                               Valencia CF vs Levante
                           Date: 02.03.2013; 22:00 CET

Valencia CF is coming to this match after a hard fought draw in the last league match against Real Zaragoza, managing to come back from behind after the team went down 2-0 and manage to secure a very important draw, even though there was a chance to win as well, ultimately 2-2 draw was a good and fair result.

Tonight against UD Levante the team is going to look to get a better result and that means a win, which would enable Valencia CF to escape Levante and few other clubs that are close behind Valencia CF and possibly even reach 4th place, of course if Malaga looses, which as of late they haven't been performing to the best of their ability.

This is a very important match as it is a city derby and both clubs have been fierce rivals, because both are the region Valencia CF and Levante has always been sort of the second club and now with them in the first division for couple of years now and even challenging Valencia CF it has turned into a big rivalry between the  clubs.

Valencia CF is going into this match without Adil Rami and Ricardo Costa who are both injured, although Ricardo Costa is said to be ready for the match against PSG in the champions league. Ever Banega and Aly Cissokho are suspended though due to yellow cards and so after a longer period both Jonathas Viera and Antonio Barragan are joining the squad.

With the PSG match also just several days away the coach may also want to keep some of the players fresh, so we may see Soldado on the bench and I believe the coach is going to choose Guaita to be on goal, so that Diego plays in the Champions League, since the last match against PSG Guaita was rather poor.

Valencia CF squad:
Goalkeepers: Diego Alves, Vicent Guaita.
Defense:  Joao Pereira, Antonio Barragán, Víctor Ruiz, Jeremy Mathieu.
Midfield: David Albelda, Tino Costa, Daniel Parejo, Jonathan Viera, Sofiane Feghouli, Juan Bernat, Pablo Piatti, Andres Guardado.
Forward:  Jonas Goncalves, Sergio Canales, Nelson Haedo Valdez, Roberto Soldado.

Technical Details Valencia CF (probable setups):
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Line-up: Guaita; Joao, Ruiz, Mathieu, Guardado; Albelda, Tino Costa, Parejo; Piatti, Valdez; Jonas.

                 Rami strike halves PSG advantage

A late Adil Rami goal has given Valencia hope for the second leg after all had seemed lost following efforts from Ezequiel Lavezzi and Javier Pastore.

Paris Saint-Germain FC took a firm grip on this UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie with an away victory against Valencia CF.

First-half goals from Ezequiel Lavezzi and Javier Pastore were no more than Carlo Ancelotti's team deserved for a vivacious, confident performance, but Adil Rami clipped in a late consolation to give the Liga side hope going into the return leg on 6 March.

Mounting a fightback at the Parc des Princes looks a daunting task for the Blanquinegros, yet PSG will be without Zlatan Ibrahimović – sent off for an added-time challenge on Andrés Guardado – and Marco Verratti, who was booked in the first period.

It was rare when the visitors did not appear quicker, firmer, more full of ideas and brimming with belief in comparison with Valencia. Ernesto Valverde will be reassured that his team probed and pressed to try and haul their way back into the contest. Particularly through Guardado, used as a flying wing back down the left, Valencia sought to pinpoint their leader, Roberto Soldado, but they had reckoned without Mamadou Sakho. Block after block from the defender dulled Valencia's cutting edge.

Meanwhile, Lucas, Pastore and Lavezzi buzzed with energy. The first goal, after ten minutes, had a massive impact. Lucas had already cracked a fizzing drive off a post by the time Pastore's perfect wall-pass reconnected with Lavezzi and the Argentinian international dispatched the ball past Vicente Guaita. He could easily have had another from a Pastore cut-back, but Valencia's overworked goalkeeper managed a low save.

Before the advantage was increased Lucas gave another clear indication that this was PSG's night. Picking up a rebound near the edge of his own penalty area following a fierce Jonas shot, he outsprinted three Valencia players before forcing a good stop from Guaita.

Then, as half-time approached, another classy strike sucked the wind out of Valencia's sails. Again Lucas was instrumental. He twisted and turned Guardado and centred. Rami anticipated incorrectly, stepping the wrong way; Ricardo Costa and Daniel Parejo left too much space and Pastore stood one pace back to score with venom.

The introduction of Sergio Canales and Nelson Valdez in the second half added some invention and energy but, again, the French league leaders imposed themselves. Lavezzi sliced wide a clear chance, chipped the ball into Guaita's hands moments later in a one-on-one situation, and then interchanged passes with Ibrahimović to send the Sweden captain in on goal – but to no avail.

A third goal was merited, but in the last seconds Tino Costa's deep free-kick was volleyed in by Rami and during the tumultuous seconds that followed Ibrahimović was dismissed.

Valencia CF has some really talented players in its squad, but how much are they really worth?

This is a tough process because there are no measurable element, there is no mathematical formula to form the price of a player, its basically how much the club values its own player and at what price is the club willing to sell the player with few more variables.

                         Valencia CF Best Winter Players

Valencia CF ended mid season at a somewhat surprising 9th place on the table this year. Last year the team finished 4th place on the table in the mid season and the team was doing very well back then. This season was different though as club legend Mauricio Pellegrino didn't end up as successful as a coach as he was as a player and was ultimately sacked after two terrible consecutive defeats at the hands of Malaga and Real Sociedad.

The players haven't been performing to their best either, so its going to be much more fun with the awards. First category is the summer transfers and as always I will be looking at the statistics, personal ratings, overall skill, team work and then come to a conclusions.

Best summer signing
Best summer signing nominations for the award are: Joao Pereira, Nelson Valdez and Aly Cissokho.

Joao Pereira transferred from Sporting Lisbon for a transfer fee of 3.5 million euros in what was supposed to be a long term solution to our right back problems. Joao Pereira didn't disappoint and fitted in immediately at Valencia CF. Since his arrival he has featured in most of the matches and has been very secure at the back and threatening on the offense. In fact he has the second highest ranking in my player ratings with 6.11 score, just bellow Roberto Soldado.

Nelson Valdez wasn't met with much excitement by Valencia fans and his previous low scoring record in other clubs was weighing down on him. Since his arrival though he has impressed with his performances, which have been characterized with fighting spirit and lots of running. Even though he's featured sparsely as Soldado has been the undisputed started, he's managed to score 3 goals in La Liga and one in the Champions League. But what put him ahead of other players was his commitment and humbleness which is something some other players lack.

Aly Cissokho fought off Andres Guardado mostly in the nomination as he has contributed more than Andres Guardado and has been more consistent, while Guardado has been largely ineffective in attack which is why he was brought in and not as a left back. Cissokho barely had time to adopt and with no Spanish understanding as well was instantly put into action as Mathieu has been injured for most of this season. Even with his lack of adaptation and no understanding of Spanish, he was able to perform admirably and most importantly consistently and has a score of 5.88 in my rating which is significant.

The best summer signing for Valencia CF is Joao Pereira.
He came in as as the cheaper option out of a variety of options for right back and wasn't the first choice for the sporting director, nor the fans favorite, but has turned out to be the right option as we've seen Mathieu Debuchy and Gregory Van der Wiel struggling this season, while Joao Pereira has excelled at Valencia CF. Him winning this prestigious award awarded by me was uncontested as he really hasn't had a strong competition and Gago who might have been a decent competition has been a terrible professional and no amount of skill can overcome that.
So there you have it, Joao Pereira the winner of the best summer signing award.

Best Valencia CF player mid season
Best Valencia CF player nominations are: Joao Pereira, Roberto Soldado, Tino Costa.

Joao Pereira as I wrote and already won the best summer signing award has been in terrific form for Valencia CF and while he had some smaller defensive problems initially, he quickly ironed out those and has been solid at the back and going forward. He's been quick to track back from attack and quick to go forward and support the wingers on the right. His crosses have also been very accurate and has had good amount of penetration on that right flank. He has also been an outstanding professional, working hard and not making any problems at all.

Roberto Soldado has been a frequent nomination in these awards and has actually featured as a nomination in all my awards, winning the best summer signing of 2010/11 summer awards. Since his arrival in Valencia CF he has been one of their key players and has since rejected a big money offer from Tottenham and has committed his future to Valencia CF. Roberto Soldado is currently the biggest name in Valencia CF and is generally considered one of the best players at the team, but also one of the best strikers in Europe. This season he had a slow start and a period of drought, but has rediscovered his form and went on to score 9 times in the Spanish League and 4 times in the Champions League. He is right now also the highest rated player on my ratings with 6.20 rating.

Alberto 'Tino' Costa isn't the obvious choice for this award as he doesn't boast the best assist or goals statistics and isn't the most talented and technical player, not even one to make a difference in thigh matches, but he has been very consistent, very hard working and has chipped in with few assists and goals as well, helping the team win some important matches. In fact he is actually tied for first place with 4 assists with Jonas in La Liga, 1 goal in La Liga and 1 assist in the Champions League. His corner kicks and free kicks are also often dangerous, creating quite a few chances for the team through them. Overall this seasons lack of competition has helped him to this nomination and he just edged out Adil Rami due the the Frenchmen's very poor start and occasional big lapses of focus.

The best Valencia CF player for this winter awards is: Roberto Soldado
While Soldado's two competitors for this winter award have done very well, Joao Pereira even winning the best summer signing, Roberto Soldado has been leaps and bounds the better player so far this season. While Valencia CF can play without Joao Pereira and Tino Costa, playing without Soldado has proven difficult and neither Jonas nor Valdez can quite replicate his goalscoring and fast paced runs into the oppositions penalty areas. Roberto Soldado has scored 9 goals this season in La Liga and scored 4 goals and provided 1 assist in the Champions League. The fact that at times he's had a complete lack of service and still managed to score as many goals is proof more than he is a great striker. His international performances for Spain have also been great this year, fighting off competition from Negredo and Torres. Soldado is also currently the top rated player in my ratings with 6.20 rating so far this season.

Revelation of the season: None
I haven't been impressed with any of the younger players and potential stars and we haven't seen something extraordinary out of the older players, so at least for me there hasn't been any revelations.
Biggest disappointment of the season: Fernando Gago
I'm still hopeful for Fernando Gago, but with his mixed performances, constant injuries, unprofessionalism and primadona acting he's been the biggest disappointment so far.
Worst player of the season: Daniel Parejo
While Daniel Parejo has been improving and has actually had few very good appearances recently, overall he's been poor this season and just like last season bellow his expectations and price tag. In fact he was so bad at the start of the season that people just couldn't stand him playing and there was no alternative at the time as all other midfielders were injured. So even though he's improved and played few good matches, out of all the players he's been the worst and needs to prove himself.

Valencia survive late BATE scare to prosper.

Mauricio Pellegrino's side shipped two late goals yet still had enough to see off the Belarusian champions and climb to second place in Group F.

Valencia CF eased past FC BATE Borisov 4-2 for a vital UEFA Champions League win which looked as if it would be more clear cut.

Goals from Jonas and Roberto Soldado plus a second-half brace from Sofiane Feghouli reflected Valencia's overall dominance – and set up a tantalising matchday five showdown with Group F leaders FC Bayern München. But two BATE replies in the second period, from Renan Bressan and Dmitri Mozolevski, will have annoyed home coach Mauricio Pellegrino given the sloppiness involved.

Just as he had been the standout performer in the Spanish side's previous group stage home game, the 2-0 win over LOSC Lille, so Jonas owned the first half here. Even though Viktor Goncharenko's team immediately played with pace and intelligence, clearly seeking a goal rather than striving to contain Valencia, the Brazilian forward was bang on form.

Aly Cissokho's left-wing centre let Soldado tee up his strike partner and Jonas seemed set for an eighth-minute goal but for a well-judged block by Yegor Filipenko. After the last meeting between the sides, BATE's players talked of eliminating "childish mistakes" but in this case it was pure ill fortune that allowed the breakthrough.

Tino Costa sent a long raking pass from the left touchline and while Jonas controlled and turned, it was the fact that Filipenko's attempt to clear bounced back off Jonas's chest that enabled the No7 to lash in a left-footed volley.

One key element of a top-quality team is that they keep their focus, particularly when the opposition drop off. Evidence came with the second goal. Play had barely resumed properly when Valencia pinched the ball and Jonas slotted a fine pass into the path of Andrés Guardado's central run. Artem Radkov brought him down, the referee gave the spot kick and Valencia captain Soldado stroked it into the right-hand panel of Andrei Gorbunov's net with total nonchalance. His skyward salute came in memory of his grandfather who died at the weekend.

It was the cue for a fusillade of flicks, dribbles and lobs at goal which evidenced Valencia at their most confident. So it was no shock when they augmented their lead in the second half. Fernando Gago sprinted forward before dispensing a majestic pass which Feghouli, unmarked, whipped past Gorbunov for 3-0.

With nothing to lose, BATE surged forward and just two minutes after Feghouli's strike a Bressan free-kick, which Maksim Bordachev tried to flick with his head, deceived goalkeeper Vicente Guaita to reduce the deficit. When Gago dallied with seven minutes left he was robbed and Vitali Rodionov fed substitute Mozolevski for an easy goal.

But perhaps justice was done when Éver Banega's lovely late assist let Feghouli restore the two-goal cushion. The result moves Valencia into second position behind Bayern – level on nine points – with BATE three behind in third.

Champions League - Valencia record another comfortable win over BATE.

Champions League Group F, Mestalla - Valencia 4 (Jonas 26, Soldado 29, Feghouli 51, 86) BATE Borisov 2 (Bressan 53, Mozolevski 83)

Valencia eased towards the knock-out stages of the Champions League with a 4-2 home victory over BATE Borisov at the Mestalla.
The victory comes fresh on the back of the reverse fixture which the Spanish side won 3-0 away in Minsk last time out. The result in Valencia, combined with Bayern Munich's 6-1 demolition of Lille, sets up the next game as a play-off for top spot in the group as the Spaniards take on the illustrious Germans.
After a morale boosting victory over high-flying Atletico Madrid in the league at the weekend, Valencia were full of confidence going into this game and were two goals to the good after 30 minutes.
The first goal came after smart work and an emphatic finish by Jonas, although replays showed the Brazilian handled the ball in the build-up.
BATE were quickly two goals down as Roberto Soldado confidently slotted home a penalty into the bottom left-hand corner of Andrei Gorbunov's goal in the 29th minute.
The visitors could again feel hard done by as the initial contact by Artem Radkov on Andrés Guardado for the foul was made just outside the box.
Valencia captain Soldado was lucky to still be on the pitch to take the penalty as in a moment of madness he had earlier appeared to throw a punch into the torso of BATE defender Maksim Bordachev.
The hosts played out the end of the first period at half-pace but came out for the second half looking to kill the game quickly. Their plan seemed to have succeeded when Sofiane Feghouli made it 3-0 after some great work in the middle of the pitch by Fernando Gago.
However, BATE were not quite ready to wave the white flag, as an in-swinging cross from Renan Bressan on the left-hand side of the attacking third evaded everyone and sneaked in under the Valencia keeper, Vicente Guaita, who was distracted by Bordachev.
Rather than take the game to Valencia after the goal, the BATE players began to lose their composure with three players going into the book in rapid succession. The referee's swift action quickly brought the game under control and Valencia looked to see out the tie, adopting their usual keep-ball tactics.
A goal from nowhere in the 83rd minute by BATE's Dmitri Mozolevski briefly gave the visitors a glimmer of a famous comeback but those hopes were soon quashed as Feghouli got his second and gave the scoreline a more balanced reflection of the game as a whole.

Guardado: 'The team is picking up form'.

Midfielder also reflects on personal improvement in press conference.

Andrés Guardado spoke about the evolution of the team in a press conference on Thursday, happy after recent results.

"The morale in the team has changed, we have more positivity around us –although we shouldn’t get carried away either. Things are beginning to take the shape that we want, and what we have done in the last few games is what we want to continue,” he said.

"The team is finding form and we intend to keep things on the up. We have to continue in the same way, in every competition.”

He also noted a personal improvement, since his summer signing for Valencia CF from Deportivo.

"I am gaining confidence in myself, we are all getting to know each other better every time and it is just a question of minutes and confidence. Luckily, I am feeling better.”

"We have to show this every weekend. The season is very long and we still aren’t guaranteed a place in the Champions League knockout stage. We have to continue working in the same way.”< /p>

There is less tension around the team than a week ago, but manager Mauricio Pellegrino is still not taking his foot off the gas, as Guardado explained.

"It’s a new atmosphere, working with the results of the last two games behind us. The manager demands that we continue in the same way, because we still haven’t really achieved anything.”< /p>

Guardado also commented on the switching of position for Tino Costa in the win against BATE Borisov.

"Tino is a hard working player and more defensive. His positioning worked, because we were against a tough team who had beaten Bayern. We took precautions and it worked out well.”

"It’s another option for future games. It worked and we have Tino and Jonas scoring goals. The good thing is that they are being effective again and whoever plays is doing it well.”

Soldado treble inspires Valencia to beat BATE

FC BATE Borisov 0-3 Valencia CF

Roberto Soldado's second UEFA Champions League hat-trick ended BATE's pefect record in Group F, enabling the visitors to join them on six points.

A hat-trick from Roberto Soldado fired Valencia CF to their second UEFA Champions League victory of the season and brought an emphatic end to FC BATE Borisov's perfect Group F record.

Soldado put the visitors ahead from the spot on the cusp of half-time and, moments after the hosts had been denied an equaliser, doubled the Liga side's lead with a 55th-minute volley. He completed his second treble in Europe's premier club competition midway through the half as BATE, victors against FC Bayern München on matchday two, were brought crashing back down to earth.

Like the Spain team that defeated Belarus 4-0 in a FIFA World Cup qualifier at the Dinamo Stadion 11 days ago, Valencia were soon monopolising possession. Soldado drew an instinctive save out of Andrei Gorbunov from David Albelda's measured pass down the side of the BATE defence.

Anything the Valencia captain could do, Aleksandr Hleb was able to replicate, though. Within minutes of that initial chance, the former FC Barcelona playmaker dissected the Mestalla outfit's back line. Ricardo Costa, covering round, slid in to clear as Vitali Rodionov prepared to profit.

Soldado then wriggled through two challenges and teed up Andrés Guardado, whose weak shot was easily gathered by Gorbunov, before BATE provided Diego Alves with his first involvement.

Aleksandr Pavlov darted his way to the byline and when his cutback was palmed out by the Valencia goalkeeper, Dmitri Likhtarovich was thwarted on the rebound. Five minutes later, Rodionov headed straight at Alves from Maksim Bordachev's left-wing cross.

Just as BATE seemed to be gaining the upper hand, however, Valencia struck. Soldado, a bustling presence up front, was hauled down by Marko Simić, resulting in a penalty which the Spain striker confidently dispatched.

Ten minutes into the second half Soldado doubled his and Valencia's tally as the game turned on a chance at either end. Alves prevented Rodionov from equalising with an outstretched leg and, with BATE cursing their luck, the Blanquinegros swept downfield with devastating consequences. Soldado finished off a counterattack by sumptuously volleying in Guardado's centre.

With Valencia scenting blood, Soldado set up Tino Costa, whose low shot was kept out by Gorbunov, before the same players combined to kill off the hosts' challenge. For BATE this represents a seventh defeat in as many encounters with Spanish opposition. They will hope to halt that run when the sides meet again on 7 November, a match for which Pavlov is suspended after being booked tonight.
