Y si algo habían visto, le llamaban la vieja del bigote, la que no se depilaba, la que era fea... Si, exactamente, la fea... Era yo asidua de ir a pasear por esta casa como una especie de ritual, como inspiración, me daba tranquilidad, al fin pintoras las dos... y me identificaba con la mujer, la artista, no con el morbo que se vende y que gracias a la película de Salma Hayek ahora es conocida en su propia tierra. Qué vergüenza!!! Si, antiguamente la entrada era libre y yo entraba como Pedro por su casa, éramos cuatro gatos, a veces estaba yo sola ahí y he de decir que era todo un lujo, un placer que no hubiera nadie. Ahora voy y veo colas para entrar, por ese morbo que se ha vendido, se cobra la entrada, la visita guiada, la parte dramatizada, hacer fotos, y hacer todo esto, todo juntito, cuesta alrededor de 36 € visitar a la señora Kahlo... Estoy de acuerdo que el museo necesite mantenerse, estoy de acuerdo con que se cobre por la visita, pero no me entusiasma toda esa parte comercial e irracional que gira en torno a una artista, que atrae nada más y nada menos, por el morbo, por haber tenido 57 amantes, por ser bisexual, por haber tenido un accidente, por mil cosas... Ahora está considerada como la pintora más famosa del mundo y yo encantada porque soy su fan número uno! pero sigo sin comprender como en nuestro propio país fuera durante mucho tiempo, la gran desconocida? Diego Rivera, era el 'famoso', el importante, y ahora ha quedado como segundón porque Frida Kahlo le ha opacado... ¿? Le tendremos que dar las gracias a Salma Hayek por haber hecho famosa a nuestra Frida en nuestra propia tierra... Ah! he de decir, que de los cuatro gatos que éramos, probablemente los otros tres eran alemanes, franceses, extranjeros, pero ninguno, de su tierra, exceptuando a vuestra servidora... Frida Kahlo (July 6, 1907 – July 13, 1954) was one of the most remarkable Mexican painters of the indigenous culture of her country in a style combining Realism, Symbolism and Surrealism. She also was a remarkable personality, an active communist supporter, and wife of the Mexican muralist and cubist painter Diego Rivera. Kahlo was noted for her unconventional appearance, declining to remove her facial hair (she had a small mustache and unibrow which she exaggerated in self portraits), and for her flamboyantly styled clothing, drawn largely from traditional Mexican dress. She was half Jewish of German-Hungarian descent, & half Mestizo. Her paintings attracted the attention of fellow artist Diego Rivera, whom she later married. They were often referred to as "The Elephant and the Dove" due to their difference in size (Frida's mother, who did not like Diego, came up with this description of them). When they first married, he was 42, 6 ft 1 in tall, and 300 pounds; she was 22, 5 ft 3 in and 98 pounds. Their marriage was a loving but storming one, largely due to Diego's weakness for extramarital flings. Their notoriously fiery temperaments also played a part in the storminess, and both had numerous extramarital affairs (Frida was outraged when she found that Diego had an affair with her younger sister, Cristina Kahlo). The couple divorced, but remarried in 1940. This remarriage was as turbulent as the first. Frida did not hide from Diego the fact that she was bisexual; Diego tolerated her relationships with women (among them actress Josephine Baker) better than her relationships with men, which made him fiercely jealous. Active Communist sympathizers, Kahlo and Rivera befriended Leon Trotsky as he sought political asylum from Joseph Stalin´s regime in The Soviet Union. Initially, Trotsky lived with Rivera and then at Frida's home depicted in this photo where he and Frida allegedly had an affair. Trotsky and his wife then moved to another house in the same neighborhood of Coyoacán where Trotsky was later assassinated. Sometime after Trotsky's death, Frida denounced her former friend and praised the Soviet Union under Stalin. She spoke favorably of Mao, calling China "the new socialist hope". Kahlo died on July 13, 1954, supposedly of a pulmonary embolism. She had been ill throughout the previous year and had had a leg amputated owing to gangrene. However, an autopsy was never performed and many are convinced she committed suicide. A few days before her death she had written in her diary: "I hope the exit is joyful; and I hope never to return."
