Liberals Are Cool Liberals Are Cool : “…conservatives have bastardized the concept of the American Dream, and progressives largely have let them get away with it. According to today’s conservative dogma, the American Dream represents the chance in America to go from humble beginnings to vast fame and fortune through hard work. To conservatives, Steve Jobs represents the American Dream. In my mind, the real American Dream is entirely different. It is simply the ability of any American who works hard — a teacher, a cop, an auto worker — to enjoy a good life.”

Vincent S Fong Vincent S Fong : Timeline Photos     Daily chart: America's corporate profits are at a record high. Meanwhile corporation tax, which makes up 10% of the taxman’s total haul (down from about a third in the 1950s) has plummeted. Today’s chart shows how America's corporation-tax receipts have faltered even as company profits soar http://econ.st/YZRYre     Corporate Profits as a % of GDP are at their highest ever, while corporate taxes are at their lowest. Conclusion: Corporations do not pay enough in taxes. What is wrong with this data, and how can this conclusion be misconstrued from this simplistic data?

James Darrin Kates James Darrin Kates : Dambisa Moyo: International Aid Is Broken. Here's How to Fix It.     Moyo is so on point with the addictive nature of economic aid. To bad that we continue to ignore history and make the same mistakes over and over again. USAID and the State Department need to examine how China is transforming the "aid" around the world. Another example of why we, the United States, can no longer refer to ourselves as a hedemon power.

David C. Hoffman David C. Hoffman : China’s Brutal One-Child Policy     http://www.nytimes.com/2013/05/22/opinion/chinas-brutal-one-child-policy.html?smid=fb-share&_r=0

"One woman told me how, when she was eight months pregnant with an illegal second child and was unable to pay the 20,000 yuan fine (about $3,200), family planning officers dragged her to the local clinic, bound her to a surgical table and injected a lethal drug into her abdomen.

For two days she writhed on the table, her hands and feet still bound with rope, waiting for her body to eject the murdered baby. In the final stage of labor, a male doctor yanked the dead fetus out by the foot, then dropped it into a garbage can. She had no money for a cab. She had to hobble home, blood dripping down her legs and staining her white sandals red."

And this is what happens to a society that doesn't respect the rights of the individual. People's Republic, indeed.

Baba Jukwa Baba Jukwa : The Indian community, with the leadership of Mohammed Mussa, the Bhadella brothers and the Patel family are some of the most evil people, who sponsor my party to partake terror activities in the country. Some of the largest financial aid to ZANU PF comes from these three families who have been in it for a long time. They have a Committee chaired by Rakesh Patel whose duty is to mop up finances for the party among the Indian Community. Rakesh is very close to Obert Mpofu and Rugare Gumbo and these families have been given a privileged treatment in the country. The people of Zimbabwe, can not continuously keep quite while there are other people who are given preference over us because they sponsor evil. Please phone Rakesh Patel and warn him to stop this nonsense of sponsoring ZANU PF on the expense of Zimbabweans on phone 0772265265 and tell him to stop this nonsense.

Marco Hsiao Marco Hsiao : Tepid Thai growth deepens Asian slowdown fears     [Who did fear? Different judgment]

The melancholy of some US media is more and more grave; part of the reasons is "Sick Psychology of Declining Roman Empire", fear the US to lose top one position, so making illusion on foreign decline. They distort but I give you the truth and great prediction.

In 2025, Mainland China's GDP will surpass the US, before 2050 will be double, before 2100 will be five times; it is the destiny of world history. 2013 the economic situation will be similar to 2012, the best simple description - "Asia rise Europe down". For businessmen, the growth is always not enough, but 5% growth is very healthy.

[Sino-Southeast Asian trade will excel Sino-US or Sino-EU trade]

In reality China (Mainland + ROC Taiwan + Hong Kong + Macau), Southeast Asian and Korea (south and north) are all growing well, now Japan's growth is also not bad. Trade between China with Southeast Asia; Sino-Russian trade; Sino-Australian trade are all growing nice.

In 2012 the champion of international trade growth should be Vietnam. 8 years later Sino-Southeast Asian trade could be bigger than Sino-US or Sino-EU trade. According to the "Theory of World Center", after 2019 East Asia will replace Europe as new world center for next 500 years. East China will be the heart of the new world center.

After 2039, the popularity of supersonic airlines (2.2 Mach like Concorde), then East Asia will be stronger on the position of world center. So the growth rate of East Asia and its neighbors will lead the world in the long term, and it will expand slowly and gradually to 2039.

«But countries are not households. What a country needs to get wealthier is not more savings but rather more productive investment. Domestic savings matter, of course, but only because they are one of the ways, and probably the safest, to fund domestic investment (although perhaps because they are the safest, investment funded by domestic savings can also be misallocated for much longer periods of time than investment funded by external financing). Saving in itself, however, does not create wealth. It is productive investment that creates wealth. Domestic savings simply represent a postponement of consumption.»

The Honourable for look sharp oo! Word on the street is that China watchers are splitting their ribs. There is no place in China officially known as 'Guangxi Province', and there hasn't been for 50 years. The closest we have now, they say, is the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Hope some of the Galamsey folks didn't constitute themselves into a 'delegation' to try and wagadree the Honourable. mdfskkkkkkkkkkkk.

Asia's Unfinished Homework: Rebalancing Growth To Make It Sustainable

15-May-2013

Work in progress. That's an apt description for every region of the world. Each has its "homework" in terms of contributing to a robust, balanced global economy. Asia's assignment has been straightforward both before and after the global financial crisis: save less and spend more.

Overview
Asia continues to run a current account surplus, but the size of this "imbalance" peaked half a decade ago and has continued to decline since.

China looks quite ordinary, once we scale by GDP, being midpack in both the current account and foreign currency reserves. And the Chinese yuan is a relative outperforming currency.

Despite lower imbalances, Asia has work to do in its still-low consumption-to-GDP ratios, especially China and Singapore.

That's because Asia's recurrent, large external surpluses have played a major role in contributing to persistently unhealthy global imbalances. The region as a whole has run sizable trade and current account surpluses for more than a decade. In a global context, Asia has been the main current account surplus region (along with the Middle East, depending on the price of oil). And its counterpart on the current account deficit side has been the U.S. (see chart 1).

You want your own son and daughter in law to remain unchallenged still pandering advice to China ?
Feudalism is what we suffer. IN TRUE MERITOCRACY the entire team now running the show would have been sacked by now.

"One of China’s main challenges is “cultural habits that limit imagination and creativity, rewarding conformity….China will inevitably catch up to the US in GDP. But its creativity may never match America’s because its culture does not permit a free exchange and contest of ideas.”
