Frank Lampard, The return of the prodigal son.

I said to a mate Carl Jackson I'd write something on Frank Lampard after the City game, here it is.
Let me start by saying, without question or doubt Frank Lampard is a Chelsea legend and will go down as one of, if not the greatest player ever to wear a Chelsea shirt.
I suspect some would like me to stop there, but I've a few words to add.

It's hard really where to start, because you all know the legend that is Frank, so I don't really need to go over his career at Chelsea, really all I need to do is question or give my take on his new pastures and the fact he's a few miles away from Manhattan, in Manchester.

There are many rumours on his departure from Chelsea, I do know a few facts about him eventually leaving for NYC, but I'm afraid that due to personal reasons, and I am not trying to show off here, I am not at liberty to be able to disclose them, but, what I am allowed to say is that the whole saga of him leaving did leave a bad taste in the mouth.

How he went from NYC and the scarf photos & not signing for them to scoring against us & a few other goals besides to keep our nearest rivals in the title race is questionable to say the least.

Why was our legend there! Why had he done this to us? Why the lies?
The quotes of "I'll never play for another Premier League team," had been quoted, but I've never seen a interview with him saying that, but the biggest bug for me about the whole thing is, that unlike with Ashley Cole, who knew last May he was leaving how come he never said goodbye then like Ashley did?
How come his reaction was as if he had signed a new deal that was on the table?
Only Frank, Jose and the club know what went on between May & June for Frank to leave, Fabregas' pending arrival maybe?
My take is he wanted two years, got offered only one and was also told he'd playing less & he decided to leave, but to City? How did that ever happen?
The fact of the matter is players leave, they come and go and the club will forever be there.
The saga behind Frank putting on a City shirt and the fact he has only just signed a deal with NYC was news that hit a cord with lots of Chelsea fans, me included, but unlike lots of others I didn't abused, boo or wish bad upon our former players, and furthermore don't care about the politics of football.
What's done is done and we move on, we might not like the outcome but we have to remember the good times and all that Frank achieved with our wonderful club.
Thou the sooner he leaves these shores from City the better.

So, yesterday, the return of the prodigal son, The legend back to his spiritual home, where he had been adorned for so many years, but back with our nearest rivals.
The game itself was perfectly poise for Frank to come on and spoil our party of staying 5pts clear of going further ahead, when he finally came on his reception was mixed, a few boos from some mindless morons with short memories, they were drowned out by a chorus of "Chelsea Chelsea Chelsea", reminding Frank as if he didn't already know where he was, back home, back on the pitch were he was idolised for so many seasons.

Thankfully the game passed without the dreaded winner from Frank & we stayed 5pts clear, we'll settle for that.

At the end of the game, many stayed behind to cheer our team off as we always do, then, in the background was a lonely figure in a pale blue shirt, not the one we were use to seeing him in, and this figure was clapping the Shed End, and slowly was edging along the west stand taking in the applause and thanks, then he arrived in front of the MHL, a stand where he had scored so many important goals, I was thinking to myself about how hurt I was, how he had upset me leaving like he did, then it dawned on me, it was Frank Lampard, Sir Frank Of Lampard, to coin a phrase from Chidge, Leading goal scorer of all time, winner of so many trophies, the man on occasions who had single-handedly saved us, goals v Bolton, cup winners, champions league goals & assist & so much more, how could I not say thank you and pay homage,
and so we did, all 10,644 of us in the Matthew Harding stand, we were standing as one, cheering and calling out his name one last time, the unveiling of his banner above our head a fitting tribute to our Frank. He looked visibly moved by our reaction, & as so many times before in our shirt he thanked us, hands raised above his head clapping, the legend has said goodbye properly
As he walked off I knew what we all did was right, because it was our Frank, a legend, a player that bleeds blue, who I was angry with but like after an argument with a close relative you forgive and make up.

When I saw him after the game I shook his hand before the picture & said "thank you Frank", he turned to me and said, "no, thank you, thank everyone, it was really good to see everyone",
but no, I have to insist, thank you Frank, thanks for everything, 211 goals, numerous trophies and being at our club during our greatest years, I'll leave you with these words from journalist Henry Winter: after Franks reception away at Man City:
"Chelsea fans have done this before, saluting an old friend dressed in the clothes of a foe. They lauded Didier Drogba when he returned to the Bridge with Galatasaray. They chanted the name of Gianfranco Zola when he was manager at West Ham. They praised Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink when he scored against them for Charlton Athletic in 2006. Chelsea fans don’t forget."

You can now add Franks name to that list, see you on our bench in your coaching gear in years to come Frank, till then goodbye & once again thank you:

The vital matchup at the Bridge
Well, we’re here folks: the big one. So big, in fact, that this match will apparently set a new broadcasting record. According to the official site, an estimated amount of 650 million homes in 175 countries will have access to this match. This also includes a new record of 26 Premier League rights holders being present at the match to beam it all around the world. As many may recall, the derby of all derbies in April of 2012 (the 1-0 win over United en route to the title) set the previous record… and that was a ‘mere’ 19 total rights holders at that one. Simply staggering.
Anyways, as such, the match will be found live virtually everywhere. In the UK it’s on Sky Sports 1 and Sky Go Extra. Stateside it’s on NBC (‘the’ NBC, not NBCSN. That’s right, we’re a big deal.) and Premier League Live Extra. And in Australia it’s on Fox Sports 4 Australia. Full global listings found here.
On to the lineups:

Only one real oddity of note. And that’s Sagna in for Zaba. Perhaps Zaba’s poor record against Hazard is the reason for this? Otherwise the lineup is not too surprising, and the bench is strong.
Chelsea’s lineup is what one would expect with their injuries and suspensions, except for Kurt Zouma stepping in for Gary Cahill. This is a bold move by Mourinho who typically rolls out the same starting XI so long as the ‘campaign’ is rolling along smoothly. Let’s hope it backfires. Loic Remy gets the start over Didier Drogba, too.
Thoughts on the match? How are we feeling about Navas? Late Lampard winner? Comment away…

Diego Costa Loses FA Appeal, Will Miss Manchester City Match
Just in time for Manchester City's massive clash with the Premier League leaders, the FA has found Chelsea striker Diego Costa guilty of violent conduct during Chelsea's midweek League Cup match with Liverpool. Costa will be banned for three matches, including tomorrow's showdown at Stamford Bridge.
According to the FA, an independent regulatory commission upheld the ruling against Costa, which was the result of Costa stomping on the leg of Liverpool's Emre Can in Tuesday's League Cup semifinal.
Chelsea will also be without star midfielder Cesc Fabregas, who exited that same League Cup tie with a hamstring injury. While it's no secret that Chelsea have a host of weapons beyond Costa and Fabregas, it can't possibly hurt City to see their Saturday adversaries weakened heading into the most important match of the season thus far.
It appears that Didier Drogba will start for Chelsea in place of Costa. While the 36 year old certainly doesn't boast the same accomplishments as Costa this season, he is still a threat for a Chelsea team replete with attacking talent. Given City's struggles at the back in recent weeks, Manuel Pellegrini's boys have a lot of work to do regardless of the squad Chelsea put onto the field.

Brilliant but temperamental STARS...

Costa is Suarez's natural heir: When biting, diving, brilliant Luis Suarez departed for Barcelona, the #PremierLeague had a vacancy for a bad-boy striker to be revered and detested in equal measures.

After a successful six-month probation period, you can safely say #DiegoCosta has landed himself the job.

Chelsea's centre forward has been the single-most newsworthy player of the season. Just like Suarez, and Eric Cantona before him, sports editors can rely on at least 50 back-page splash stories a season from Costa.

Chelsea's 1-0 win against #Liverpool on Tuesday night to book a place in the Capital One Cup final at Wembley was virtually a footnote alongside the #DiegoCosta show.

In terms of having the emotions stirred, it was like having #Suarez back. Everything Costa does is tinged with controversy, and of course he can play too.

Jose Mourinho won't care, of course. He bought Costa from Atletico Madrid not for his silky technical skills but for his goalscoring ability and refusal to back away from a fight.

Born in Brazil and honed in Spain, Costa has strength and power, and uses it.

He ignored the common consensus that it takes time for outsiders to adjust to the Premier League and banged in seven goals in his first four games, leaving Mourinho to make favourable comparisons with Didier Drogba, a genuine club legend.
