Promo:

Set in Middle-earth 60 years before The Lord of the Rings, the adventure follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug.

Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of 13 dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakenshield. Their journey will take them into the wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Sorcerers.

Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain, first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever…Gollum.

Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of ingenuity and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum’s “precious” ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities… A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.

Ian McKellen returns as Gandalf the Grey, the character he played in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, with Martin Freeman in the central role of Bilbo Baggins, and Richard Armitage as Thorin Oakenshield.

Also reprising their roles from The Lord of the Rings in The Hobbit trilogy are: Cate Blanchett as Galadriel; Ian Holm as the elder Bilbo; Christopher Lee as Saruman; Hugo Weaving as Elrond; Elijah Wood as Frodo; and Andy Serkis as Gollum.

The international ensemble cast of the trilogy also includes Manu Bennett, Jed Brophy, Adam Brown, John Callen, Mark Hadlow, Peter Hambleton, Barry Humphries, Stephen Hunter, William Kircher, Sylvester McCoy, Bret McKenzie, Graham McTavish, James Nesbitt, Dean O’Gorman, Conan Stevens, Ken Stott and Aidan Turner.

The screenplay for “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” is by Fran Walsh & Philippa Boyens & Peter Jackson & Guillermo del Toro. Jackson is also producing the film, together with Carolynne Cunningham, Zane Weiner and Fran Walsh. The executive producers are Alan Horn, Toby Emmerich, Ken Kamins and Carolyn Blackwood, with Boyens and Eileen Moran serving as co-producers.

Storyline:

Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakenshield. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers. Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever ... Gollum. Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of guile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum's "precious" ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities

A younger and more reluctant Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins, sets out on a "unexpected journey" to the Lonely Mountain with a spirited group of Dwarves to reclaim a their stolen mountain home from a dragon named Smaug.

Summary: Many entertainment commentators including the Media Man agency think that 'The Hobbit' may be one of the best and most popular movies in Australia for 2012, despite the late release in the year. One for the whole family, and both casual and die hard fans should love it.

Special thanks to everyone who helped make tonight such a big success. See you at the movies again soon.

Director: Peter Jackson
Writers: Fran Walsh (screenplay), Philippa Boyens (screenplay), Guillermo del Toro, Peter Jackson
Actors: Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, Richard Armitrage, Andy Serkis (Voice), Cate Blanchett, Hugo Weaving

my reply to: www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/opinion/why-stephanie-rice...

Stephanie Rice was accused of being 'overtly provocative' ("Why Rice Can Never Win", ST 15/1) in photo shoots and Facebook pictures, as well as tweeting offensive comments. This was apparently the reason to why she cannot win over the Australian public. I was quite annoyed at ‘Australia’s’ conservatively viewed comments on a rather ‘tame’ girl. If you spent five minutes on a teenager’s Facebook or Twitter page you would find quite repulsive comments. As well as albums full of REAL 'overtly provocative' photographs with a lot more skin, and body parts, showing than in Rice’s ‘sexy cop uniform’ photograph. I have not seen one thing that would turn me off cheering Rice on to win gold for Australia, and I'm sure many others would feel the same.

I also do not agree with telling Rice to 'tone it down'. With an ‘overall goddess vibe’, why should she be told to hide her beauty? She is obviously confident with her not-too-thin and not-too-thick figure, and I think that’s great. And remember, she is a swimmer for goodness sake! Rice’s inevitably going to have a great body and lives in a pair of swimmers, so of course where going to see skin.

I think the older generation of Australians hold extremely high standards for the young people of today. Times have changed, and they need to change with it. Not even the royal family is without its scandals. Rice is a perfect example of a quiet, normal girl of the 21st Century; nowhere near being one of those party girls you see stumbling around drunk on the news. We need to show respect for Rice, not condemn her on trivial things.

- just my opinion, comments are always welcome!

It was late in the evening, I had only just managed to swallow my last piece of leather-like angus steak when Aaron, a new acquaintance warned of the 3-hour parking limit there at the Portside Wharf in Hamilton. Little did I know that a few minutes later I was about to stand next to one of my heroes.
The car was good, I did not find any markings on it nor a ticket to say I've overparked. But to be safe, I reparked on a different spot. Strangely, it took me longer than usual to get the car straight in. A little embarrassed, I got out of the car. I was relieved to find no one watching and managed to find my way back to the elevator. I should have pressed G to get back to the ground level but suddenly remembered that there was a viewing deck at the top level and so I went up there to check out the view. No luck, the door was locked. Decided to take the stairs down instead of the lift.
So on my way down the stairs, passing Sono (a rather fancy Japanese restaurant at the Wharf), I heard some giggles and I looked up to see who, and there she was.
Not very long ago, at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, she had won 3 gold medals for Australia, each in world record time, in the 200 m and 400 m individual medleys and in the 4 × 200 metre freestyle relay. A true-blue Aussie champion, a true hero.
Trying not to stare, I turned the other way. She and two other girl friends walked down the stairs passing where I was standing. I followed about three steps behind down the stairs.
Finally, having mustered enough courage, I asked if she was Stephanie eventhough I knew who she was. She smiled and said yes. Then I asked if I could have a photo with her and she said yes again. I was surprised that I didn't crumble at that point.
One of her friends kindly helped take this photo.
And then I watched as they walked away.

Sorry for the low quality of this photo( taken with my mobile phone ).

Thanks for viewing :-)
