Rooty Hill RSL to host Everton Gala Dinner with special guest, Tim Cahill

Charity fundraiser in support of the Tim Cahill Cancer Fund for Children

Sydney, Australia, July 6 2010 – Rooty Hill RSL, largest RSL in New South Wales and leading Australian club, will host the highly exclusive Everton Gala Dinner charity fundraiser in support of the Tim Cahill Cancer Fund for Children. Headlined by special guest, Australian Socceroo and Everton midfielder, Tim Cahill, the event will be held on Thursday, 8 July 2010 from 6.30pm.

Established by Tim Cahill in 2009, the Tim Cahill Cancer Fund for Children supports Cancer Council NSW’s children’s cancer research, support and information services, as well as prevention campaigns. Everton Football Club is right behind team mate Tim’s personal charity cause, which aims to raise $500,000 in its first two years.

As the key sponsor for the event with 100% of the proceeds going to the Tim Cahill Cancer Fund for Children, Rooty Hill RSL will present guests with a sumptuous three course meal, as well as offering the community, corporate sponsors, and soccer fanatics the opportunity to be amongst the first to meet the Everton players and bid for exclusive team memorabilia in a silent auction.

The fund has raised more than $200,000 in its first year and the fundraising target for the Everton Gala Dinner is $100,000. Rooty Hill RSL and Cancer Council NSW are calling for corporate sponsorships and inviting the community to take advantage of the chance to mingle with Tim and the team – this is a first for the community and Rooty Hill RSL to host such an exclusive event featuring elite sportsmen.

Fox Sports news presenter and personality Lee Furlong will be emcee for the evening, along with entertainment by recognised magician Matt Hollywood. Furthermore, confirmed special guests include Everton coach David Moyes with the Everton team, with more personalities to be confirmed.

Tim Cahill and the Everton team will be travelling from Sydney City to Rooty Hill RSL by coach, accompanied by NSW Police escorts and four Harley Davidson riders – escorts are donating their time as part of the charity to ensure all arrive safely and on time in Sydney’s afternoon peak hour traffic.

Tickets to the Everton Gala Dinner charity fundraiser at Rooty Hill RSL are $200 per person or $2,000 for a table of ten. Corporate sponsorships are also available for $5,500 which includes a table of ten, logo recognition and a donation of $3,500 to the Tim Cahill Cancer Fund for Children. The panel will be available to answer questions regarding the charity event, as well as Tim’s role in building awareness of children’s cancer, raising funds and supporting Cancer Council NSW.

For enquiries or to make a booking, contact Rooty Hill RSL on 02 9625 5500 or visit www.rootyhillrsl.com.au .

My first trip to Goodison in several years, and also the first time I've been in the ground to see the blues win in an awfully long time. It wasn't the greatest game, but thanks to the general ineptitude of Sheffield United, a fortuitous penalty decision and a push in the box that the ref missed that cleared the way for Mikel Arteta to head home, we won 2-0.

I'd somehow scored some seats down in the front row on the Bullens Road side of the ground, so we had a perfect view of both Everton goals.

The game was only slightly marred by the fact that the heavens opened as soon as we stepped outside the ground and I got soaked walking down to the train station to head to Liverpool to meet up with the girls (who'd perhaps wisely opted for a day of shopping) only to find out that the trains had all been cancelled. As we tried to find a bus, or a taxi, the rain eased, the sun reappeared, and the sky was filled with a perfect rainbow. I would have tried to capture it, but I didn't think my camera had a wide enough lens to fit it all in.

There was no pot of gold at the end; only the number 56 bus to Lime Street.
