Fangraphs has started a product series; overlaying multiple pitches for pitchers and hits for hitters in one video to show the wide range of how pitches are delivers by the same guy from the same motion, or in this case, balls hit for HRs that are all out of the strike zone by MIggy.

In short, if you are a baseball fan, this is FREAKING AWESOME (both the video and the HR balls hit by Cabrera on pitches he shouldn't even be making contact with)....crazy. #back2backtriplecrowns?

Craig Shibley : Miguel Cabrera’s Ridiculous Plate Coverage | FanGraphs Baseball From the same man who put together the Yu Darvish gif, he did a Miguel Cabrera one.

Notes:

All of these pitches appear to be balls, or at best borderline. All of these pitches are from last year and go for home runs.

The outside pitches are hit the other way. The inside pitches are pulled. The high pitch is outside/middle and pulled. The low pitch is hit the other way. So, not only is he strong, but his fundamentals are amazing.

On the separated gifs, check out how consistent his setup/swing is.

On the bottom set of gifs, all of those pitches are considerably inside. Most hitters break their bats on those pitches. Good hitters hit weak ground balls. Great hitters will pull it foul. Cabrera hits them hard and keeps them fair. The one labeled 2 is in off the plate and goes to left-center. That is incredible. That is all in getting hands through first, and he does that as good as anyone ever has.

It really is a treat to be around with him doing his thing. Best hitter in the game.

The first one I saw starred Yu Darvish and his five different pitches' movements on a night when he was dominant (yeah, that doesn't narrow it down much in 2013). Anyway, my real point here is to ask Daniel Vedamuthu, my awesome brother, if he could show me how to do this sometime solely on the basis of the Rule of Cool.

Oh, yeah, Miguel Cabrera is ridiculous. He approaches Barry Bonds territory.

[It should be noted that Cagbrera sees waaaaaaaay more strikes than Bonds did from 2001-2007. Yeah, steroids, I know, but still: they guy barely ever saw strikes, and when he did on the inner half he just KILLLED them...he only mostly MAIMED the ones on the outer half.]

Baseball Cadillac Power Hitters Association : Let's talk about Justin Verlander for a minute, remembering his $25million a year deal. Knowing I'm a Tiger fan, I wasn't a fan of this signing and I'm even more concerned with his performance this year. He's 4-4, about to go 5-4, with luck with a 3.17 era and 60 k's. On the surface that looks okay,or does it? Yu Darvish is 7-2, era of 2.84 and 91 k's. Yu's making the same money. If I played fantasy baseball, I'd drop Justin in a heartbeat. Despite his usual stellar performance, he has a huge achilles heel: Innings 1 and 2. This has been his MOP since he started pitching. And the opponents know it. Beat him up early and the chances of beating the Tigers are very good. Do I think Verlander will lead the Tigers to post-season? Only if Sanchez, Scherzer, Fister and Porcello can pick up the slack. I just don't see him earning that pay for the next ten years.
