Jaycee Caramsalidis : Falcon Heavy: Uncertain Case for Lunar Exploration Interesting article. The FH is not the end all of SpaceX development as other launchers are on the drawing board. The Falcon X and XX launchers are extremely BEO capable. Okay, thety may not be ready yet but there is no money right now for a BEO (Moon, Mars, etc) mission anyway. Those launchers will be ready when the funding and infrastructure exists, I suspect, at a fraction of the cost of SLS. FH is closer to reality - last I heard - than SLS and SpaceX does have the track record of getting things done. When was the last time that US Government developed an effective manned launcher, with all American technology and affordable. been a while, hasn't it? Cancelling SLS may not be a good idea at this juncture - I would need to dig deeper - but I would not dismiss SpaceX solely on the limitations of the FH.

Richard Gaskin : Adventurer known as 'Real-life Indiana Jones' dies 88 Sadly, John Goddard has departed on The Great Adventure.

I'm very grateful to have had the opportunity to see him in person at the Los Angeles Adventurers' Club last month. He was a rare breed, the likes of which we see only once in several generations.

Goddard's famous list of 127 goals he wanted to accomplish during his life is an inspiration to all, inviting each of us to make our own list, take the time to prepare ourselves for them, and jump in and do 'em.

What's on your list?

Here are a few of mine:

1. Ride an elephant (checked that off the list when I was 4 - thanks Nosey)
2. Learn JavaScript (thanks to the Web and some tutoring from my friend Andre Garzia, and getting better each week of practice)
3. Take a wilderness survival class (I've taken five now, with plans for more)
4. Get certified in wilderness first aid (still to do)
5. Learn to cook really well (ongoing, but at least I make a decent creme brulee)
6. Learn to cook really well in the middle of nowhere on a 3oz single-burner camp stove (harder, but if you can pull that off you'll get invited on every backpacking trip )
7. Learn French well enough to read Voltaire in his native tongue (not even close right now)
