HOME OF INFORMATION AND NEWS: Lionel Messi beat Gerd Muller's all-time record of 85 goals in a calender year.
After a goalless first-half, Messi scored his 81st and 82nd goals of the year in quick succession. Andres Iniesta provided assists for Lionel Messi's quickfire double before scoring his own and playing in Cesc Fabregas for a fourth as Barcelona ran riot in a devastating 18-minute spell at the ...

There has been too much talk about how Arsenal beat odds and went on an long unbeaten run to finish 4th and deservedly. They do this every year and they have the proved in the last few years to finish the season better than other teams vying for the elusive champs league spot. Spurs are chokers and falter every year and Chelsea got lucky this term they finished above us

I'm just tired of these sort of remarks. Make no mistake, I'm a gooner for life and want us to be top of the table all the time but will also support during adversities. What I cannot fathom is why we repeat mistakes over and over and over. In discussions with fellow Arsenal community members at the beginning of this season, I remarked on lack of depth in our squad to be a biggest problem. Not having even 2 "Quality" players for every position. We can at best muster a good 11 from the current squad but can the 11 players play efficiently and effectively all of the 58 games ?? The answer is a big "NO". When we lost players last summer, the board assured that we do not want to repeat the mistakes of the 2011-12 season and therefore went ahead and recruited poldi, santi and giroud early on. But, hold it right there - We already had a depleted, out of depth squad last year. So we did not get reinforcements to full capacity but only got couple of players when we needed to replace 5 quality players - Song, RVP, Cesc, Nasri and Clichy. When all of us were ridiculing SAF's decision to buy RVP when he already had 3 frontline strikers + a decent midfield (on paper, we had the better MF), they went on win the league and win it in style. Look at the injuries Man Utd have had all season, they still had depth in their squad to win - that's example enough for me to explain that we lack depth in our squad. Hell, Wenger said it was because of Coquelin that he did not replace Song - how many games did he play ? You don’t expect him to kick-ass from the first game but he should get game time or the least, he should've been sent on loan to get more time. Likewise with many other players in the fringes

To where I started this post, the reason why we finish strong every season is because we do not play in any other competition except the Premier League after January. That translates to 1 game per week. This gives our strong 11 time to rest, regroup and battle, that's right battle because we dint have a squad to compete in all cups in the early part of the season and now we are on the brink of not even making it to champs league.

Think about it, last season was the same story - we were out of all cup competitions before February - gave us a platform to finish strong. Dejavu, this season

Now, I expect a of a lot of fringe players to leave this summer. The only way for us to get competitive is if we have atleast 2 quality players for every position. The only position which has 2 quality players today in the left back - where we have 2 first team players competing. We need that in every position to win the league and other competitions next season or the one after or the one after

Hope Wenger, Gazidis and the other thinkers of Arsenal Football club realise this and get their act together so we dreamers can smile :)

Nothing can stop Barça in the league this season. Tito Vilanova’s men chalked up another win at the Camp Nou tonight, seeing off Valladolid in what proved to be quite a tricky game. The game was a tester physically, played in the pouring rain, and mentally with the title already won, but Barça did the job and took a two goal lead into the break – thanks to a Pedro strike and an own goal from Marc Valiente. Valladolid managed to pull a goal back from the penalty spot late on but nothing was going to stop Barça from celebrating the title in front of the Camp Nou faithful with a win, despite the rain and cold.

The team maintained their bid for 100 points then, with just Espanyol and Malaga standing between them and that fantastic total.

Xavi and Pedro make the opener

Barça needed to a little time to settle into the game – though they dominated possession from the off – but once they clicked the game became something of a monologue, with Villa looking sharp up front. Xavi and Pedro combined to open the scoring on 21 minutes, when the Catalan midfielder pounced on a lost ball from Rueda to release Pedro, who drove his shot low past the keeper.

Valiente own goal

Sergio, Iniesta, Xavi and Cesc upped the tempo in the centre of the pitch and only a lack of finishing kept the score at 1-0 until ex-Barça man Marc Valiente was unlucky to misclear from a corner just before half time and put through his own net. Two up at the break and it looked as if Barça were on course for a bigger score.

Barça come close to making it three

Barça came out looking for more goals and Valladolid were unable to threaten Valdes – making his 400th appearance for the Club – with the result never really looking in doubt. Barça probed the visitors defence and Xavi, Pedro and Cesc all came close to making it three. Tito brought on Thiago, Dos Santos and Tello late on and Villa and Pedro both had chances to increase the lead.

Penalty for Valladolid

However, it was Valladolid who ended up getting the only goal of the half, as Montoya fouled Manucho in the box and Victor Perez hit home the penalty. There was still plenty to celebrate though, as the rain stopped and the fans began to prepare for the post match party to honour the new League Champions.
