The system is part of the Fajr family of rockets. The latest production of the Fajr-5 is installed on a new 6 × 6 forward control chassis and the platform is now integrated into a complete weapon system rather than an individual launcher. To provide a more stable firing platform four hydraulically operated stabilizers are lowered to the ground before firing. The new chassis has improved cross-country mobility and the forward control fully enclosed cab provides space for the driver and two passengers. Another fully enclosed cabin to the immediate rear of the cab houses the remainder of the crew. The new Mercedes-Benz chassis is similar to that manufactured in China, which is used as the basis for the Norinco (China North Industries Corporation) 122 mm (40-round) Type 90 ARS. While the primary role of this artillery rocket system is the engagement of land targets, AIO says that a radar can be added to give the system the capability to track and engage naval targets. The Fajr-5 missile, which is launched from a mobile platform, reportedly has a range of 75 kilometers (50 mi). Also a two stage version of the rocket is reported to be produced with a length of 9 m and range of 190 km. But this variant is launched from TELs similar to Zelzal missiles which only has the capacity for a single rocket. The first Fajr-5 were created when China exported WS-1 MLRS to Iran in the late 1980s/early 1990s. They were then subsequently created and produced by Iran's Aerospace Industries Organization. In May 2006, Iran's Aerospace Industries Organization (AIO) has developed an upgraded version of the well-established Fajr-5 333 mm (4-round) unguided surface-to-surface artillery rocket system (ARS). Hezbollah reportedly claimed the rocket was a Khaibar-1, a designation that resonates among Shia Muslims (like those in Hezbollah) as a reference to a 7th century battle between early Muslims and Jews. The other day, we decided to watch the sunrise after running around looking for food in downtown to keep suhoor. Ironically, McDonald's was the only place open that we could find food to eat during Ramadan at 3:30 am. We prayed Fajr/Fagr (which, did you know, is prayed differently in Egypt than it is in America? Perhaps it's a different sect in Sunni Islam? Perhaps) at the masgid at Tahrir before jumping in a cab for this undisclosed location. The sunrise was spectacular, straight out of The Lion King. It was a gigantic sun. It took a while to clear the horizon and seep through the smog, but when it did, it looked marvelous. The moon was still out, but I was unable to get a shot of both in the same frame... perhaps I should've stitched a few shots together. Oh well, next time. Sunrises do happen every day, you know. It was my first sunrise ever. I live on the west coast in America and the thing to do is to watch sunsets, not so much sunrises. Although a sunrise overlooking Downtown LA wouldn't be something I'm opposed to watching. That would be quite beautiful too I'm sure. And something strange to note, I know the sun rises in the east and sets in the west and that often times it's a little offcenter, but this sun rose almost directly from the north. And when the command of your Lord comes – and the angels row by row, And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? He will say, “Alas – if only I had sent some good deeds ahead, during my lifetime!” So on that day, no one punishes like He does! And no one binds like He does! O the contented soul!
