IN DEPTH: Yo Soy 132 & the Mexican Presidential Election MEXCIO, JUNE 27- The youth-led "Yo Soy 132" movement is gathering steam and impacting both the presidential race and election coverage in mainstream media.  The movement began in May to dispute charges by presidential forerunner Enrique Peña Nieto and the mainstream media that a group of protesters were paid hecklers and not actually students. 131 students made a video showing their school IDs as proof, which quickly became viral.  This once-obscure movement is now receiving mainstream media coverage and impacting political discourse. The students have employed social media tactics to combat their two main grievances: biased media coverage entrenched with corporate interests and Nieto's PRI party's undemocratic hegemony in Mexican politics.  A primary demand was an open presidential debate broadcast on the internet in real time. Three of the four candidates took part in this June 22 debate, the last before the July 2 election--only Nieto declined, citing partisan bias against him.   Mexican news report a significant decline in Nieto's popularity in the most recent round of polls, though he is still the expected winner.
