During the day, one can see tall buildings and busy Victoria Harbor. At night, lit up by colorful lights, the whole scene is dazzling like a fairly-tale world. The best spot to enjoy the scene is the Peak Tower. 25 minutes after this picture was taken, the twilight sky dramatically changed, heavy cloud and darkening sky took us altogether to a different world. The original Shing Mun River began at Needle Hill and flowed into the former Tide Cove (Sha Tin Hoi), a shallow bay. In the 1970's, Tide Cove was drained and turned to Sha Tin New Town. The river was extended through a 7 km long, 200 m wide artificial channel in the middle of the area to flow into Tolo Harbour. Other rivers that had originally flowed into Tide Cove are now tributaries of Shing Mun River or one of its nullahs. The Shing Mun River Channel runs from the Tai Wai area, through the Sha Tin New Town to the Tolo Harbour. It has 3 main tributaries, namely Tai Wai Nullah, Fo Tan Nullah and Siu Lek Yuen Nullah. Along the Shing Mun River are high-rise residential, commercial and industrial buildings with numerous village-type developments scattered around. Several bridges were built to connect the 2 sides of the Shing Mun River. The 4 major bridges are Banyan Bridge (翠榕橋), Dragon Bridge (錦龍橋), Lion Bridge (獅子橋) and Sandmartin Bridge (沙燕橋). Although the river is primarily designed for the drainage of storm water from Sha Tin with a catchment area of 37 sq km, it is also a popular place for anglers, walkers, cyclists and those who engage in water sports such as rowing, canoeing, kayaking and dragon boat racing. This was a great event - some say the event of the year in Hong Kong - and everybody was having a great time. The rugby game itself didn't seem to be that important - having fun was. I also noticed, as I left the venue in the evening, that this is where ALL non-Chinese in Hong Kong go at this time of year. There was a never ending stream of white guys (ok, and some girls) exiting the stadium! My summary of the games played on this, the first of three days of rugby: - Japan lost :( - Team New Zealand were cool and super strong! - Team Hong Kong had amazing support but lost . . . A lot went into getting this photo - we travelled across the river after the Symphony of Lights and got a taxi to the top of the peak which took about 20 minutes. Then we eventually found the Tram which we thought would take us to the top of the peak, not realising we were already at the top, and just needed to go into the Peak Tower Building to get to the viewing platform. So we paid for a single ticket down and ended up back where we got the taxi! I pleeded with the Chinese and they said if we buy another Tram ticket up and tickets for access to the viewing platform then we could come back down without paying for that again. I mean, atleast thats what I think he said so I paid it, hoping for the best. Totally worth it though!!!! The view really was amazing - it was a coldish night and quite hazy, hence the red sky but made everything atmospheric! After returning to the lower Tram station (for the 3rd time), we got a taxi to the Ferry Station which unfortunately was now closed, so had to continue to the Subway to get to the other side of the river again. Then had to get another Taxi to the Hotel. Fun! Please click on the photo once to view Large - it looks better! I'd also like to mention how cheap the taxi's are - it cost the equivalent of £4.50 for a 20 minute journey! The UK charges that for a 4 minute journey! From this angle, it shows some of the tallest buildings in the past few decades. Photo taken in a cloudy & foggy evening from a ferry running from Tsim Sha Tsui on Kowloon side to Wan Chai on the Hong Kong island. By the way, the picture taken by D700 at ISO6400 is quite usable if using the Capture NX to convert the RAW file into JPG with minor touch up. I use the prime 50mm f/1.8 for this shot. It surprisingly renders better color quality and better overall image quality than my 'other' lens in the bag.. One tip for those who plan to go there: It can be much colder and windier at the Peak compare to the city below. So dress wisely if you plan to stay outside taking pictures. IFC, branded as "ifc") is an integrated commercial development on the waterfront of Hong Kong's Central District. A prominent landmark on Hong Kong Island, IFC consists of two skyscrapers, the IFC Mall, and the 55-storey Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong. Tower 2 is the tallest building in Hong Kong, a title formerly held by Central Plaza. It is the third-tallest building in the Greater China region and the seventh-tallest office building in the world, based on structural heights; by roof height, only the Taipei 101, Shanghai World Financial Center, and Willis Tower exceed it. It is of similar height to the former World Trade Center. The International Commerce Centre, currently under construction above the MTR Kowloon station and scheduled for completion in 2010, will surpass 2IFC in each of these categories. I was so excited when I was on top of the peak had a overview of Hong Kong. And I was so lucky there wasn't foggy that day. Because I heard people said, sometimes it will all covered by fog and you can't see anything. However, I was lucky enough the weather was pretty good when i was there... I've actually posted this photo when I first joined flickr.. but my processing skill wasn't good enough and there is date on the photo (Because I didnt know what is Crop about~~~ hahaha). So in this one, I used HDR to enhanced the details, and then used Picasa to do a bit of processing again... and the result came out quite good i think... I don't know how to get rid of the date, so I just cropped it!
