Today has so far been a perfect day. I woke up in a hotel next to a lovely person, in Banff, after we decided at midnight last night to take a spontaneous trip.

We then went for breakfast, was dropped off at home; then I brought some bubbly wine and expensive macaroons. Now I'm on my way to a dinner party where there will be hand-made cheese and Sidewalk Citizen lemon squares.

I'm going for the most perfect day ever title.

With a cover of "Perfect Day", Cee-Lo Green closed an interesting concert in Antwerp last night.

Cee-Lo is a musical chameleon and only the best artists can afford living different musical lives and continue to be successful.

He first hit the hip-hop scene with Goodie Mob. With his superb "Soul machine" solo album - my favorite up to date - he made the perfect marriage between Soul and Funk. His biggest success so far came in his indie-outfit Gnarls Barkley. With his latest "Lady killer" album Cee-Lo totally went pop. The concert was part of the lady-killer-tour and the all female band played a rocked-up set.

I always think it is a bit of a playback show when no live background vocals are around… but apart from that the night was very entertaining and it was all about Cee-Lo! The man has an inimitable voice, physique, energy and BMI…

I flipped the last part of the show. The sound quality sucks… but I absolutely love the burn out effect on Cee-Lo's bold head. Watch his sweat rain down. The lady-killer had a perfect night.

I've been busy preparing the garden following a few major changes and took a day out to visit Bridgemere here in the UK. It's purported to be the largest garden centre in England and has it's own display gardens of which this is a small part.

The title is inspired by the fantastic BBC video featuring Lou Reed's "Perfect Day" that you can find here www.youtube.com - it really is worth a watch and I only wish that my garden looked this good!!

THERE WERE ninety-seven New York advertising men in the hotel, and, the way they were monopolizing the long-distance lines, the girl in 507 had to wait from noon till almost two-thirty to get her call through. She used the time, though. She read an article in a women's pocket-size magazine, called "Sex Is Fun-or Hell." She washed her comb and brush. She took the spot out of the skirt of her beige suit. She moved the button on her Saks blouse. She tweezed out two freshly surfaced hairs in her mole. "It's such a perfect day, I'm glad I speant it with you".

T and I were married on 15th September 1984 and celebrated our 25th Wedding Anniversary today! A day spent sleeping late, eating breakfast in bed, visiting family and watching our favourite film this evening (Shakespear In Love).

This weeks entry for 52 weeks for dogs. I'm making the most of the warm days and taking outdoor shots whenever I get the chance. It was a lovely morning for a walk and a photo session and all was going well until Taivas spied a dog which I hadn't seen and did her best 'bat out of hell' impression, rushing over barking. The small terrier took exception to her mode of approach but fortunately it was a lot of noise and nothing else. My fault for taking my eyes off the surroundings for a few minutes!
A wide angle shot has been on my ideas list for a while - not really wide as I don't have a specific wide angle lens, but I used the kit lens at its widest. The other contender for this week is below, still wide angle but a 'portrait'. I love the shot but finally decided on 'perfect day' as Taivas looks more contemplative whereas her happy smiley expression below is more like last weeks photo.
I wanted the whole picture in sharp focus so used a narrow aperture - I'm still experimenting with various apertures to see what works well for what. I'm happy with how this one turned out.

f/20, 1/100, iso 400 (yep, forgot to change it again!).

Day 2 A Perfect Day

August 6, 2009 A perfect day for me entails a good dinner (BBQ, check!) a cool breeze (check!), sundown (check!) and watching the girls have a good time playing at the park with my beautiful wife at my side (checkity check!).

At least my day ended that way. We went to get BBQ from Slow Pokes in Hernando and tried to eat it at the park there. It was raining a little bit, but they had covered tables so we thought we'd give it a try anyway. Little did we know that flies can smell food in the rain. There were so many we couldn't eat, so we packed it up and left. Plus the old man in the ladies wig, dangly earrings and a half shirt was making me uneasy. Gross.

So we went to Wallace Brooks park and finished our dinner. The sun was going down and the breeze was cool from the surrounding rains. The grass was freshly cut and not one fly landed on me. (I heard the take a deuce every time they land.)

So it turned out to be a perfect (ending) of a day after all.

Oh, and I got a haircut.

End to a perfect day

It truly was a perfect day. We left my house at 5AM back at 10PM … I took 650 shots – vast majority HDR. We started with fields of tulips , visited “the” barn , that along the Route 20 to breathtaking Deception Pass and Oak Harbor. On the way back we stopped to shoot more flowers as the sky was so much nicer and drove the very picturesque Chuckanut Drive ( with the name like this I was expecting at least few squirrels – I had some peanuts and was ready ti chuck them ). Last images we took in Bellingham – and this is it.

This was the most perfect day I have ever had on the beach.

Perfect weather, perfect landscape, a perfect day.

We drove along the shore of Pukaki lake towards Mt. Cook (Aoraki) and enjoyed the wonderful view of the mountain, which is the highest in New Zealand (3754 m). We used the next day to hike up the Mueler's Hut.
