However, the sound quality is poor. It's just not good enough for listening music. I happend have Shure Sound Isolating Earphone with bad wires. So I decided to put them together. Notice that the cable length is extended unlike other modifications that just swap the units. This is because the proper way for wearing the Shure earphones is to wrap the earphone cord over the top and down the back of the ear. Tip: to get an idea for what I added notes to see tags at the right. Here’s a guide: * I use MobileMe to keep my calendar, contacts, preferences, and other data in sync. I went without it for 6 months… it is worth the cost. * Screens 1-3 contain my general use apps. * Screens 3-4 contain music creation apps * Screens 5-6 contain my video game apps * Screen 6-7 board game apps (some of which are video games) * The end of screen 7 is trial apps and apps I’m trying out. * I arrange each section alphabetically. I tried one large alpha index but found that the categories help. * The only app I have liked that I do not have installed (because I beat it!) is Flight of The Amazon Queen. If you like Monkey Island or Maniac Mansion try it out. * Some of these will get deleted next time I clean up. I keep games around because my taste and time available to play them changes. * I’ve been making music with just the iPhone, and sometimes using Ableton Live to record and overlay tracks. * I prefer music instrument apps over ones that sequence. * I keep plenty of different music apps on there in case the desire to make that kind of sound strikes me. * I misaligned the last screenshot in Photoshop before closing out and didn’t save my progress. By Kim Tong-hyung Staff Reporter After dragging its heels for months, Korea's telecommunications regulator finally came around and declared WIPI, a local software standard mandated for data-enabled mobile phones, a mistake. The decision will bring an end to the dreadful wait by Korean gadget lovers of iPhone, Apple's latest product to create a global craze, with wireless carriers KTF and SK Telecom allowed to release the handsets next spring. Following a lengthy debate, commissioners of the Korea Communications Commission (KCC) Wednesday agreed to retire the home-made standard specifications on April 1 next year, lifting what had effectively been a trade barrier for foreign electronics makers like Apple and Nokia. ``Mobile-phone operators have been required to use the WIPI mobile platform on their handsets, but considering global industry trends toward the use of general-purpose mobile operating systems, we concluded that there was a need to allow carriers the freedom to decide whether to use WIPI or not,'' said Shin Yong-sub, the director of KCC's policy bureau. ``Consumers will also be able to choose from a wider variety of products and benefit from increased price competition from handset makers,'' he said. Currently, about 86 percent of all mobile phones used in Korea are WIPI-enabled. The KCC had discussed whether to phase out the WIPI requirements over a span of six months or a year, but the suggestion was turned down with commissioners concluding that mobile carriers wouldn't be able to replace their WIPI-based services quickly anyway. There were calls within the KCC to abolish the WIPI requirements immediately on Jan. 1, but the commissioners decided to wait three more months to prevent ``shocking'' the domestic industry, apparently a decision that would soothe Korean electronics makers. The decision to scrap the WIPI requirements is expected to renew competition in the local handset market, which has been dominated by local giants Samsung and LG. Mobile-phone operators had been aggressively engaging with foreign handset makers to diversify their handset offerings. SK Telecom, which controls more than 50 percent of the country's wireless customers, is already offering handsets from Taiwanese maker HTC, and expects to release the iconic Blackberry handsets, produced by Canada's RIM, by the end of the year. The company is also planning to release handsets from Nokia, the world's top mobile-phone maker, during the first half of next year. SK Telecom has confirmed its interest in adding iPhone to its lineup, although the company has been less aggressive than KTF, the runner-up wireless carrier, which has been putting up a stout challenge against its industry rival in the third-generation (3G) market. Both operators are declining to comment on whether they secured a commitment from Apple, and some believe the difficult talks over revenue sharing and handset prices had been a bigger reason for iPhone's delayed debut than the much-maligned WIPI. However, an industry source told The Korea Times that the talks with KTF have been all but finalized, although SK Telecom chief executive Kim Shin-bae recently told reporters that he expects his company to be the first to release iPhone. ``KTF could have released the iPhone in December if it had been allowed to,'' said the source. WIPI, which was imnposed on wireless carriers on April 1, 2005, originally intended to allow interoperability for mobile content providers, who had to redevelop their applications for different carriers that were each using different mobile platforms. WIPI was designed to run both Brew and Java applications, then used by KTF and LG Telecom, respectively, but the software standard was quickly blamed for preventing certain handsets from entering the local market, with foreign makers reluctant to release WIPI-enabled products just for Korea. Industry analysts believe the increased influx of foreign handsets may strengthen the dominance of SK Telecom and KTF. But as phone technologies advance, this regulation has become a stiff trade barrier for foreign makers who think it is not cost-efficient to redesign their products only for the South Korean market. ``Why is this country blocking import of foreign-made cell phones while it is allowing import of foreign beef, which should be stopped?'' a citizen said on Cetizen, the largest mobile phone community on the Internet. Most other comments were gripes about the government's protective telecom policies. Several phone companies such as Nokia and RIM ― the maker of Blackberry smartphone _ have tried to lobby the Korean government to abolish the WIPI requirement and let them sell phones of their own design, but they have not succeeded. Only RIM managed to get a partial approval for the sale of Blackberry phones for business users from July. The Korea Communications Commission eased the regulation last month as a token of hospitality as it is inviting RIM's CEO Jim Balsillie to Seoul for the OECD Ministerial Meeting next week, an official at Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency said. KTF, the second largest mobile service operator in Korea, has been trying to sell iPhone in Korea. KTF's public relations official Lee Youn-joo said that there has been no advancement in their talks with Apple. Yesterday I used an iPhone cut out for my 365 Day shot. At first, we weren't planning to get one right away. But this morning we finally succumbed to the hype. Since my wife needed a new phone more than I did, we decided she should get the iPhone this round. So we went to the Apple Store in Emeryville near Pixar's headquarters. There was a line of about 30 people at 8:45am this morning. The store opened about an hour early at 9:00am and we walked out with an 8 gig iPhone to compliment our collection of 5 iPods.
