I've always been a sucker for odd things like this. In junk shops and "antique" places there will occasionally be an apparently handmade object, put together years ago, that might have been some sort of shop class project. These kinds of things always seem to catch my attention. Especially if they have eyes.

Oh, and grateful acknowledgement to borealnz for the bit of texture I used here.

I seem to be letting the beard just grow unfettered lately, and it's getting white, which makes me look like I do documentaries on life in the antarctic.
There have been very few times in my adult life when I've been without some form of facial hair, though.

But, I hate doing self-portraits. Plus, I look weird without my glasses on.

A hug, a kiss, some unconditional love? Steve said he will be willing to give some today if your needing it, he said he feels that some on flickr are in need of this service. Some are overly stressed (rightly so), some are feeling unloved (rightly so), so are just tired of the same old thing and some are tired of the long, long winter.

#6 Obsessed for the group 100 Things About Me

I am obsessed with my dog--that's right--you all just heard me call Steve a dog--it is not often I do this--he is more then a dog, he is my boy, my heart, my soul. Rarely do I leave home without him and when I do, sometimes (Shh) I call him and leave a message on the answering machine because he can hear me--Ken assures me that Steve is sleeping and never knows I call--I think otherwise :-). If you come to the house my son will generally tell you to not mess with Steve--because should I think your not treating him as he should be treated then you will land on my bad side.

So Steve is a bit (maybe beyond) spoiled. But he a comfort to have around--he gives unconditional love, he knows emotions such as happiness and sorrow in his humans and he tries to give comfort--He will nudge you over and over with his head and baby to get you to play. He likes to rest his chin on your face (mainly Kens) when he feels you have had enough sleep--really no need to over sleep is there? He is a lover of people--if he like's you he will allow you to pet him--if not he will walk away--(ok, so this is embarrassing when were out in public and need to explain why he wont let someone pet him). He helps with the shopping--well not really but he does check all the bags when we get to the car or home to make sure we bought him a baby (can't forget the babies). And for the most part he tolerates me and the ever present camera being in his face--but when he has had enough he has had enough and will turn his back on me--that's it the end, finished, no more photo's until he is ready again. All in all he's a good Fur Kid and I love him = )

It's the simple thing's in life

#1 I can't swallow pills

I have never been well with taking pills. Most of the time I "do not" take them--I try to take them and I gag and choke and spit them up and if they do go down it is like they are forever stuck in my throat!! It is apparently sometimes funny to see as my family loves to make fun of it--I guess that is what family is for. Don't worry--the above pills are just motrin--and most times I have trouble getting these to go down.

100 Things about me

#2 I met William Shatner, Heather Locklear and Adrian Zmed

I know useless info here but at the time it was pretty darn cool and if I remember right many of my friends thought Adrian Zmed was pretty good looking.

T. J. Hooker was a weekly American police drama television program starring William Shatner. The series premiered as a mid-season replacement on March 13, 1982 on ABC-TV and ran on ABC prime time through May 4, 1985. The show starred William Shatner in the title role as the 15-year veteran police sergeant T. J. Hooker. The supporting cast included Adrian Zmed as rookie Officer Vince Romano, Heather Locklear as Officer Stacy Sheridan (season 2 onwards), and Richard Herd as Captain Dennis Sheridan as personnel in the fictional "LCPD" academy precinct. At the start of the show's second season, James Darren became a regular cast member, as Officer Jim Corrigan. Wikipedia

Also using it for #5 Addicted for the group 100 things about me

Yes, I am addicted to Mt Dew--I will drink the regular flavor and I have found this new flavor this summer while in Utah and Vegas--here in Illinois it is still hard to find but I manage to get it. This is usually the first thing I drink in the morning and the last thing at night--I have one almost always with me during the day and will drink it every time we go out--I rarely drink anything else--maybe water every so often but this is the choice of drink for sure.

...that "math class" was 8th-grade pre-algebra.

100 Things About Me:
I despise number-fudging and false-intellectualism.

Ok. So I know this is a scan of a Wendy's bag I tore off after eating there, but I find this sort of thing almost offensive...

Firstly, this is little more than arithmetic, not "math." Even if you didn't know that eight binary choices give you 2^8 (256) combinations -- most people, given 10 minutes and a calculator, could figure this out.

Secondly, since when does "with tomato" and "without tomato" count as 2 "ways to personalize"? I think "the choice of including tomato" is 1 "way to personalize," not two...am I right? In which case it's 8^1 (going through pickles, cheese, etc.). Which is 8, Wendy's.

Not only is 256 a low, easily-arrived-at number, it's (in my opinion) an inflated conclusion...the way it's worded, that should read "8 ways to personalize."
Your self-aggrandizement is nauseating -- and I'm eating here!

For my third (and probably final) 100 list I thought I'd take an interesting look at myself for an image. What you see on the let is plain, old me. That dark circle around my eye? Been that way my whole life. Every day I have to look at myself and see someone much older than I really am, the wrinkles, the glasses, the chronic exhausted appearance from the circles under my eyes (not to mention the white hairs that started coming in at 25!). Thanks, however, to contact lenses, mineral make up, high lights from the salon, good lighting and a hand from Photoshop I can be the person I want to be, although I went a touch heavy on the glow effect up there on my forehead. ; ) I didn't care to redo it, though, as this is merely a partial illustration of the truth, our perceptions, our own reality, and our own minds. God knows if I could change one thing about myself it would be my eyes.
I still say my life is proof that the truth is always funnier and stranger than anything anyone could imagine.
Now, onto the fun...

This is my third 100 list. My first has over 20k views and will be difficult to trump.

I once knew a pet Iguana named Sydney. He was killed by a bolt of lightning.

I still want more tattoos. I know of three; I am running out of real estate I am willing to devote, however, to ink, and now I will have to fly 3000 miles to get my tattoos done.

I read the final Harry Potter book in its entirety the day it came out. I had to take a nap after lunch time, but I still got it all in. I couldn’t wait to see how it ended.

Inexplicably I have turned into a bit of a girly girl as I push 30 (rapidly). Maybe it’s that I’ve finally learned how to take care of myself after years of neglect.

I miss my high school English teacher, Colleen Hill. I would love to have her feedback on my Blender Story.

I have always been drawn to tall, skinny men with dark hair and big noses. Ned in Pushing Daisies. Jeff Goldblum. I even think Allan Rickman is sexy as Snape in the Harry Potter movies. Adrian Brody. Yeah, that’s the type. Henry Rollins is on the list too, although he’s short. He stays for various other reasons.

I feel more like myself every day that passes since January 12, 2006.

I have a crippling, paralyzing, vertigo-inducing fear of heights and bridges. Yet I curiously love roller coasters, and don’t fear flying.

I love the smell in the air just before a big rain storm comes through in the summer.

The news hasn’t been the same for me since Peter Jennings died.

I met and fell in love with a man I met accidentally on flickr.

I am never changing my legal name again.

I got to see Elvis Costello on my 27th birthday. I got to see him again for my 29th birthday, opening for The Police.

If I ever had a kid I would want them to learn sign language and how to swim when they were really little.

I am frantically trying to find the motivation to finish my degree. You’d think my time unemployed would have allowed me to do so, but being unemployed and looking for a job is extremely stressful and the idea of medical terminology on top of that? UGH!

I hate the Cult of Oprah. God forbid a tv personality ever dictates who I vote for, what I buy for Christmas, or how I feel about myself. Shame on those housewives for worshiping her. Shame.

If I never go camping again in my life it will be too soon. Besides, with my luck, if I went camping in Oregon I’d be molested by a Sasquatch.

I had a pet budgie named Cecil when I was little and he could whistle the Bonanza theme song. Now I would feel guilty having a pet bird because I think birds should be free to fly.

Packing is dreadful. I have done it five times in two years.

I believe organized religion is the root of intolerance. But I’m not saying I’m an atheist, either. (Just some days.) But I won’t go to hell, because I think that’s total bullshit.

I had a cat named Spud Tater Piggy Puss Puss. We called him Spot for short.

It took me four years of active searching to find the perfect couch.

I am embarrassed about my birthmark every morning when I face the mirror.

I always tell people I love what I am really thinking and feeling, even when their potential reaction is terrifying.

I am afraid to have to take care of anyone again. But I would.

I want to listen more.

I love me a good drag queen. Always have.

I hated every second of passing through Nebraska. Even the time when we saw the errant camel and the giraffe, it wasn’t enough to make up for how much I just hate Nebraska.

My baby album stops about the age of 2. I don’t know what happened but documentation of my childhood is spotty after that.

Having my tonsils out at 28 wasn’t the worst event of my life, despite horrific warnings from friends and doctors. I’d still only wish it on a few people, but overall I enjoyed sleeping all day for two weeks straight. And I don’t snore anymore. : )

I only started enjoying food in the last few years. I was a picky eater until recently, and that included avoiding things that I now love. Like curry. Part of it was fear, and part of it was fear of my food allergies.

I can’t wait to go from a low G to a high D. Only my closest friends know what I mean.

I’m not graceful.

I can’t wait for my first real vacation with Patrick.

My imagination has been known to get the best of me.

I’ve had two amazing girls’ weekends: one in Vegas with my friend Amy and another in Lubec, Maine with my theatre girlfriends. They couldn’t have been more different in setting and activities, but the memories are just as important and wonderful from each experience.

I hate peanut butter, and in particular, Reese’s Pieces, which are the second-most vile candy in the world behind black licorice. However, I enjoy the miniature peanut butter cups because it’s the perfect chocolate to peanut butter ratio.

I love when I come in the house with the dogs after being outside and Gromit’s fur is all warm from the sun.

There are things I can do for myself that I prefer to pay someone else to do, like oil changes.

I have never been in a wedding aside from my own. When friends get married I usually wind up with the camera.

I tamed a feral cat I found in a dumpster. It took months of patience and cured meats, but it was worth it. She was the best cat ever. She was even toilet trained.

I am lucky enough to have three people in my life I can tell anything to.

I have all the confidence in the world thanks to community theatre. I have poor self esteem thanks to years of abuse and I have days of extremely painful insecurity and feeling like I’m less than.

I picked up a paintbrush and completed a painting for the first time in years the winter of 2008. It felt really great to return to something I love. The painting was a gift, and if I hadn’t had the inclination to do something for someone special I probably wouldn’t have dug out my paints.

I dropped my pink cell phone in a toilet. That was the end of that.

I love warm yellow cake, even without frosting.

I was nominated for Best Actress in a Musical for playing Rosie Alvarez in Bye Bye Birdie last year. I won. : )

I have bad joints and chronic pain. I try not to whine about it but sometimes I can’t help myself.

I threw a party in my backyard in the summer of 2007 complete with a bonfire. It was a mini high school reunion, only full of the people who wouldn’t go NEAR a reunion if you paid them. It was probably way more fun than our ten year would have been anyway, and a spontaneous drum circle erupted. I’m still not sure how I feel about that portion of the evening.

I have a knack for making strange friends in strange ways and despite how confident I was starting over wouldn’t be the end of the world…I’ve been pretty miserable.

I love stealing kisses in public. Not a gross display, just kisses.

I want to pay someone to clean house for me. If I never have to vacuum or clean a bathroom again it will be pure bliss.

I love meat but couldn’t do the Atkins diet because I love French Toast and potatoes too much. And stuffing. God I love stuffing!

Holding hands with someone you love is underrated.

When my step daughter spends the night at my house we stay up all night talking like teenagers. I am always exhausted the next day but it’s worth it.

Sometimes I need inspiration to do the simplest things. Without that motivation I slack on things. With motivation I’ve been known to go against my very instinct and not regret it afterward.

While I love spending time in a pool I am actually terrified of water because I suck at swimming.

Sometimes I find routine comforting. Other days it makes me crazy. I need a healthy mix.

I still prefer cats to dogs by a small margin. If dogs could purr it would be an even split.

I want to save more room for dessert when I go out. I so rarely order dessert.

I wish I had spent more time in NYC when I was working there part time. I would work, go to dinner, and crash. I should have had my camera out.

My parents are talking again after a nasty divorce. I’m still not talking to my mother and vice-versa.

I am desperate to spend a month in Australia. I also want to see the “snow monkeys” in Japan. And maybe the lemurs on Madagascar.

I have an inexplicable and uncontrollable urge to dance when I hear a shitty, catchy techno song. I even own a few horrible tracks. Thank you, iTunes.

Summer isn’t long enough.

One morning a couple of years ago at the office I ate one of those Entenmann’s Raspberry Strudel things in one sitting. I was mortified when I realized it was gone before lunch time, but dammit I was hungry and it was tasty.

I’ve been really, truly in love twice in my life. I consider myself lucky to have found it that many times.

I have a nervous stomach. When I’m stressed I always feel like curling up in a ball and clutching my stomach until it passes.

I love watching cats clean their faces.

I had the best moment of my life when I was alone, utterly alone, in the desert. I was in Sedona, driving, and I yelled out loud, “I LOVE MY LIFE!” But I still prefer to share life with others.

I have my days I consider selling all my photography equipment and walking away for good. I wonder if I would miss it, or if anyone would notice.

I think women should have evolved beyond a monthly period by now.

I wonder what it would be like to be a dog walker instead of working in an office.

I’m still fearful, almost five years after my near-death experience, when I see a white pick up truck coming at me.

I own a good number of CDs I rarely listen to. But I know if get rid of them I will want to listen and it will be too late. So I keep them.

My last tetanus shot hurt worse than my tonsillectomy.

My only regret? I should have had a lot more sex with more people. Sad but true. What’s a number, really? (Don’t tell my step daughter that.)

Morrissey walked off stage after 7 songs when I finally got to see him. I was unable to go see the rescheduled concert, sadly.

I cannot resist a pair of pin-up style heels.

As much as I love my heels I practically live in my Birks during the summer.

I won’t swim in the ocean and in exchange I won’t eat fish of any kind, ever. Me and the ocean, our relationship ends at wading.

My father tortured my best friend and I for years, he refused to tell us the “dirtiest joke” he’d ever heard until we were 18. After years of anticipation…the joke really sucked. However, I have since learned the world’s most tasteless joke and enjoy springing it on people.

My bread machine was one of the best gifts ever.

I text message all the time with my step daughter. 21st century parenting…

One of the scariest things I’ve ever seen in my life was my dog Gromit being attacked by another dog. I have raised both of my dogs since they were just 8 weeks old and I thought I was going to see one of my babies killed.

When I get around to buying a home I am going to have a hot tub. Or a giant whirlpool tub in my bathroom. I just need a big, deep, warm, bubbly tub at my disposal.

I have been separated by thousands of miles from someone I care about, and I have seen the sun rise while we’re still on the phone talking.

I finally stopped wearing my retainer in the last year without major recourse. I haven’t gotten rid of it yet, though, just in case. I would be miserable if I hadn’t gotten braces 11 years ago.

My hands are always in rough shape, with scratches and scars, I don’t know what I do to myself but my hands take a great deal of abuse.

But I have cute toes.

I hated the idea of “romance” until I was presented with it. Now I’m smitten.

I need to throw away more things.

I love those giant fruit bats that look like Chihuahuas. Maybe it’s because I had a pet Chihuahua growing up.

I was in a car with four other people one night in Hackensack, NJ and went to a White Castle at 1:30 in the morning where we ordered “fifteen cheeseburgers”, when asked if we wanted anything else the driver yelled, “oh, and a small diet coke!”

I love argyle socks and stockings.

I still fear shooting weddings strictly digital - I know just as much can go wrong with film, but I’ve never gotten over that mental hump. That and I hate having to work up all the photos myself afterwards instead of dropping off film.

My photo of me with The Proclaimers is one of my favorite photos in the world! My best friend and I can sing along to the album Sunshine on Leith complete with an amazing accent, and we had so much fun at the show last year!

I can’t sleep with any lights on in my room, even the LED of an alarm clock or VCR gives me a massive migraine the next morning.

Both of my dogs answer to the name, “Asshole!”

I am the woman who rescues baby birds from the ground and turtles from the middle of the road.

I missed out on most of my 20s. I am working hard to make up for it.

Every so often I run into an old photo in an antique or junk shop that I can't resist. Clearly this was a souvenir studio pose but as with most of such discoveries, I'm left with the frustrating mysteries of the image. Where and when was this taken...and, of course, who were these guys and what would their lives have been.

I know I'm one of many with a collection of found photos.

Thing about me #4: I got my first real job as a temp in this building slingin' Visual Basic code.

I was getting my driver's license renewed nearby and decided to swing down for a reminiscence or two.

I had a corner office in this building once I started getting good. It was a far cry from the hastily-set-up desk I had in the server room next to the huge noisy air conditioner.

I dont like to take pills, but they make me feel lots better usually. A girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do i guess. I also take one more pill for my IBS, but it is not as pretty as these pink and blue ones, so I left it out of the photo :-)

Thing about me #3 - I collect coins.

This one took a little while for me to find but I finally got it. Canada, along with the US, UK, Australia, Mexico, China, and other countries produce what're called bullion coins. These are coins that contain an ounce or a fraction of an ounce of precious metal. Most countries that produce bullion coins do so in gold, silver, and platinum. Canada also does one in palladium. When I found that out, I had to have it.

Palladium is about half the price of gold. It is number 46 on the periodic table (just one proton away from silver). I had the periodic table memorized when I was in the 4th grade.

My third "100 Things About Me" list. Didn't think it would be a trilogy, did you? : ) Well, here we go again...

I've worn lipstick and a tutu, but on separate occasions, and have proof.

My belly button lint is always blue regardless of the colour of shirt I'm wearing.

In first grade, my friend told my crush that I liked her. She walked up to me on the playground, threw a fit, and told me she hated my guts. It crushed my little heart.

I eat Gerber baby food on occasion.

With clippers, I cut every hair off my body, except my head. Yes, even my twig and berries.

I wear a white T-shirt and jeans well.

Like Michael Jackson, I believe in perfection. But unlike Michael, I don't desire little boys. Or look like my sister.

The first girl I ever asked out worked at a Dairy Queen. I was turned down.

I lived in an apartment where the ceiling fell off. Worst apartment ever.

I once peed in the ocean. It was cold and I was all "wrapped up". Something... happened. The next time I went: blood. And fierce pain. Like a stream of salty razorblades passing through me. A little tip: drink more water, not less. Repair time is faster with less pain.

I feel pretty. Oh, so pretty.

I set off a fire alarm in City Hall as a kid.

I admire the altruistic nature of ants, but think they're a bit uppity.

I literally shit my pants once.

I think it's never a bad idea to say yes to trying something new.

I think chinchillas look blissfully peaceful when they're sleeping.

Flirting is one of my most cherished and creative pleasures.

I love frosted animal crackers

I love white chocolate covered pretzels

Just about anything that's frosted, I'll generally stuff in my mouth

I wonder, out of all the disciplines and arts taught in K-12, why is the art of humour overlooked? Possibly the most potent and pragmatic social tool you'll ever use, and it's all but neglected.

I find it strange that fundraising car washes are performed by underage girls. Why not just charge extra for your daughter to finish the job and give one of the "donors" a lap dance?

I can't eat white bread

The nihilist in me would love to see an Amy Winehouse / Pete Doherty lovechild.

I love being able to put a smile on a pretty girl's face. Game shows don't offer prizes that compare to that feeling.

Peppermint is my favourite mint.

I don't understand all the fuss over macadamia nuts. They're overpriced and lack flavor.

Cinnamon buns make me smile. Even their swirl gets me excited. The swirl of a cinnamon bun is proof that mankind is capable of introducing smile inducing beauty into the world. A hot bath and a cinnamon bun... dare to dream.

Turning a cat into a friend, who was a stranger just a moment before, makes me happy.

If I could be any movie hero, it would be a toss up between Wolverine, Indiana Jones, and Aragorn.

I find it interesting that women drool over shoes the way men drool over women.

I think it's equally as important to learn from your mistakes as it is to set out and make new ones.

I find it disturbing when women tell me "I need to go put my face on." Frightening.

Ben Franklin had many words of wisdom. He was also a ladies man. Somewhere, I believe, are the hidden works of Ben's writings on relations with women. I want it.

I've figured out how we can stop killer bees from killing. Get the queen bee hooked on the Chronic. Mellow that bitch's hive right out.

As a kid, I didn't realize Harrison Ford was both Han Solo and Indiana Jones.

I think the inclination to throw rocks is in a boy's blood.

I loathe the telemarketing industry

I just don't think that feet are meant to be in shoes all day.

I want to photograph Victoria Falls before I die

I think there should be a Make-A-Wish Foundation for dying photographers.

I dream of Californication

For the most part, I don't really like the Red Hot Chili Peppers

I think most politicians are just immature kids with bigger vocabularies and deeper pocketbooks

I love DVD commentaries

If I could be any celebrity's penis, in their prime, it would be either Scott Baio's or John Stamos'

I've worked for a company that produced trampolines.

I go wild for rhubarb pie

I love the smell of pistachio nuts

I'm told that, when my mom was changing my diaper as a baby, I peed in her face once.

I want to know where plants and animals branched off in the evolutionary chain. Did they indeed branch off, or were they always separate life forms?

I hate when people say "artsy fartsy"

Pet Peeve #1 - People who refer to stuffing as dressing.

Pet Peeve #2 - Magazines that don't number every page.

Pet Peeve #3 - People who pronounce Washington as Worshington. Bastards.

Those bright little Easter Peeps bring a smile to my face. PEEPS! : )

I don't believe knowledge is power. Applied knowledge is power.

I'm uncut.

I'm pretty good at phone sex.

I respect a girl who can show a little cleavage.

A fish once nibbled on my nipple.

I've been approached by gay guys, and I'm told they find me attractive.

I wonder why colours fade, but white takes on colour over time. I think it's the Conspiracy of Yellow.

I think it's still a long ways off before the meek inherit the earth. But I'll still shake your hand when I do : )

I think it's cool that squirrels use powerlines as their own personal highway system

I wish I got laid as often as rabbits

When I was 3, I had a pair of light brown shoes I used to call "my peanut butter shoes"

I received one of the best hugs of my life from a hot girl in a cover band

Some of the best advice I was ever given was to quit my job.

I enjoy reading the handwritten love notes of strangers

I get a kick out of watching little kids bowl

I love the sound of a break on a pool table

I find the science behind marketing, whether it's a product or a war, more than a little disturbing at times.

I'd never vote for a president who I could handily trounce in a game of Scrabble.

I think it would make an interesting study to find out why accents are sexy.

A mouse once saved me from a dog attack.

People who talk in absolutes rub me the wrong way.

I think a great name for a strip club would be: The Heavy Petting Zoo

When I taught myself how to type, I'd walk around air typing my thoughts.

I have a story idea about the people of this nation agreeing with the government's suggestion to pump anti-anxiety medication into our drinking water.

I hate when people put me on speakerphone.

I shoot primarily in aperture priority mode.

I'll drive over 100 miles in search of sunny weather on a rainy weekend.

I've hung out in airports just to be near travel

I like mini Reese's Peanut Butter Cups more than the regular kind because the chocolate to peanut butter ratio is better.

No matter how many samples I've tried, I still haven't developed a taste for beer.

I really don't like incense at all.

I believe that rights and freedoms aren't given. They're taken.

I think it's hysterically funny to stare at dogs and cats, eye to eye, when they're going number 2. Hilariously humiliating.

I'm a proponent of medically assisted suicide.

I once saved a ficus from certain death.

My first concert? Debbie Gibson. I know.

The first time I held hands with a girl romantically was with a girl I met on a Greyhound Bus.

I really like TV dinner desserts.

I'd like to sell Ben & Jerry's on an idea I have for Lizzy Borden ice-cream. It will have little chocolate axes and blood red raspberry swirls. Yeah, I don't suppose my serial killer themed ice-cream idea will fare well either. John Wayne Gacy's Rainbow Sherbet probably won't make it to a grocery store near you anytime soon, boys and girls. Sorry. I know you're disappointed.

I haven't thrown up in 22 years.

I have a pornographic picture involving Easter Peeps I've deliberated over whether or not to post for nearly a year now.

I want to know what bleach has against colour.

In my opinion, Holga shots look head and shoulders better in black and white.

I share a birthday with Ansel Adams.

I still wonder, if our body temperature is 98.6 degrees, why does it feel hot to us if it's 98 degrees outside? Wouldn't it feel just right? And if it's 98 degrees in a hot tub, why does that feel cold? I'm thoroughly confused.

I have a business idea: Scented mufflers. Because, if you're going to pollute, shouldn't it smell like roses?

****100 things about me***********

Growing up I was never the sporty tom boy type, not because i didn't want to be, rather because my mother (whom I shall refer to as George-the name I gave her in 1991) would not allow me to be. George had this desire for me to be what she was never allowed to be (but that is a different story all together). Before I was able to walk, I was able to swim. Before I could write my name I was doing dives and flips off of the high dive (like George always wanted to do). When it came time for preschool it also became time for dance classes. A simple class called "Rhythm & Rhyme" turned into tap, ballet, jazz, gymnastics, clogging, cheer leading, and even a short stint (as in 1 month) with ball room dancing. Each day of the week was something different, every time the moon changed cycles I was doing something else, something new. My life was over taken with dance recitals, pageants, and talent shows where George gleamed with pride and showed off her girl.

In 4th grade I had moved schools and made some new friends. My new friends all signed up for a local softball team. I loved playing sports with my brothers so I though it would be fun to do (and all my new friends were playing). When I asked my mother she told me "No", yet not in such a simple and nice way. I went something more along the lines of "you are a dancer, you are a girl, you do not play sports, you do not get dirty" in her rant there were a few choice words thrown in for good measure. George's response made me sad, but it did not deter me, it made me more determined to play. So being the manipulative child I was I registered myself, forging my fathers signature (which by 4th grade I had down pat) to the permission slip; and using money I had earned from helping a friends mother.

I went to the first practice and realized that I did not have the equipment needed to play softball, I remedied that by "borrowing" (without him knowing) my oldest brothers mitt. That worked well for the next two practices, until my brother hid his mitt because he thought his younger brothers had played with it and got it all dirty. It was at that point that I had to come up with a way to get the glove and bat that I needed to play softball for the yellow team. Irony showed my that way while I was helping my Popple tinker in his workshop. Over the ever present radio station came those sweet sweet words, with that catchy beat "Put me in coach, I'm ready to play, today. Look at me, I can be, center field". I danced a little gig to that beat while pretending that a Phillips screwdriver was my bat on my shoulder. When I was all done Popple asked how I liked that song, and instantly I had the much needed routine song for the pageant that was a few months away. But I would need things for this routine, a baseball cap, shirt, bat, and glove...definitely a glove, could not be center field without a glove. Of course I had to get these things asap so my creative outlets could flow into the routine, and we just had to go to the BX right away.

The weeks went past as did the practices and the games. My parents thought nothing of me going because as far as they new I was going to RISE (gifted program) activities, and how could they interfere with the gifted program??? The yellow team did very well in each and every one of those games. The only weak link was me, who struggled with batting, but boy did I do awesome in center field.

The yellow team did so well that it won the semi's the next stop was the championship game. To celebrate getting into the championship game my coach took us out for ice cream at Big Ben Burgers. I loved Big Ben Burgers, and I loved thier ice cream; Popple would take George there to get a burger and ice cream to go. Sometimes there would be some left over for us kids to share. But this time I didn't have to worry about sharing because my coach was taking me to get my very own twist ice cream cone. If only I knew that ice cream cone would end up being such a bad thing. Popple and George pulled into Big Ben's for the second time that week, and before George even got out of the car she spotted a 10 year old girl in a dirty yellow softball uniform that looked very very similar to her muse. The gig was up, I hadn't even taken the first lick of my ice cream cone before I was being dragged back to the station wagon by the sleeve of that yellow shirt. A Big Ben burger was no longer important to George.

A girl by the name of Chrissy Sassy played for the red team, the team that beat the yellow team, who was without thier normal center fielder, in the championship game. Chrissy Sassy's winning streak was soon taken over in a pageant by someone else who ended up with a lot of time to devote to her routine. The little girl that would win 1st place walked onto the stage with her new glove and started clapping to a catchy little tune.

April 5, I weighed the most I have ever weighed in my life. I am down quite a bit since then... I have not really been "trying", just a couple of small changes. No more chocolate in my diet. We have not gone out to eat with the exception of Subway since March (we used to go out a few times a week). At work I park on the far side of campus and walk to the Administration Building. As long as the scale keeps dropping I think I will be a excited girl, I need to get that endurance back for my favorite sports.

Last few days have been really hard for me. I guess I feel overwhelmed with all the decisions to be made with my extended family. I am struggling with a personal aspect of my life. Finals are soon approaching, and for the first time I am really really struggling with one of my classes (damn accounting). I used to have someone that kept me grounded, that was just there for me. I guess maybe that is what is hitting me the most, I don't like for people to fade away. I just don't know.

I remember my grandma once saying that "the smell of baked goods can make anyone happy". So after we got back from sitting with her (no change) we decided to make dinner, and then cookies. I didn't eat any, but by golly the smell that overtook my house was nice. The kiddos are limited in how much they can have, and my neighbors are not getting any this time (they are part of the sadness). So anyone up for cookies? Free to good home.

Stephanie Ann Marie Steele
I was named after my fathers Chemistry Lab Partner in College. No she is not my mother (I doubt my mother ever stepped foot inside a science class). Which is rather amusing because one of my favorite things has always been Chemistry. I wonder did my namesake set the tone for my likes? Or is that all just a coincidence? My Middle name was supposed to be AnnaMaria named after some famous european actress (your guess is as good as mine on which one). My father said that my mother was so drugged up from the birth that she "forgot" what my name was supposed to be. I ended up with Ann (mothers middle name) and Marie (great grandmothers name) instead. My last name, well you can't really choose that; but I must say it works nicely since I live so close to Pittsburgh (the Steel City). One of these days maybe I will find someone that hyphenates well... Steel is too cool of a name to just give up.

When I was pregnant with my oldest daughter (now 11) my only request was that she share my initials. She does, and maybe when she has her own daughter it will have the same.

Last night Paige, Ahnika, Drew and me were talking about films and videos we had been in. It occurred to me that I might be able to find some of the stuff I did on You Tube.

Sure enough both of the videos I danced in were there.

The first was Martha Wash and RuPaul's rehash of, It's Raining Men. I'm in there briefly wearing boxer briefs and a fake fur.

In the second one I donned a bunny outfit and had to break dance. I remember they sewed the head onto the body with me trapped inside because the rented suit was sorta broken. The a/c went out on the set and I had to do 5 takes in a row under extremely hot lights. After my last dive roll, I stood up and fell right back down, flat on my back - I had passed out for a few seconds. I awoke to applause (from the band and crew) which made it all better.

There is the wonderful little girl in my home who does not call me "Mumma" like the other two... She calls me "Steph" (she has slipped up only once or twice in the past couple of years that she has lived with me.) We are so alike in many many ways. We both love to just be accepted, make people smile, cuddle, and get our way. We have the same temper, the same sadness to rejection, and the same love for frequently painting our own and others' nails outrageous colors.

This week it is green and gold, in honor of St Patrick's day and my 29th b-day... Maybe if I am lucky she will someday stop calling me "Steph".

Flickr View from the Chain of Rocks Bridge
Tags: mississippiriver   100thingsaboutme
100 things about me #4 - The Chain of Rocks Bridge is an old Route 66 bridge which crosses the Mississippi River just north of Saint Louis (you can see downtown buildings at the horizon here, downriver.) The bridge has been closed to traffic for decades and for years it sat and rusted and crumbled, seemingly fated to be torn down.
Back in my art school days, there was more than one time that I sneaked illegally onto this abandoned bridge at night with friends, looking down the river while drinking wine or smoking (yes) or both. The pavement on the bridge at that time was full of holes and it would have been easy enough to fall through to our deaths. We painted post-hippie graffiti on the concrete, talked terribly seriously about art and life, and felt that exhiliration of youthful self-importance combined with the thrillingly dangerous atmosphere of the night and the river.
Obviously, the bridge escaped destruction, as did we, and now it exists, repaired, as part of a network of biking/hiking trails.
The aristocratic-looking building in the river is actually a water intake station built ages ago for St. Louis waterworks.

I failed at not 1, not 2, but three serious suicide attempts.

No one can ever claim having a bad day until they have had their 3rd serious suicide attempt - - - the embarrassment of vomiting all over the nurses and interns - - - knowing surviving means picking up the pieces and moving on despite having any strength to do so.

Bad enough to hate yourself all the more because you can't even kill yourself right three times over, but then to wake up from a coma to find that the hospital staff has nicknamed you, "PukeBoy" - that really sucks. That is a bad day. The next time you lose your keys and your hair isn't quite right, think of me saying in your ear, "boo-fuckin-hoo".

I was once on several medications for a bi-polar diagnosis. They made me stiff, unemotional and numb to everything. I couldn't make art, i couldn't laugh - hell, I couldn't even read a book. After a ton of therapy and a lot of cognitive work, I was able to stop the medications.

I will say this though - it is a daily internal conversation upon awakening and going to bed that deliberates the value of being alive. It's a battle I do have daily/nightly.

We - the ones who have been diagnosed with a mental illness but pass as normal - we hide our illness because of prejudice and our desire to be considered somewhat normal. We're also the happiest people you will ever know - because we have to be.

Recently someone reminded me that one can be loved despite their disability. I thank her. And because of her I have revealed the thing I've hidden from you and try to hide from myself. I'm a crazy person - and not in the cool way. I'm also a sane person - well, at least that's what my last therapist told me before he graduated me. The bottom line is I do have a thinking disorder. I'm not afforded the luxury of a gut feeling or
instinct. I have to rethink everything and filter each emotion. That's a hell of a lot of work.

The nice thing about having a mental health diagnosis is that I got treatment and worked on my own issues. Most people spend their entire lives thinking they are sane and healthy. That's funny.

ps - the suicide thing - that was a while ago. I am better now. In fact I graduated from suicidal to homicidal. (personal growth - it's baby steps)

#1 Finding myself somewhat unnerved and, well, basically freaked out at the fact that I'm retiring from teaching at the end of this school year. It's been a long run as an art teacher, and it's been an unbelievably rich career (although not in any lucrative sense of course). The next few months are going to be bittersweet.

100 Things About Me # 3:
I can't explain the shoe thing. I have no idea what causes it nor why I feel compelled to photograph my shoes. Shoes inspire passion, lust, fantasy. They are a source of transfiguration and astral travel. They are the very best if they are comfortable to dance and walk in and are still funky and fun. I have no patience with shoes that hurt me. I will drool on them in a store, but I won't buy them. I adore finding outrageously perfect shoes in thrift stores.

They were good at this. Without my asking, they struck three poses for me to shoot. This was the best. Right after this, they started kissing.

I almost never ask for poses, and usually hate posed shots. ( I like this one.)

My oldest daughter, Kelsey, died a little less than 8 months ago. She is always with me. Every second. That little picture up there is the one that stays in my wallet.

Flickr has been, overall, an amazingly supportive place for me to express the range of emotions that overwhelm me. In fact, I get more support here than I do in the flesh and blood world.

I'd like to tell you a little bit about the experience of bereaved parents. First of all, there is no word for us in English. We are not orphans. We are not widows.
I think this is because we embody the deepest fear of every parent. It is easier on the psyche to keep us invisible.

People avoid mentioning our dead children. I've been told that it's because no one wants to remind us and get us upset. Don't worry. You're not reminding us. We haven't forgotten. And should we cry, isn't it better to cry with a companion rather than all alone, as most of us do? We don't mean to make you uncomfortable with our tears. Please don't make us uncomfortable by pretending that our child never existed. And, most of the time, we won't cry. We will smile with pleasure that you remembered, that you said the name, that you care.

People walk out of our lives. They don't want to be part of our new normal. The balance is that new people walk in. Someone who may have only been an acquaintance before the death will surprise us by being true and steady - checking in with us regularly and really wanting to know the truth when they ask us how we are.

It takes us a long time, often several years, and for some of us, never, to be able to cope easily with the day to day things in the world. Many of us describe a sensation of "walking beside" ourselves. Be patient. Don't rush us. Don't expect us to follow a time table or "get over it". Some things are not gotten over, just incorporated.

Please don't run away when we reach out with a need to express our feelings. The roller coasters in our minds are long and scary. We need to know that you are there and that you can hear us. Often, you might not know what to say. That's ok. You can tell us that. Your presence is more important than your words. We all wish for that magic wand that you regret not having.

For those of you who do this for us, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You save our sanity.

#1: This year, I plan on training for, and hopefully running a marathon.

I've been a runner my whole life, and I went as far as to run a half marathon when I came back from Russia. Then, life steps in and I never got around to taking that next step. Work piled up, I started school, and I just had too many convenient excuses not to run. Now, with graduation looming on the horizon, this looks like something I'll be able to make the time for. And let's face it, I'm not getting any younger. If how bad my hands hurt after I go climbing is any indication on what's in store for me, I'd rather start training now, than wonder in a few years if I could have done it.

Now, if it would just stop snowing . . .

I actually miss doing the 365 thing, but since I've been slacking for so long, I'm starting a new set.

Maybe this time I'll get over my committment issues and stick with it.

And - 100 things about me you may or may not know.

1. I'm actually quite shy in person.

2. My hair's naturally a reddish brown, but it’s been chocolate brown, platinum blonde, and every shade in between.

3. Once it was even lime green, and yes – that was on purpose.

4. I started dyeing it when I was thirteen, and it’s been dyed so many times that I honestly don’t know exactly what color it is anymore.

5. I love old campy movies, like Pillow Talk with Rock Hudson and Doris Day.

6. I’m a news junkie – completely a CNN/BBC/NPR whore.

7. I have whole constellations of freckles.

8. I can’t say “Planetarium” without cracking up, and I've never been to one.

9. When I was a kid I made my face bleed trying to scrub my freckles off.

10. My middle name is in honor of my father’s mother who died from cancer when he was only 11 years old.

11. I don’t have a high school diploma.

12. But – I have a BBA, MBA, and JD.

13. I managed to get all three before my 24th birthday.

14. I've passed two bars now on my first try.

15. I’m going to eventually get a GED.

16. About five years ago I developed an extreme phobia to sharks.

17. I'm also afraid of drowning.

18. I’m incredibly accident prone – and I bruise easily. It's really best not to let me be around sharp objects.

19. Roses - but deep yellows with red blushed tips, lilies, irises, daffodils, tulips, hyacinths, orchids, bluebonnets and buttercups are my favorite flowers.

20. I’m notorious for starting craft projects and never finishing them.

21. I prefer Dr. Pepper to Coke – and I abhor Pepsi.

22. I’m addicted to coffee.

23. I’m an only child, but I have three half sisters and a half brother.

24. I haven't seen my brother since August 15, 1998. I miss him.

25. I love the smell of honeysuckle and watching for lightning bugs.

26. I have two cats, and one weighs 18 pounds and the other 22.

27. I had to bottle feed them when I first got them from the shelter because they didn’t know how to eat solid food - apparently I’m a good teacher.

28. I started wearing glasses in graduate school. Switched to contacts in law school. And switched again. Now I wear both.

29. My tongue is abnormally short, the lingual frenulum is attached too far toward the end of my tongue and should've been cut when I was a baby.

30. I have very small hands, my ring size is right about a 4 or a 4 1/2.

31. I am not, however a size 4 and I'm finally o.k. with that. I believe women should be curvy.

32. My first new car was stolen from my driveway before the first payment was even due on it.

33. My high school mascot was a gopher. Yep. A blue gopher.

34. I got an A in my graduate accounting class without ever getting a single problem completely correct.

35. I love fireworks, and nearly lost my hearing in my right ear when a firework blew up in my hand at 15.

36. I pierced my own belly button when I was 14. It made a puffy scar.

37. When I was 14, I also carved three initials into my inner ankle with the tip of a protractor.

38. I have a tattoo on my left hip.

39. I love going to look at Christmas lights.

40. The first time I saw real snow was in Arizona.

41. I get obnoxiously loud hiccups almost daily.

42. I have an amazing sense of smell, and remember times, places and people by their scent.

43. I have an annoying habit of chewing on ice.

44. I’m amazingly good at trivial pursuit. Except the sports questions. If it's not about hockey, I'm pretty worthless.

45. My mother was convinced that I would grow up to be an arsonist, as I'd torch all my toys in my easy bake oven.

46. I still love to color in coloring books.

47. I still have the first book I ever read – “Tip”.

48. I’ve willingly eaten rattlesnake. And yes, it tastes like chicken. Rubbery – but still chicken. I've also willingly eaten rabbit, shark, squid, octupus and alligator.

49. I have been in beauty pageants, and yes, I used aqua net hairspray and put vaseline on my teeth. I still consider myself to be a feminist.

50. I’ve only mowed a yard one time. I don’t even know how to start a lawn mower. I've changed my own oil in my old truck before.

51. I eat mustard with my french fries, which I like a little burned and soggy. I hate ketchup.

52. I firmly believe that “well done” meat is sacrilegious. If I wanted to eat a hockey puck, I would.

53. I love going fishing, and have helped butcher a deer - but I could never go hunting. The only thing that I've ever shot and killed was an armadillo when I was 16. I still feel bad about it.

54. Thunderstorms scare me, but not hurricanes.

55. I already have laugh lines.

56. I’d say I am a horrible procrastinator – but I can do that later.

57. It’s possible for me to get sunburned just driving to work.

58. My childhood nickname is Woody.

59. I know what government cheese tastes like.

60. I’m allergic to bee stings.

61. I love dark bitter beer, dark chocolate, but like my coffee milky and sweet.

62. My toenails are ALWAYS painted, but never blue, green, purple, etc. My fingernails are almost never painted - and if they are - it's just clear.

63. I have a temperature tolerance zone of about 5 degrees.

64. I used to have about 180 pairs of shoes.

65. I was offered a college scholarship through ROTC to be in military intelligence. I declined, and got a scholarship through a beauty pageant instead.

66. I'm a wicked shot with a rifle (best in the corps) but I hate guns.

67. I really like pink grapefruit jelly belly candy.

68. I love the smell of wisteria, ripe peaches, and fresh baked bread.

69. Rubies are my birthstone and my least favorite gem.

70. Red is perhaps my favorite color, but I like blue and green a lot.

71. My favorite colors in the crayon box were midnight blue and indian red. Not exactly p.c., eh?

72. I had to use Crayola® crayons or my hands broke out into a painful rash.

73. I’ve had brain surgery.

74. I’ve been in a drug induced coma.

75. Both happened before I was three months old.

76. #74 happened when a nurse overdosed me on sedatives meant for my mother to calm her down after #73.

77. The doctors tried to convince my parents to take me off the ventilators because they felt that I would grow up severely retarded.

78. Terri Schiavo’s story made me want a living will. And yes, I obviously know doctors can be wrong.

79. I wanted to be a doctor, but was pretty horrible at chemistry. So bad that I failed the second semester of honors chemistry and the professor felt sorry for me and gave me a D. So I became a doctor’s best friend/worst nightmare – an attorney.

80. Because of the movie “Cats Eye” I was always afraid to sleep with my closet doors open at night.

81. Favorite quote: “Don’t wait for your ship to come in, swim out to it.”

82. I believe in Christian family values, which includes the values that all people, regardless of sexual orientation should be able to marry and raise a family.

83. I jello wrestled in college. But no one who knew me then would believe it.

84. My biggest fear is failure.

85. I'm incredibly ticklish. Just thinking about being tickled makes me laugh.

86. I'm REALLY shy about singing in front of people, and have a very low singing voice. But I sang in church choir for years but often sang with the men because it was easier for me.

87. My heritage is Native American, German and Irish.

88. I took years of tap, ballet and jazz lessons.

89. I actually got pulled over once for going one mile over the speed limit.

90. I eat tomatoes the way other people eat apples. When I eat apples, I eat everything but the seeds.

91. I once broke a cello by bashing it in with my head. It’s a rather complicated story. Suffice it to say that it was my cello, and was a very expensive accident. I don't play any longer, and I'm not sure I could even read music anymore.

92. I often talk in my sleep – with my eyes open. I used to sleep walk.

93. I've had chicken pox about six times.

94. I abhor people who smack when they eat. It drives me insane.

95. I bought a truck when I was 19 that was a standard without having a clue how to drive it. I learned. Quickly. Though I did get out at a stop light and kick it one time when I stalled it.

96. I love gourmet food, but every once in a while, only mac & cheese will do.

97. I always wanted to be a trapeze artist in the circus. My brother Michael and I would make trial tightrope runs on my Granny's clothesline after watching circus of the stars. I’m still amazed we didn’t die.

98. I have three dimples when I really smile.

99. I have a hard time sleeping if the sheets aren’t cold, and will often wake up in the middle of the night to flip the pillow so I can sleep on the "cold" side

100. I still have hope.

Another year, another 100 things about me. If you missed out on the first installment, go here.

I’d love to see the evolution of man in time-lapse photography, from single-celled organism to today.

I don’t believe that men think about sex every 7 seconds. Unless when the study was conducted, a naked woman passed by the doorway every 7 seconds.

The first time I ever cleaned my own toilet was one of the most humiliating and disgusting times in my life.

Staring into the heart of a fire is very relaxing to me

I love when a young woman’s body glistens, whether it’s with sweat or she’s covered in baby oil.

I’d like to milk a cow before I die

My favourite flowers are: Calla lilies, heliconia, and tulips.

I find it incredible that the human heart beats day and night without me even thinking about it. What a little champion!

I find that meditation is the antidote to Murphy’s Law

I pray for Jack Black’s demise.

My favourite food is Chinese. Or Thai.

Every time I pass a pretty girl, I wait for the breeze she creates to hit my nose, then I take in her scent.

I still don’t own an iPod

I think the Nissan 350Z is hotter than any Porsche on the road today.

I agree, mean people suck. But, I’m tired of hearing about it.

There are four qualities I’m constantly on the lookout for when meeting new people. Someone who is: 1) Intelligent 2) Well-Traveled 3) Open-minded 4) has a Sense of Wonder about the World. The first can be found relatively easily. The first two, a little less. The third is hard enough to find by itself, let alone combined with the first two. If the first three elements are in place, the fourth is nearly always there.

I vote sporadically, but will try harder.

If no one’s in the room, I’ll lick the plate clean of spaghetti sauce.

I once held my breath until I passed out.

I once woke up at night to the sound of, what I can only describe as, a cross between a pig squealing and a girl shrieking. Whatever it was, it ran passed my window fast.

I also once awoke to the sound of someone breathing about 2 ½ feet away from my head, but no one was in the room. No matter which way I turned my head, the point of origin would not reveal itself. I ran out of the room. When I came back, it was gone.

No matter how many years go by, I still feel 16

My older brother looks younger than me

I hate when people utter the phrase, “Well… job security,” when faced with a pile of work. What kind of mutant mothers did you pop out of? And why are you all American? Get away from me!

I can’t quite grasp why people are loyal to the companies they work for and tolerate mistreatment by so-called “superiors”.

I think Jack Nicholson looks like a used car salesman when he’s sporting a mustache.

I think grown men look funny driving Toyota Echoes and Yaris hatchbacks. If there’s any way for a guy to get laid less, than by not owning a car at all, it’s by owning one of these cars. Sex comes before reliability, my friend.

I like when women cook for me. I think it's sweet.

After discovering Zeppelin in 2003, absorbing their catalog of rock masterpieces, and concluding my obsession with them, I found it incredibly hard to listen to any other rock n’ roll music. They set the bar so high.

My birthmark has all but disappeared

I’m convinced meteorologists are overpaid hacks and should publicly apologize every time they’re wrong.

I’ve never tried marijuana, want to try mushrooms, and that drug Sting spoke of in his book, Broken Music.

Legalize it. What the hell, legalize ‘em all.

I’ve listened to Cheech & Chong’s Greatest Hit well over a hundred times.

I AM A MIGHTY OAK IN A FOREST OF SAPLINGS!

I am a self-help survivor

My favourite pizza topping is Canadian Bacon

I’m amazed at how many erogenous zones women have. How a light nibble on an earlobe can make your body shudder with delight is beyond me, but I’m all for it!

I think being employee of the month is tantamount to being called the best slave on the plantation.

I have pleaded with something or someone outside myself to get me through tough times.

I wish the people in my life well before I go to sleep every night

I believe you can learn something from everyone, even those you hate.

I desire peace most when I’m under the greatest stress

I believe that those who are truly wise do not let age, sex, jealousy, or socio-economic status get in the way of learning from others.

I’m often contrarian in conversation, not with the intent to argue, but either to bring another view to the table, or just to make a conversation fun with a completely-out-of-left-field idea.

The more I talk about my greatness in a fun way, the more women smile and like me more.

I’m an idea man.

Golden showers don’t appeal to me personally, but I loved Dave Chappelle’s comedy sketch about R. Kelly peeing on girls. I’ve sang along with the song : )

I don’t have blind faith in expert opinions. I listen, but only believe if I feel what they say is true for me.

I’ve become quite adept at reading the body language of people in downtown Portland. I can tell from blocks away, with a high degree of accuracy, who’s going to ask me for change, a smoke, to sign a petition, sign up for OSPIRG, or buy a Street Roots.

I walk fast. The worst people to pass, in general, are white people. They rarely give an inch (give an inch, make a friend).

One of my goals as a kid was to have $100 in one bank in each of the U.S. states.

I stuck my fingers in a fan with a metal blade when I was a kid. From what I’m told, the ends of three fingers were dangling from their stumps.

New Orleans has a special place near my heart.

I love beignets

The three things I think about most are: 1) how to support myself without working for someone else. 2) photography 3) women & humour (I can’t separate the two)

Levi’s 501’s are my favourite jeans.

I discovered the power of Karma in ‘95

I once knew the most wonderful woman in the world. Unfortunately, she was married. Otherwise, you’d be reading the words of the happiest man in the world.

I believe evolution works like an exponential moving average. More emphasis is placed on the most recent generation’s strengths and abilities than all previous generations to deal best with today’s challenges. But, they’re all part of the mix.

I also believe our DNA isn’t static and changes as we go through life. Actually, I read a couple years back that my belief was proven true.

I’m a little more intelligent than I let on

I fear the world is becoming culturally homogenous

I wonder why only the Chinese and Italians get a section of town named after their country.

I wonder why there’s no cheese in Chinese food. Anybody?

I’ve found that the rain in Spain really does fall mainly on the plain

Root to tip: 6 and a half inches.

I’ve never been caught. You know.

I once had a dream where I had a gun, and everything I shot turned into a bubble gum bubble that expanded a few feet before it exploded.

I thought the first 2 Harry Potter movies were terrible, skipped the 3rd, and enjoyed the 4th. Ralph Fiennes was an excellent choice to play Voldemort.

I don’t often know if my travels are the result of my need to take pictures or if my picture taking is the result of my need to travel.

I’d like to run in a marathon some day.

I’ve driven from coast to coast.

I’ve not yet made a single print of any one of my digital pictures

I’ve never been to an opera

I think root beer floats are overrated. Ice-cream is great. Root beer is great. Together the pair makes an abusive couple.

I try to appreciate people for who they are and not concern myself with what they’re not.

I think the intricacy of snowflakes is overwhelmingly beautiful.

I had one of the best sandwiches of my life at a 7-Eleven in Las Vegas

Political correctness offends me and I’m suing for pain and suffering

I don’t know if I could be a comedian, but I think I could pitch some good ideas

I’d like to spin saltwater taffy all alone in an attic with a lone 60 watt bulb and jazz playing in the background.

I have a romantic vision of getting my pool game to a high level and touring America’s pool halls and meeting people.

I have another romantic vision of playing slide guitar down on the bayou to the alligators and swamp frogs.

I make myself laugh more than other people make me laugh.

One of my favourite quotes from LOTR was Gandalf telling Frodo, “Do not be too eager to deal out death and judgment.” Awesome!

I love going somewhere cool I’ve been before and taking someone who’s never been. Seeing the world through another’s eyes is a kick.

I’ve noticed that people like to see the wonderful qualities about themselves reflected back to them through another’s eyes.

I have a theory that we’re all gods who were bored because we knew everything there was to know, so we created this world where we could temporarily forget all we knew and see the world with new eyes.

I believe that time goes faster as you get older because you’re seeing and experiencing fewer and fewer new things that create the memories that create your sense of time. The challenge is to always be looking at things in a new way, from a different perspective, and magnify the intensity of a memory. Time can be slowed. I’ve done it.

I believe that beginner’s luck is the universe’s way of encouraging you to try new things.

I wonder why there’s a universal law stating that it takes more effort to create something than to destroy it.

I’m a seeker of profound wisdom

I understand the benefits of arrogance and humility

I think conversation skills should be taught in school

I hate when people use the word “should”

I think today’s school system is behind the times

I highly appreciate the art of comedy

I believe there’s no form of comedy more pure or raw than stand-up. It’s the Texas No-Limit Hold ‘em of the art.

I believe that a big part of success is just showing up

I love dates. The fruit.

I believe that a pretty girl can never be too girly.

I don’t think there’s a single move a beautiful woman can make that isn’t cute.

When I see old dilapidated, abandoned, singular houses by the side of the road in the middle of nowhere, I wonder about the big dreams the first owners must have had when they settled there and how their dreams must have dried up.

I love watching Jimmy Page play guitar.

I love the call-to-march opening drum beat of Sunday Bloody Sunday

I think the homo-erotic relationship between Bono and The Edge is intriguing

I believe in going too far. You’ll never know where the edge is unless you do.

Fubuki is my all-time favourite Flickr Hero. He hits every note that sings to my heart and mind.

I think black and white shots of old dolls are creepily compelling

For some reason, the last page of the 100 things about me did not come out as "blue" as the other ones did.

I had a big blank space left so I just traced my hand. I've lost 20-30 pounds since then, and when I was re-reading this the other night, I put my h and up to the trace and my hand is still the smae size.

OK. I've been inspired by Immortal Thrill-Seeker to make a list of 100. It was alot harder than I thought it would be! :o)

Here it goes:
100 Things

Being kissed on the back of my neck sends chills down my spine, like nothing else.

I never forget a face. Names are a whole different story.

Swimming is my favorite form of exercise. My mom said I could swim, before I could walk.

I like to eat ice. It drives my husband crazy. It's a habit I've passed on to my kids & dogs.

I want to live on at least 100 acres. Not that I don't want neighbors. I just like my space.

I'm a Libra, so I'm bossy, lazy, indecisive, sulky & stubborn. But that's ok, because I'm also honest, goodnatured, giving, sweet, and a good listener!

I almost always wear flip-flops. No matter what the weather. Rain, sun, hot, chilly. I have tons of pairs & tan lines on my feet to match.

I've never lived alone. I don't like to be home alone, at night.

I'd rather have it be 65 degrees out, than 95 degrees. You can cuddle more when it's cold out.

Speaking of which, I love to cuddle. My husband, my kids, my friends, my animals. Anyone that will hold still long enough.

I tend to yell alot. I come from a yelling family. We get what's bothering us, off our chests, and move on.

I always tip well. Over 20%. I'm a horrible waitress, myself. It's a crap job & I don't think they get paid enough, to do it!

I'm really bad about returning phone calls. I don't mean to be. Send me an email, I'm more likely to respond, right away.

I love it when it rains. Espically if there is thunder & lightning. And a metal roof. Major plus if it's night & I'm in bed.

I have a list of songs that send chills down my spine: Crazy Love by Van Morrison, Buy Me A Rose by Kenny Rogers, Folsom Prison Blues by Johnny Cash, Change by Blind Melon, Push by Matchbox 20.

I can fit my entire fist in my mouth.

I think my hair is my best feature. It's long, red & curly. What more could a girl want? But I live in Florida, and it's hot here, so it's usually in a ponytail, which really makes my 3 year old daughter mad at me for some reason.

I tend to collect stray animals when I'm on vacation. They just seem to find me. One cat jumped in our car at a rest area in Georgia. One ran into our hotel room in Kentucky. They know a sucker!

My Grandparents adopted me, when I was little.

I've never ridden on a bus, of any kind. No Greyhound, SCAT or anything. Only a schools bus, when I was little.

I want to live in Oregon. I once spent a few months out there & it was the most beautiful place I had ever been.

I really miss Rob.

I talk alot. My husband says he's going to have a shirt made for me that says "Help! I'm talking and I can't shut up!".

My favorite scents are the ocean, Downy (April Fresh), patchouli, and fresh mowed grass.

I want at least two more kids.

I don't want to be alone, when I'm old. But I have a plan for that (see above).

I read anything I can get my hands on. Books, magazines, cereal boxes, newspapers. You name it!

I love to cook. But I have a really small kitchen, so I don't really like cooking in it. But my next house will have a great kitchen and I will feed every one who walks into my house. So watch out!

I had a pet duck when I was little. My best friend and I want to see if it could swim, so we pushed it down the slide, into the pool. It couldn't. My mom had to give it mouth to bill resuscitation..

I can't sleep on my back, no matter how tired I am.

I've never driven in the snow. Actually, I haven't even seen snow, since I was in the 2nd grade.

My Dad has Alzheimers and I'm scared to death I'll develop it when I am his age.

I don't like liars. 90% of the time, you're going to get caught and that will just make it worse, in the end.

I hate to make decisions of any kind.

My favorite uncle died of lung cancer, when I was really young. I'll never smoke cigarettes. Besides, have you ever heard the saying that kissing a smoker is like licking an ashtray? It's true. Very true. Yuck!

I'm always running late. No matter how early I try to leave. I once worked someplace for 6 years and got there, every day, 5 minutes late. At least I'm consistant!

I'm a horrible singer, but that does not stop me from singing in my car or living room. As long as there is no one around. Except my husband. He has to suffer. He smokes, I sing.

I haven't found my calling in life. No one will pay me to be a stay at home Mom! :o)

I enjoy really good food. Preparing it, looking at it, eating it, serving it. I espically love beautiful deserts, like wedding cakes.

I regret not working harder in school. Brent. Ayla. Do you hear that one??

I always wanted a cat with two different color eyes. I think they're good luck. And the other day I got one. I am now offically the crazy cat lady in the neighborhood!

I love road trips of any kind. I'll drive any where, any time. By myself. With some one else. I don't care.

I'd rather be given jewelry than flowers. Nothing expensive (unless you insist), just cool looking!

I get really hung over. Could be because my drink of choice is tequila. Whatever the reason, it's cured me of drinking.

I love to take photos and every once in a while, I get lucky and take a good one.

I live Christmas lights. They go on everything that will hold still. Think Clark Grizwald. But I think those plastic figurines, every one fills their yard up with, are tacky. You know, plastic snowmen, plastic Jesus, plastic Santa.

I love to watch people. I could do it for hours.

I think that marijuana should be legal. Alcohol should not. Most people I know are jerks drunk.

I used to sell insurance and I hated it. Espically the homeowners insurance in Florida, part.

I don't beleive in the death penelty. I think it is too kind. I want the scum to live his or her life in prision, in general population, so that they can suffer.

I can listen to a new song I like, over and over again, and not get sick of it.

I love to camp, but rarely ever do. Florida is too hot, the mesquitos could carry off a small child and we have aligators.

I don't get British comedy.

My daughter is the coolest person I know. She's 3 and listens to the Ramones, Social Distortion & The Gorilaz. And the Wiggles (she IS 3, after all)

I always wanted to learn to shoot a gun.

I once lived in my car for six months. I spent 6 months driving around the country, Exploring. 19 states all together, but spent most of my time in San Francisco, CA & Eugene, OR.

I don't make friends easily.

I've always thought I have a touch of OCD. Not enough to make me weird, just quirky.

I've always wanted to go on a hot air balloon ride.

I bite my nails. It's my worst habit, next to being late.

I wish I could bottle my daughter's energy & joy and sell it. I'd make a fortune!

I once had a dream that my husband was going off to Iraq and he was leaving Toby Keith at our house, to take care of us. I has some really wierd dreams when I was pregnant.

My favorite ice cream is Haagen-Daz chocolate chocolate chip. But I don't really like chocolate.

I hate when you let people out in traffic & they don't wave to say "thank you".

I'm shy in groups. Probably why I like to people watch.

I don't like The Rolling Stones or Led Zepplin. I think they're talented, but overrated.

Speaking of overrated. Ben Stiller annoys me. Espically in There's Something About Mary & Zoolander. Dodgeball & Meet The Fockers were only good because of their supporting casts.

I think people over a certain age should not be allowed to drive. I'm sure I'll feel differently, when I'm that age. But they shouldn't be allowed to drive, or at least road tested every year. I say that after being hit head on by a 96 year old driver who thought it was ok to go on a red light.

My husband, my daughter and my mom are my best friends.

Saying that, I wish I was closer to my son.

I once rescued a kitten from going to the pound, just to hook up with it's owner. Eight years later, they're both still around.

I have 12 tattoos and would have more, if I found a really, really good tattoo artist.

I love the feel of a freshly shaved head. Smooth one way, and prickly the other.

I find it easier to be friends with men, than women.

My Grandfather died from bladder cancer in 2005. He was 86 years old & completely healthy up until he was diagnosed in 2003.

I have 6 brothers and sisters. I don't share both parents with any of them. I have 2 step sisters, 3 half brothers and one adopted sister.

I've always wanted to learn how to surf.

I've never lived in a big city. I prefer smaller towns.

I hate love handles on otherwise skinny guys.

I believe there is nothing more exciting than a first kiss.

I fell in love with my husband the first time I met him. 7 years later, we started dating.

I don't believe in holding a grudge. Say what's bothering you and move on.

I hate being bored, but I don't always have to have something to do.

I think I was born in the wrong era.

I hate roller coasters. I don't like not being in control.

I love lists. Espically "to do" lists. Crossing things off makes me happy.

I have a really bad temper. I'm a redhead. It goes with the territory.

If I had a body like Jessica Alba, I'd wear as little clothing as possible. But that is only because.......

......I hate Florida in the summer. It's WAY too hot! But at least we believe in air conditioning, down here!

I don't like cut flowers in my house. I'd rather have a yard full of blooms.

I don't like playing video games. I do like the Sims 2, however. But, again, that's a control thing. It's like playing God for a little while.

I have dirt brown eyes. I always wanted hazel eyes.

I have a low tolerance for ignorance.

I had a blood clot in my leg when I was 21 and almost died. I spent two weeks (while on vacation) in intensive care.

I laugh when I'm nervous.

My almost 14 year old son is taller than me & shaves. It makes me feel old.

My favroite time of the day is very early in the morning, but I like sleeping, so I don't often get to see it.

I once pierced my nose with a safety pin and a baby carrot in a park in Springfield, Oregon. When my grandmother saw it she shaid she never realized how big my nose was, until I drew such attention to it. She know what she was doing. I took it out that night.

I love to mow the grass. It's my favorite job around the house to do.

and finally..........#100 (if I've counted right)- I find it really hard to come up with 100 things about myself, and still sound witty, nice & smart. (yes, that's me patting myself on the back and wiping the sweat from my brow)

See here for a visual take on this!

Abandoned cottage, Doohey, Co Donegal, Ireland.

100 things about me # 6: I will go back to Ireland someday. I want to walk on the beach at Doohey, and climb around on the rocks pretending that I'm the pirate Grainne Mhaol again.

Not that it was requested, but I was inspired by the inimitable Fubuki to come up with my very own "100 Things About Me" List.
Here goes:

I once had a dream where I hugged a girl who subsequently purred like a cat. It was wonderful.

I wish someone would put in a pill what makes dogs so happy.

That being said, I think most prescription drugs are over prescribed.

I was a DJ at an African-American radio station when I was 16.

I think lemurs are cute.

It wouldn’t surprise me if science proves one day in the future that some forms of cancer are caused by boredom.

I’ve never known a red-headed guy I liked and fear having a child with a woman who grows up to be a red-headed guy I don’t like.

I had a cat named Figment who I named before I knew what the word meant. I saw the name on a little plush toy dragon at a friend’s place when I was young. I found out years later that it was a Disney character. My poor cat. I think Disney cartoons are the worst, except Ducktales.

I think the Coen Brothers are highly overrated, but I liked Clooney’s performance in 2 of their movies. Okay, the Hudsucker Proxy was great for the first 45 minutes. And I've really only seen John Turturro's excellent entrance in the Big Lebowski. And I loved Tom Hanks in the Ladykillers. Alright, I've changed my mind about the Coen brothers.

I love summer, hate fall and winter, but when it gets cold, I love a steaming hot bowl of clam chowder with loads of black pepper after I’ve spent a long time in the cold.

I believe women are masters of indulging their spirit, i.e. pampering themselves with a massage, manicure, day spa, and men would be wise to learn from this and treat themselves well for the sole purpose of feeling good.

I like cats about 5 to 10 percent more than dogs, but love them both for different reasons.

I believe that growth, fear, and courage are inextricably intertwined.

I’m spiritual and not agnostic. Agnostic means that “the ultimate cause, or God, is not knowable with human knowledge.” Who says? Maybe I’ll have that ultimate epiphany. I may get there yet.

I believe that if you say you definitely believe in any one thing or way of thought, you cut yourself off from many enlightening streams of new thought you would never have had access to had you not remained open.

I’m a second-class intellectual.

The scent of vanilla calms me greatly. When women wear it, it’s intoxicating.

My neck is somewhat long, and in elementary school, a classmate called me E.T. a couple times.

If common sense were so common, then everyone would have it. I like to think I have uncommon sense.

I looked like Wil Wheaton up until I was about 12.

I believe racial prejudice is a non-issue. I was over it long ago. “Equality for everyone!” Now move on. Please.

That being said, in the world in which we currently reside, I think that being a decent-looking white male can be a useful genetic camouflage at times.

I’m glad I was born a man, so I may love women. But, guys gross me out physically and I wish sometimes I were prettier.

I appreciate how much goes into a woman’s physical presentation, but it sometimes seems like a nasty obsession.

I like that women’s handwriting is cute.

I graduated from trucking school, but never used my CDL.

I learned how to line dance once and enjoyed the dancing far more than the country music I was dancing to.

I think Eddie Murphy’s last funny moment was Boomerang in ’92. He hasn’t made me laugh since.

Any restaurant that serves breakfast at all times of the day makes me smile. I love soft waffles and light and fluffy pancakes.

I believe in having role models and mentors even as an adult.

I think that being boring is the 8th deadly sin.

I think that the remix of Elvis’ “A Little Less Conversation” is one of his best songs ever.

I think Prince is one of the best guitarists ever.

I think Frank Zappa is an underrated guitar god.

I have no fear of death, but I absolutely dread chronic pain in my later years.

I’m a breast man.

I believe tripods hamper a photographer’s creativity when not used for macros. And, should be treated like a loaded gun around your family: used rarely and judiciously : )

If I really like a song, I can listen to it over and over again for well over an hour.

I believe vegetarianism makes little sense outside of preventing the undue pain of animals. Plant LIFE. Animal LIFE. Both are alive. The deal I struck from the time I was born was this: Something must die so that I might live to die another day.

I don’t believe in animal testing. Period.

I believe in absolute freedom of speech and thought. But please try to be nice.

I think George Carlin is one of the best stand-up comedians of all time and has only grown better with age.

I think Henry Rollins is an underrated stand-up comic. Seriously!

I think Dave Chappelle’s Rick James sketch is the best piece of sketch comedy I’ve ever seen.

My favourite outgoing phone mail message went like this: (delivered in a hyped up salesman tone) “You have reached the drug dealer of FUN! If you wanna have FUN, you come to me, and I’ll give you a HIT!” It generated more laugh messages than anything else I’ve ever done. It makes me smile just thinking about it, and always made me feel good when I’d check my messages and hear strangers or H&R Block reps laugh at it. Cool.

I think prisons should actually rehabilitate and that we should ask how the people inhabiting those prisons got there. And, that those who use drugs aren’t criminals. However, my view doesn’t abdicate personal responsibility.

I think the jury system is in need of reform. Read “Extraordinary Popular Delusions & the Madness of Crowds” by Andrew Tobias.

I believe right & wrong go out the window when it comes to survival, and if there ever was a time not to judge, it’s in those moments.

I believe that going into any conversation with the intent of making one person right and one wrong is futile. Unless it’s really funny.

I committed an entire year to trading stocks in an attempt to escape the rat race. I came out about even. I was very bored most of the time, but wanted out so badly. I still wonder if I could make it work.

I killed a bird when I was young. I was idly throwing rocks at a flock of birds and didn’t think I’d actually hit one. I did. It died instantly. It was a sparrow. I felt terrible.

I think old school rap is the best and that Dr. Dre’s The Chronic was the catalyst for rap’s downfall. Oh, and I can’t stand Eminem.

My sense of humour offends many people, along with my views on the world.

I’m an underachiever, but believe I’m capable of great things.

Haagen-Dazs’ Bailey’s Irish Cream ice-cream may be my all-time favourite ice-cream. I also really like Chubby Hubby and mint chocolate chip. Oh, and peppermint ice-cream too!

I love mangos.

I prefer fruit pies over cream pies.

I love Yankee Candles, both for their scents and the pretty pictures on the front.

I want to travel the world with anyone with as much of a voracious appetite for travel as I do.

I want to learn how to speed read and read an entire encyclopedia.

I sometimes feel I’m the super-confident actor in a movie I recently saw. It feels good. I’ve actually used it as a tool in certain situations.

I love interviewing for jobs more than having a job. I can be anyone for 5 minutes and find it amusing.

It concerns me that I rely on an employer to make my living.

I believe in Karma.

I have the same razor (different blades, of course) and telephone that I had when I was 16.

I can be too logical and am trying to purge this from myself in favor of intuition.

I exercise regularly.

I can’t spend a whole day in my apartment.

I want to tie up Lucky (of Lucky Charms) and Lady Luck, throw them in my trunk, and force them to pick lottery numbers for me at gunpoint.

I have a decent talent for writing.

I have a list of funny names I’d like to give cats: Baby Swiss, Toilet Brush, Petronius the Arbiter (Heinlein reference).

I have a list of things that go well together in pairs: drinkin’ and smokin’, bitchin’ and moanin’, chocolate and peanut butter, etc.

My earliest masturbation memories are from about the age of 3 to 5. Not sure exactly.

Nike Air running shoes are the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever worn. I hope they’re not made in a sweatshop, but if they are, I’d still wear them and implore Nike to stop that business practice. I’ll pay more.

I love thunderstorms when I’m in bed at night, especially if it’s really explosive and raining hard.

Blue is my favourite colour. I wear it well.

I’d rather it be 110 degrees than 65.

I’m attracted to the desert.

When the shirt’s off, I like soft, swollen nipples. When the shirt’s on, I like them hard.

I don’t usually like people who were born in the same month as me.

I’m terrible at oral storytelling, but would love to get good at it.

I have a beautiful Fender Stratocaster I’ve tried to learn to play 3 times, but it still hasn’t taken.

I have good-looking hands. No one’s ever complimented me on them, but I think they’re smashing!

I love the night and what it does to me.

I love an early morning walk.

I’ve always wanted to see the pyramids of Egypt.

I want to go skydiving.

I want to go for a hot air balloon ride.

When I was 17, I came close to drowning in a river and a very peaceful feeling came over me. It may have been at that point that I no longer had a fear of death.

I believe it’s unreasonable to expect that any one person will be everything for you. That’s too much pressure for anyone.

I think that a forehead massage before I go to sleep is very relaxing. Even if it’s administered by myself.

I hate using public transportation. I’m very grateful to have a car.

I never got into the Beatles.

When I travel, I prefer to stay at a Motel 6.

The Beastie Boys are the only relevant white rappers consistently making good music, but Kid Rock was good for a couple albums.

I feel pretentious carrying around a tripod in public.

I feel incessant use of cell phones, palm pilots, and iPods is unhealthy.

My left eye sees colour just a little different from my right eye.

I’m a little over 5’11” and wish I would have hit 6 feet. I never lie and say I’m six feet tall.

I once saw my doppelganger on a light rail who looked a lot like me, but 5 years younger.

I love the smell of marshmallows.

I recently totaled my 2005 Toyota Corolla and was overjoyed that I no longer had to make payments on it. I bought my next car outright.

I wrote a funny poem about my penis.

I have a story idea for a children’s book about a scab that fell off a boy’s elbow after using “Hurry Heal” brand ointment and gives the boy helpful advice.

I have another story idea for a children’s book about a boy who saves his village from utter destruction by pouring Pepto-Bismol into a nearby active volcano.

I once had the job of recruiting random people on the streets of downtown Portland, Oregon to come and work for a temp agency on a cold morning. I discovered that you can judge a book by its cover 90% of the time and be right. The other 10% will surprise you. I also discovered that the strange women I approached on the street were much nicer and more receptive than I would have expected. The men were almost exactly how I expected them to be.

My hair looks better when I use gel. It’s dark and shiny!

Asian women have the softest and most flawless skin I’ve ever seen.

Ajo, Arizona is the prettiest small town I’ve ever seen.

I don’t have many great stories about myself, except for the night I spent in an amazingly cheap hotel near Death Valley.

I carve a killer pumpkin.

I still have the Milli Vanilli album and listened to it recently. I still like a few tracks.

I like to stroke the back of my head after I get a haircut. It feels so soft.

I love the smell of hot-buttered, movie theatre popcorn.

I love the energy of the crowd at a sporting event, but hate all sports except boxing.

I came up with a list of humorous porn video titles. My favourite being: “Snuggle My Dumper”

I love the presentation of food. Especially a well-crafted dessert. I’ll go into a pastry shop or chocolaterie just to admire the beauty of it all.

I love my thesaurus.

100 things about me, #9: I am much more naive about some things than I'd like to be, but I'm learning. I think this is a result of having married for the first time while still in college. I missed all of the young-adult-out-in-the-world stuff. But I learned better, and ultimately much more important things, like how to be the best mother that I could.
