Jeannie Lindsey Jeannie Lindsey : I have just read an article published by the Washington (AP) by Jennifer C Kerr. She is saying what I and other physical educators have been saying for years but have not been able to sell the idea to those in the Department of Education...those in the curriculum construction. The Report is entitled "Nation's Kids need to get more physical activity; Reading, writing, arithmetic and PE. To have a good education is absolutely necessary however, it is useless to develop our youth mentally if they do not grow to have a strong body in which to help them use their talent.

I remember physical education every day at Des Arc. Some of it was marching as if we were in the military; some of it was sports; some of it was calesthenics and some of it was very active free play. Thanks Mrs. Data Greer!

Authorities say there were no fatalities when an Interstate 5 bridge over a river north of Seattle collapsed.

The Thursday evening bridge failure dumped vehicles and people into the water.

Marcus Deyerin (DayERin), a spokesman for the Northwest Washington Incident Management team, said there were no fatalities or suspected fatalities. He said three people were rescued from the water and sent to area hospitals. He didn’t know the extent of their injuries.

A search of the river continues and a dive team was on scene as well as several rescue boats still on the river.

TsychoSis SDrc TsychoSis SDrc : US Boy Scouts to allow gay youths, not leaders     Well, one small step...many more to go. And they're right, we will usher "god" out the door AND open BSA up to gay AND transexual scouts AND scout leaders. Mark my words. :)

Excerpt:
"WASHINGTON — The Boy Scouts of America agreed for the first time to allow openly gay youths to join the organization, but will maintain a ban on gay adult leaders.

It updated the BSA's "membership standards," seen as symbolizing traditional US values. But the measure reaffirmed existing rules for adult Scout leaders.

Interest groups were quick to react.

The vote "is a significant victory for gay youth across the nation and a clear indication that the Boy Scouts' ban on gay adult leaders will also inevitably end," said Rich Ferraro with the gay rights group GLAAD.

Tony Perkins with the conservative Family Research Council, however, vehemently disagreed, saying the delegates "succumbed to a concerted and manipulative effort by the national BSA leadership."

The current BSA leadership "will bend with the winds of popular culture, and the whims of liberal special interest groups. There is little doubt that God will soon be ushered out of scouting," he added."

Sarah Dennison Sarah Dennison : John McCain Lectures Tea Party Senator on How ‘Business’ Gets Done in Congress: ‘That’s What We’ve B     It may be time to put the Maverick out to pasture. With all due respect, Sen. McCain, the American people let their feelings about back-room, closed-door dealings be known in the 2010 midterms when they sent Tea Party candidates like Sens. Kelly & Cruz to Washington instead of hiring clones of you and your buddy from SC. Your constituents may be happy with all the bacon you send home to AZ, but Sen. Kelly has his own bosses to answer to. That's his responsibility, not to uphold your underhanded traditions of compromise.

Susan Hewett Watts Susan Hewett Watts : Is Europe Giving Up on “Green” Energy?     "The naive faith of policy makers that Europe’s main competitors would follow this shift from cheap fossil fuels to expensive green energy has gone up in smoke. In reality, most nations are completely unimpressed by Europe’s approach. Europe, the Washington Post recently warned, “has become a green-energy basket case. Instead of a model for the world to emulate, Europe has become a model of what not to do.” EU leaders are beginning to wake up to the enormity of the green energy fiasco. They will meet in Brussels for an energy summit on May 22 to discuss how to respond to the crisis. –Benny Peiser, Financial Post, 14 May 2013

Soaring German energy costs in the wake of the country’s transition to renewable energy have seen more and more firms thinking abut relocating their operations. German industry lobby associations on Wednesday sent a warning shot towards the government in Berlin, saying that rising energy costs in the country would drive away more and more German companies. –Deutsche Welle, 22 May 2013"

Councilman Bill McIntire Councilman Bill McIntire : http://www.latimes.com/news/nation/nationnow/la-na-nn-bridge-collapse-washington-20130523,0,213719.s     How long before something like this happens here, because it will eventually? Ive been saying this literally for years, we need to invest in our infrastructure. It will make the highways, bridges and buildings safer. Moreover, it will get people back to work and they will use their paychecks to buy things; which will create even more jobs. Its a cycle of prosperity and we get new infrastructure as a result. How can this be a bad thing.

This is a better investment than throwing money at a Wall Street firm that doesnt need it. According to an industry survey, "the average bridge in our country is now 43 years old. According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, of the 600,905 bridges across the country as of December 2008, 72,868 (12.1%) were categorized as structurally deficient and 89,024 (14.8%) were categorized as functionally obsolete." Fix the infrastructure and get people back to work. Jobs mean disposable income which means more jobs. No-brainer.

It's simple, easy, free. Let them know your thoughts and frustrations and ideas. Yeah, it might just end up in a trash can somewhere, but then again, it might not. And it doesn't hurt to try, to say something, to do something. This is your country, let those guys/gals know what you think about collapsed bridges, potholes in the streets, schools who's programs are being shut down, etc. Don't just talk about it here on Facebook or Twitter. Government should stop playing politics with that Bridge. No body knows the number of vehicles that will be on top of it the day it will collapse.
