The Ferret Haven : Rex Update:
Talked to Dr. Joyce today. The eye that was removed had a lymhphoma tumor inside. The left eye was not lymphoma. It is lymphohyperplasia. She upped his pred and continued all other meds the same. When he goes back for his follow up she will reaccess his eye and plan treatment accordingly. We will update you all again as soon as he has his visit. His sister Slinky was very ill this morning and had to be rushed into the vet. Please keep her in your thoughts and Sheri will update you all on Slinky's condition as soon as she is able.

If you squeeze it it immediately pours all of its toxins into you, guaranteeing infection! Angie Wilson : Just listened to the most fascinating Webinar on ADD/ADHD. Some of my take aways:

ADD/ADHD is:

1. a chemical problem.
2. characterized by a developmental impairment of executive function, emotional regulation and working memory

Keys to helping students be successful:

1. Build on strengths (don’t just focus on weaknesses)
2. Build scaffolding to help them build skills
3. Don’t dumb school down (ADD/ADHD kids are highly intelligent – they just need accommodations to help them rise to their full potential)
4. Help them understand the disorder (so they don’t minimize its impact, nor consider it a death sentence)
5. Help teachers understand the disorder and your child specific needs

There was some really cool information about the scientific aspect of the brain dysfunction, specifically how the deficit of dopamine release and premature uptake of dopamine causes the executive functioning symptoms. Dr. Brown went into further detail about why that makes the fine tuning of medicine is so difficult and different from one patient to the next.

Truly fascinating.
