James Zadravec : Seems like the trend in music is leaning towards Irish folk music like Mumford And Sons - Fun - I like it - it's a nice change of pace compared to the popular stuff that's out there where you can't tell who the band or artist is because it sounds the same. I just hope the music industry doesn't do what they usually do - when something breaks big that's different they sign all kinds of bands that do the same kind of music and ruin it.

Randall Watson : Made a new batch of food for my dog Ryzhik. I didn't have any wheat grass this time, but I did dissolve the contents of 3 Shaklee "Vitalizer Gold" daily vitamin/mineral strips to include. I had been concerned about the vitamin content last time, and reading up on dogs with heart murmurs, it was clear he needed CoQ10 and Omega-3's, also vitamin K. Maybe, just maybe his heart will get stronger and the K will help reduce the work load. I don't want him to die of congestive heart failure - he is only 16-1/2 years old after all.

So, it's 1 pound of lean (93%) beef, about 1/5 pound bacon, 2 small carrots, 1 cup of brown rice and ... all the nutrients from the naturally sourced best vitamin supplement on the planet. He ate dry food for so many years and now doc says "He's 16 years old. If he wants to eat some chicken, let him eat chicken" (interpreted "if he wants to eat some people food, let him have it).

Let's hope and pray he gets stronger... he gobbled his first meal like that down by the way.

Tony Morris : Timeline Photos Henry Saint Clair Fredericks, Jr. is turning 71 years old today. You will know him better as multiple Grammy award winner Taj Mahal.

His family owned a shortwave radio which received music broadcasts from around the world, exposing him at an early age to world music. Early in childhood he recognized the stark differences between the popular music of his day and the music that was played in his home. He also became interested in jazz, enjoying the works of musicians such as Charles Mingus,Thelonious Monk and Milt Jackson.

Mahal has worked with musicians like Howlin' Wolf, Buddy Guy, Lightnin' Hopkins, Ry Cooder and Muddy Waters. He and Cooder worked with The Rolling Stones, with whom he has performed at various times throughout his career. In 1968, he performed in the film The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus.

For some time Mahal thought of pursuing farming over music. He had developed a passion for farming that nearly rivaled his love of music—coming to work on a farm first at age 16. It was a dairy farm in Palmer, Massachusetts, not far from Springfield. By age nineteen he had become farm foreman, getting up a bit after 4:00 a.m. and running the place. "I milked anywhere between thirty-five and seventy cows a day. I clipped udders. I grew corn. I grew Tennessee redtop clover. Alfalfa." Mahal believes in growing one's own food, saying, "You have a whole generation of kids who think everything comes out of a box and a can, and they don't know you can grow most of your food." Because of his personal support of the family farm, Mahal regularly performs at Farm Aid concerts.
