The ship was laid down on 7th December 1941 and launched on 24th September 1942 and was the seventh ship to bear this name previously used in 1910. The ship re-commissioned for trials using new design types of shafts and propellers in 1950. Although later refitted and modernised she was never deployed in the active Fleet. We were at a real loss over a present, and Neil suggested making a sock doll. We chose a miniature savage because Gary is boggled by the amount they can eat (hence the fork). I had to work out how to do hair (it would do to read the sock doll book for an easier way - d'oh), make a grass skirt (dark green felt and green crepe paper), and a safety pin through the nose (a roll of sock). savage started life as a complimentary pair of Cathay Pacific socks.
