an old fart today. ’Cause guess what? I am. But who cares, I’ve earned it. Amanda Demme/New York Daily News The issue features the tales of 35 women who allege they were sexually assaulted by Cosby, and they’re all featured on the cover. This week’s edition of New York magazine makes you stop in your tracks. The issue features the tales of 35 women who allege they were sexually assaulted by , and they all appear on the cover. : That was such a powerful cover. There’s something about that image of 35 women in chairs, dressed almost the same, that gave it all a new dimension. : I guess the real power is in the sheer number of these women who really have nothing to gain except for justice. They said, “We’re not going to let this go unpunished.” HK: Hats off to New York magazine for figuring out a way to drive it home. Plans were unveiled this week to tear down and rebuild LaGuardia Airport; a move the experts say will fix the travel hub’s chronic flight delays once and for all. They say it will take only four or five years. We have reservations. Anthony DelMundo/New York Daily News The plan to rebuild LaGuardia Airport is slated to take 5 years. : It’s going to be a nightmare, though, getting it done. : That sounded like an old-fart response. : Construction projects always cost twice as much as they say they’re going to cost and take twice as long. : I need to speak out in favor of the old LaGuardia. There are few airports that you can walk in and your terminal is just right there. It’s all just so close! At JFK you’ve got to walk 10 miles to get to your plane. At LaGuardia, it’s all in one place: Burger King and the plane. And it works for me. : Now who’s sounding like an old fart? KXAS The Arizona Cardinals added a woman, Jen Welter, to its coaching staff. Who could imagine that the hottest ticket on Broadway would be a musical about founding father Alexander Hamilton — set to hip hop? two weeks ago, followed by , , and . : I’m going to see it. It sounds great. : I’m just not a fan of that genre of music. It’s hard enough for me to listen to it when it’s coming out of a contemporary person. : You know, I love a little “what what” with my history lesson! What an amazing move by the Arizona Cardinals. The team has added a woman, , to its coaching staff. And she’s the first woman to hold a coaching position of any kind in the NFL. : Good for her. I hope she’s successful. If she isn’t, I hope they’ll treat her just as they would a male coach who is not as good as he needs to be. We say we want equality, and sometimes when things don’t work out we scream sexism. It’s going to be interesting to see how the players receive her. Rob Carr/AP Harper Lee’s ‘Go Set a Watchman’ may not be the ideal summer reading. : Yup. That’ll be the key. ’s “Go Set a Watchman” may be a little bit too heavy for our summer reading, but we may give the new Dr. Seuss book a chance. : No chance. : Aw, you know we’d read that. It’ll take a minute and we’ll be done. : You go and read it to your nieces, OK? Dr. Seuss is actually very annoying to me. HK: Oh my God! Make her stop. Crabby old fart. A look at the story behind the story, examining the symbol laden film by Stanley Kubrick, eyes wide shut:
even though kubrick died before finishing the film's director's version which was to include several scenes that stanely was forced to cut for the theatrical version.... which only adds to the mysteriousness surrounding his death. even without those shots, this film is still a masterwork in that it certainly does tell on the goats. enjoy ;(

SURVIVING THE STORM ~ LIFE IS WHAT YOU MAKE IT
In life storms come in many shapes and forms.  Sometimes storms come because of mishaps, something unexpected, what we bring on ourselves, and let us not forget peer pressure.  Life storms come in an array of assorted flavors depending on the person, scene, mood, discipline, but mostly mind set.  The list can go on and on.
I’m here to share in hopes that those of you who life’s path steered you down those spiral steps where Angels dare not tread with your eyes wide shut.  Seeing but not caring, knowing but not daring to understand, willing because you’re too curious to use caution, and deterred all warning because you taken off in a full sprint tossing all care in the wind.
Then when you do take a pause, you’re in so deep you don’t know which way is up nor who to trust.  No longer trusting in your judgment, because that’s what got you where you are.  In the midst of an uphill struggle crawling backwards – or it seems.  You’ve sunk yourself in so deep along with your fellow padres who only know one direction and that is to take you deeper in deeper down that spiral staircase to hell.  Be it addictions of any kind, promiscuousness, porn, or anything that will lead you to the “DARK SIDE OF LIFE” you best beware.
I walked on the dark side for what seemed forever.  The choices I made and my previous lifestyle almost was the death of me. I wrote my first novel entitled “From Hell to Salvation” in fictional format, but every word was true.  The term: “give’em enough rope and they will hang themselves” is oh so true.  I found myself dangling from that rope and it was by the grace of God, prayer, and a lot of change on my part that I am here today to give testimony to any and all who would listen that truly there is a God of second chances and He will bring you out of your mess restoring you to full stream, giving you a message to help lead His other lost sheep home. To God be The Glory!
Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)  For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Today was the last day of the rest of my life...

I turned in my rental trailer. Had it detailed after a nursery load and dropped it off. Just to make it more exciting, I did it before I signed the sales papers on my new flatbed. What a rebel! I swear, I do stupid stuff just to see if my hearts still beating. Tell me that isn't the ultimate luxury, the power to screw up just because you can.

Political leaders must do that all the time. If I was President I would constantly lean against the buttons for the nukes. Anytime some idiot wanted me to sign something, just start pounding the buttons. Those buttons haven't been connected to anything since Kennedy was President. But I wouldn't tell... joking aside I want to share with you a secret to my success as a trucker.

I am terribly anxious when faced with random tasks. Every day I make a huge effort to overcome that fear. I can barely put this into words how powerful these feelings are sometimes. To sit at a desk for the next 30 years would be so great! Always the same thing every day, sign me up. I recently had a day at home completely alone. Funny thing was, I couldn't, not do anything? TV, computer, garage, yard, videogames, guitar, sleep, etc, were all incredibly boring. I hope this isn't an indication I am getting old. Nah, just experienced. Right?

Every day is different in trucking. When I think of that in the morning it downright scares me. Sure, I've been on countless highways, every weather condition imaginable, been cutoff by so many cars with Coexist stickers, and repeated that plenty of times, for years. Not knowing what is going to happen just freaks me out. I had the luxury of hauling Reefer freight for about 5 years now. Simple, slam doors, drive, kinda job. It actually kept my anxieties in check somewhat. No claims, or damages, or lates, in hauling all those loads. If I can't say I'm the perfect example of a professional trucker then I don't know what is. Haven't ever admitted that, humble just blew out the window right there! I never let anyone know I'm anxious either. Tell jokes, smile, and get the job done. As the legendary comedian Patrice O'Neil once said, gotta have "save the world" face just like the perverted TSA agents that smell women's shoes.

Across from my wallet today, sat the signed sales papers for that new trailer. Basically $68,000 passed from that cheap Chinese, lead paint, sweatshop, organic, Walmart wallet I carry. Most importantly, GE Capital got slightly closer to world domination. I feel good knowing I probably funded some weird "Eyes Wide Shut" party this weekend. Maybe someone in the Illuminati got to sleep a little easier knowing I helped the stock market a millionth of a percentage point. Man, get back to topic! See what I mean by stupid stuff?

That new trailer poses a huge challenge for me to overcome. With flatbed freight you never know what you're going to haul next. I ride the open market as far as loads go. Avoiding dedicated work simply because I'd rather roll the dice and possibly make more money hauling something else. When I roll up to my first customer with my brand new trailer there is so much to worry about.

Did I find the right address?
Where to check in?
Park over here ok?
Hardhat, vest, steel toe shoes, safety glasses?
What's the item I'm shipping?
How do they load it?
How long is this going to take?
How do I keep it on the trailer?
Do I have enough dunnage or the correct kind?
How tall, wide, long?
How much weight can I carry?
Is it balanced legally on my axles?
Do I have to tarp it?
Is there a tarp station?
How soon can it be delivered?
Did I negotiate enough for the rate?
How's the weather going to be?
How much fuel do I buy?
Where do I stop for sleep?
Truckstop, rest area, or random spot?
Did I secure it good enough on the trailer?
Am I hungry?
Where am I going to deliver it?

I could go on for another 20 minutes easily. That only describes a few moments in the beginning of a typical truckers day. That may even get compounded if your lucky enough to unload the same day as your reload.

So let's reiterate, overcome your fears and you will find sucess. It's mostly, sometimes, probably, maybe, working for me. I think. Every day is a challenge. Right?

87 years ago, on July 26th, 1928, one of the most influential directors, writers and producers of the film history, Stanley Kubrick was born in New York, USA. His films from "Dr. Strangelove" over "Shining" to "Eyes Wide Shut" are legendary, so I digged out an +Open Culture report about his earliest artworks as  a teenager in New York:

... He began taking pictures at the age of thirteen, when his father bought him a Graflex camera. During his teenage years, Kubrick flirted with a career as a jazz drummer but abandoned the pursuit, instead joining Look Magazine as its youngest staff photographer right out of high school in 1945. ...

Stanley Kubrick’s Jazz Photography and The Film He Almost Made About Jazz Under Nazi Rule
Stanley Kubrick (looking like a creepy Rowan Atkinson above) came of age as a chess-hustling photographer in the jazz-saturated New York City of the 1940s. He began taking pictures at the age of thirteen, when his father bought him a Graflex camera.
