I understand the First Lady's point, but if we're going to have a national dialogue - which is what Mrs. Obama was engaging in - about the aspirations of our young people, then let's have an honest one. It's not as cut and dry as the FL put it. Our young people are attracted to being ballers and rappers, because the potential for upward mobility appears more promising than being a teacher or lawyer. Last time I checked, teachers are vilified and underpaid, and lawyers are demonized.

It seems that the topic of hair is a hot topic among black women, or women in general for that matter

Whether it be short, long, straight, natural, multicolored, weaved, there are many different ways in which women wear there hair.

Some suggest that this has a direct link to a female's personality and how she expresses herself

With styles becoming more and more eclectic some say that black women adopt certain looks as to try and look like their white counterparts. (i.e blonde hair, etc) Some people find this to be a bit contrary when black women speak of their
pro-black heritage and such yet come out the house with blonde hair flowing down their backs.

And not even hair, what about black women who wear uniquely colored contact lenses ? In some cases it can look "natural" but in others you could have a very dark complected person wearing bright green contacts looking like an XBOX or something LOL !!!

Then you have the issue of "going natural". A lot of women seem to be migrating to that look these days, some say for hair health reasons while others doing it as a style choice. Is this really a case of the "monkey see-monkey do" bandwagon or have women really become more conscious about their hair and caring for it ?

The institution of marriage these days is a very interesting topic with many different facets.

Typically a couple dates for a while, becomes engaged and then marries. Sounds simple enough right ? Now of course this isn't anything new but you always have those couples that are together for 4,5, even 7 or more years and still haven't got married. It's one thing if the couple has made the conscious decision not to do so (which is an entirely different topic in itself) but if you're in a serious relationship for that length of time and still don't have a ring (this is namely for the women) at what point do you start to think "Hey maybe this guy doesn't want to marry me", if you even think that at all ? Especially in situations where you're already living together, maybe have kids, etc.

Does it really make sense to stay in a stagnate situation when you know exactly what you want yet there isn't any open dialog about the matter ?

It has been said that marriages between couples that have been together a long time before they get married usually don't last. Is there a lot of truth to this ? If so why do you think this is ?

And also in regards to these types of situations what about things like ultimatums ? Is that really an effective way to get something like this considering you're basically threatening the other person ?
