Here's a little information about this first episode:

Unemployed and unattached, Tom Chadwick (Chris O'Dowd) is surprised when he's bequeathed an old chest of curios by his great-aunt Victoria, although he and his sister Bea (Nina Conti) can't remember ever meeting her. He finds an old black-and-white photo in the chest that his father, Keith (Michael McKean), believes is Tom's great-grandfather, Harry. With the help of Mr. Pfister (Jim Piddock), his avuncular neighbor, and Pete (Tom Bennett), an old school friend, Tom tracks down Neville St. Aubrey (Christopher Fairbank), a strange expert in the field of antique photos, who discovers intriguing and revealing information about Tom's ancestor. Meanwhile, Pete tries to get Tom's love life back on track by setting him up with a "model pretty" date. He's just not sure what kind of model.

Family Tree premieres SUNDAY, MAY 12 10:30pm ET/PT only on HBO.

Stephen Bissette : More Comics Reprint Volumes Without Payment Dept: BOOM! Studios books HELLRAISER MASTERPIECES Vol. 1 & 2: Anyone have a table of contents handy? Count on the fact that not a single creator involved was paid for the reprint—HELLRAISER was the first work-for-hire title of the original Epic Comics line, and it was all downhill from there.

FYI, I was personally approached by editor Archie Goodwin and HELLRAISER creator/director Clive Barker back in the day as the project was coming together to contribute. I quickly concocted a synopsis both Clive and Archie loved—then I got the fucking contract. In a long phone call, Clive explained WHY it was work-for-hire: he had signed all rights to HELLRAISER away to New World in order to direct the movie, as his step into filmmaking for the mainstream, and that was that. I sadly withdrew my proposal, despite the enthusiasm for my story, and both Archie and Clive understood. I later wrote it up as a short story (still unpublished), but it really works only in connection with the HELLRAISER universe, really—it was that integral to the premise.

But at least I haven't had to experience Marvel reprinting deluxe editions and refusing to pay because said reprint was "merchandizing"; I haven't seen my work in the Checker Books reprint, sans payment; and I don't have to know it's now in the BOOM! coffers, enriching yet another publisher sans payment to the creators...
