If I were taking it again I'd probably take a few steps back so that the structure was just slightly higher than the lampposts. I've used the "Tanglepatterns.com" strings Nos 5-9 and the colours of the five rings. I wanted to try and use patterns that gave a feel for some of the many sports and events that took place. The "scoop" type design in the bottom left (yellow) corner is based on the petals that formed the top of the Olympic flame. The "wheels" in the same corner are a tribute to Sir Chris Hoy and Bradley WIggins our most successful Olympians. I'm a bit disappointed with the piece as it is, so might come back to it after my shoulder's sorted, but I wanted to post it tonight at the end of a fabulous two weeks. I have been asked to keep the details secret. But I can say that its spectacular entertaining and very British. There will be moments when some non-Brits will scratch their heads. A 600,000 sq ft (56,000 m2) village with over 600 units, that was able to accommodate over 2,800 athletes, coaches, and officials. The site, a former industrial area which was previously mostly parking lot, is located on the shoreline at the southeast corner of False Creek, north of 2nd Avenue between Quebec and Manitoba Streets. Just south of Science World, its waterfront is part of the False Creek Seawall promenade and bike route, and is adjacent to the stations of the Granville Island Heritage Railway, the Spyglass Place pedestrian ferry wharf (served by Aquabus and False Creek Ferries), the Science World pedestrian ferry wharf (normally served by Aquabus and False Creek Ferries but closed temporarily from January 25, 2010 to March 24, 2010and the Main Street and Olympic Village SkyTrain stations. This allowed me to compose for a shot allowing me to capture city lights, couldron fire, and building details while keeping the entire photo within the dynamic range of my camera. I didn't want to use HDR, as I am not a fan of the technique. HDR software yields results that are too unnatural to my liking. Shot with a 300mm prime on a pan & tilt head on tripod. If you follow the notes you can see tthe legacy buildings from Expo '86 which are being used for the Vancouver 2010 Olympics: BC Place and Canada Place being the biggest. And I've added some notes to indicate where the new legacy buildings from Vancouver 2010 are. Will the 2010 games be Expo '86 on steroids, as the commercial says? Was tangentially involved in Expo '86, and it certainly wasn't as Corporate and Closed-to-the-Public as the Vancouver 2010 games seem to be. Update: OK, I was wrong. Expo '86 on steroids doesn't even begin to describe the party that the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games generated. Sure, there were blocks of empty seats at venues belonging to various Corporations (which was really annoying) and there was a class system, but regular people had the best party and you wouldn't have wanted to be anywhere else than the streets of downtown Vancouver. First the City announces the route the runner will travel on. The runner takes off from the original spot but then runs into a warehouse. Within minutes the runner is miles away in a separate district of the city and is announced that the course gets "changed". So all of a sudden, 10,000 protesters who have been camping out are now standing in the wrong spot and basically got screwed! ... Gavin Newsom's a Genius. What you're seeing here are hundreds of cops, s.w.a.t. and what might possibly have been a gunship in the air unleashed to protect one set of athletes... Madness!
