https://plus.google.com/116233988224647599672 Luciano Fidalgo : Adam Nathaniel Yauch was an American rapper, musician, film director, and human rights activist. He ...
Adam Nathaniel Yauch was an American rapper, musician, film director, and human rights activist. He was best known as a founding member of the hip hop group Beastie Boys. He was frequently known by his stage name, MCA, and sometimes worked under the pseudonym Nathanial Hörnblowér.

Yauch founded Oscilloscope Laboratories, an independent film production and distribution company based in New York City. As a Buddhist, he was involved in the Tibetan independence movement and organized the Tibetan Freedom Concert.

Born in Brooklyn, New York City, Adam Yauch was the only child of a social worker and a painter and architect. Yauch had a non-religious upbringing. His father had been raised a Catholic and his mother was Jewish.

Yauch attended Edward R. Murrow High School in Brooklyn's Midwood neighborhood. In high school, he taught himself to play the bass guitar. Yauch formed the Beastie Boys with John Berry, Kate Schellenbach, and Michael Diamond. They played their first show—while still a hardcore punk band in the vein of Reagan Youth—on his 17th birthday. He attended Bard College for two years before dropping out.

The Beastie Boys, having become a hip hop trio, released their first album Licensed to Ill on Def Jam Records when Yauch was 22. Yauch directed many of the Beastie Boys' music videos, often under the pseudonym Nathanial Hörnblowér.

In 2002, Yauch constructed a recording studio in New York City called Oscilloscope Laboratories. He began an independent film distributing company called Oscilloscope Pictures. Yauch directed the 2006 Beastie Boys concert film, Awesome; I Fuckin' Shot That!, although in the DVD extras for the film, the title character in "A Day in the Life of Nathanial Hörnblowér" is played by David Cross. He also directed the 2008 film Gunnin' For That #1 Spot about eight high school basketball prospects at the Boost Mobile Elite 24 Hoops Classic at Rucker Park in Harlem, New York City. Yauch produced Build a Nation, the comeback album from hardcore/punk band Bad Brains. In addition, Oscilloscope Laboratories also distributed Kelly Reichardt's Wendy and Lucy (2008) and Oren Moverman’s The Messenger (2009).

The Beastie Boys had sold 40 million records worldwide by 2010. In April 2012, the group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Yauch was inducted in absentia due to his illness. His bandmates paid tribute to Yauch. A letter from Yauch was read to the crowd.

In 2011, Yauch received the Charles Flint Kellogg Award in Arts and Letters from Bard College, the college he attended for two years. The award is "given in recognition of a significant contribution to the American artistic or literary heritage."

Yauch was a practicing Buddhist. He became an important voice in the Tibetan independence movement. He created the Milarepa Fund, a non-profit organization devoted to Tibetan independence, and organized several benefit concerts to support the cause, including the Tibetan Freedom Concert.

Yauch was also a strong supporter of feminism apologizing for early lyrics which he retroactively deemed offensive. Yauch's verse in the song "Sure Shot" includes the lyrics "I want to say a little something that’s long overdue/ The disrespect to women has got to be through/ To all the mothers and sisters and wives and friends/ I want to offer my love and respect to the end."

In 1995, while attending a speech by the Dalai Lama at Harvard University, he met his wife, Tibetan American Dechen Wangdu. They married in 1998 and had a daughter, Tenzin Losel, the same year.

In 1998, during the MTV Video Music Awards, when receiving the Video Vanguard Award, Yauch took the opportunity to make a statement about America's wars against Muslim countries and prejudice against Muslims and Arabs; this was before the term Islamophobia was in wide circulation. Artist Cihan Kaan wrote an obituary in Al Jazeera that Yauch was "Muslim Americans' hero, and America's personal Jewish Gandhi", judging his plea to be greater for intercultural healing than the music of later anti-war rappers whose lyrics included anti-Americanism and conspiracy theories.

On this day:
At 7th March of 1987, the Beastie Boys became the first rap act to have a No.1 album in the US with their debut album, 'Licensed To Ill.' In 2006, Q magazine placed the album at number 16 in its list of "40 Best Albums of the '80s". In 2012, Slant Magazine listed the album at number 12 on its list of "Best Albums of the 1980s". Eminem said the album was one of his favorites of all time and said it changed hip hop.

The Beastie Boys combined hardcore and hip-hop in a fresh-sounding musical mashup that was danceable, infectious and wickedly funny. By attracting a sizable following of white fans – hardcore-loving teens and party-minded frat kids – with their bratty wit and cunning collages of beats and samples, they broadened the audience for hip-hop, bringing it into the mainstream. Like their fellow New York rappers Run-D.M.C., they ignored the color line dividing rock and rap in the '80s. The Beastie Boys are inextricably associated with the street-smart attitude and urban swagger of New York City, where they were raised.

The roots of the Beastie Boys date back to 1981. Formed as a hardcore quartet, the original lineup comprised Mike D (real name: Michael Diamond), drummer Kate Schellenbach and guitarist John Berry – who’d all belonged to an earlier group called the Young Aborigines – and MCA (Adam Yauch). Their first performance was at Yauch’s 17th birthday party. This lineup recorded an eight-song debut EP, Polly Wog Stew, released in 1982 on the Rat Cage label. It contained their hardcore manifesto “Beastie Boys.” Mike D later revealed that “Beastie” stood for “Boys Entering Anarchistic States Towards Internal Excellence.”

They invited their friend ADROCK (Adam Horowitz), who was in a band called the Young and the Useless, to join when Berry left. The slightly revised foursome cut a 12-inch single, “Cooky Puss”/”Beastie Revolution.” Released in 1983, these comical rants attracted attention and got them gigs. Over the next year, the Beastie Boys evolved from an instrument-thrashing hardcore group to a full-on rap act.

Schellenbach moved on to the group Luscious Jackson, and the surviving Beasties – Mike D, MCA and King Ad-Rock (later shortened to ADROCK) – became a three-man posse of MCs with deejayed accompaniment. A friend of theirs, New York University student Rick Rubin (aka “DJ Double R”) was an early turntablist for the Beastie Boys before becoming a world-renowned record producer and label mogul.

In 1984, Rubin and Russell Simmons launched the Def Jam label, and the Beastie Boys’ next 12-inch single, “Rock Hard,” was among its initial releases. Based on their growing buzz, Madonna tapped the Beastie Boys as the opening act on her spring 1985 'Virgin Tour.' The group’s third 12-inch single, “She’s On It,” was featured in the hip-hop film 'Krush Groove' (1985). The flip side, “Slow and Low,” was given to them by Run-D.M.C., who also tapped the Beastie Boys as a support act (along with LL Cool J and Whodini) on their 1986 'Raising Hell Tour.' It was rap’s first big-budget tour.

The Beastie Boys brashly announced themselves to the world with the full-length 'Licensed to Ill' (1986). A milestone rap-rock release, it contained a feisty statement of purpose (“The New Style”) and the boisterous Gen X anthem “(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (to Party!),” a Top 10 hit. Later described by MCA as “a joke that went too far,” it turned into the party-rock anthem of the '80s. The raucous video they made for the song – intended as nothing more than “a goof,” in MCA’s words - became a staple of MTV, establishing the Beastie Boys as poster boys for rude, obnoxious fun.

There is a sense of genuine discovery, of creating new music, that remains years later, after countless plays, countless misinterpretations, countless rip-off acts, even countless apologies from the Beasties, who seemed guilty by how intoxicating the sound of it is, how it makes beer-soaked hedonism sound like the apogee of human experience. And maybe it is, maybe it isn't, but in either case, Licensed to Ill reigns tall among the greatest records of its time.

https://plus.google.com/116243655914861130483 Sarpri Dawson : The world has lost more than 80 celebrities and famous people in the first 6 months of 2016. Is this...
The world has lost more than 80 celebrities and famous people in the first 6 months of 2016. Is this the worst year ever on record for celebrity deaths?

We are only halfway in, and 6 more months to go til' the end of this sad year. It's has already been a dark, dark year so far. It now seems rare for a week to pass without a significant celebrity death being reported. To name just a few.

Natalie Cole died on the last day of the year December 31, 2015, David Bowie died 2 weeks in the new year on January 10, 2016, actor Alan Rickman died 4 days later on January 14, 2016, musician Maurice White on February 4, 2016, Denise Katrina Matthews, better known as "Vanity," including Prince on April 21, 2016 and the "Greatest" Muhammad Ali on June 3, 2016 a few weeks ago.

"There's an old myth saying, that the rich and the famous always die in threes"

Celebrity deaths that comes in threes to some people is just a eerie superstition that tells people once a famous person dies, so will another and another who will pass away which makes it come in threes.

The myth that famous people die in threes is thought to have started with the deaths of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and the "Big Bopper," who died together in a plane crash in 1959. Behind the "celebrity deaths come in threes" is it a curse, what do you believe?

7 years ago Billy Mays, died on (June 28, 2009), Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett, died on (June 25, 2009), Ed McMahon (June 23, 2009), David Carradine (June 3, 2009), all died closely together and are viewed as being part of a group of threes.

Going back 5 years...there were three more deaths in threes....Dwight Errington Myers, better known as Heavy D (November 8, 2011), Joe Frazier (November 7, 2011), Vesta Williams (September 22, 2011), and Nickolas Ashford (August 22, 2011).

0ver 70 celebrities and famous people died in 2012 starting with Johnny Otis who died on (January 17, 2012,) and Etta James on (January 20, 2012), Otis notably discovered and produced for Etta James and also wrote the hit song "Every Beat of My Heart" which was later used by Gladys Knight and the Pips.

Mathematically speaking, celebrity deaths do not come in threes. Random things tend to cluster in some areas and leave voids in other areas. Thus it is likely that celebrity deaths, however defined, are nothing more than random events. It happens time and time again. Two celebrities die within a couple days, a few weeks of each other and people start holding their breath. "Celebrities always die in threes," they say, post and tweet. "Oh! my God, who’s next?"

The list below is only the most noticeable celebrities, there are others that year who have passed as well.
