Don Vincent : Obama’s Rebuild America Jobs Act Might Have Prevented the I-5 Bridge Collapse
On September 8, 2011, before a joint session of Congress, President Obama introduced the American Jobs Act, which would have invested $741.1 million in highway and transit infrastructure in the state of Washington alone, and created 9,600 jobs. It was designed to make immediate investments in infrastructure, modernizing our roads and put hundreds of thousands of workers back on the job.
On October 11, 2011 it failed to get the 60 votes needed to move anything forward in the Senate, thanks to filibustering Republicans. According to the National Bridge Inventory Database, the bridge was deemed “functionally obsolete” as recently as 2010. 24 seconds ago - View -
AgWeatherNet : The weather across Washington since Tuesday, May 21st has been unusually wet and cool for late May. The past few days, although inherently unique, are particularly remarkable in contrast with the early May heat wave. Here are a few highlights to provide some context and perspective for the recent weather.
• The big winner for the week in terms of rainy and cool weather has been the Yakima area. With additional rainfall this (Friday) morning, storm totals of 2+ inches have been observed at AgWeatherNet sites including Moxee, Parker, and Pomona.
• Konnowac Pass and Toppenish have recorded 2.35 and 2.42 inches of rain since Tuesday.
• Along with the rain, the Yakima area has experienced very chilly high temperatures. On Wednesday, May 22nd, numerous locations experienced their coldest high temperature on record (1989 to present) for the entire month of May. Cowiche, for example, reached only 48 degrees on Wednesday. Prior to that, Cowiche had never recorded a sub 50 degree high temperature after the month of April.
• Pullman experienced a rapid temperature drop on Tuesday due to the passage of a cold front. The temperature decreased from 73 degrees at 11 am to 49 degrees at 3pm, which is typically the warmest time of day.
• The low temperature at Pullman dropped to 29 degrees on the morning of May 23rd. 31 seconds ago - View -

Jim Hollahan : Bayard Rustin - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The most influential civil rights activist you never heard of (or a lot of you probably, anyway): Bayard Rustin helped organize the first Freedom Ride in 1947; helped organize the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom in 1963; helped bring together the Southern Christian Leadership Conference to support Martin Luther King, jr,'s leadership; advised King and introduced him to the Gandhian principles of nonviolent resistance; and much more. Oh, and? Rustin was openly gay the whole time. And *THAT* is precisely why a lot of you have never heard of him. 1 minute ago - View -

Elisa Sanford : Biden Slips and Reveals True Aim of Government “Studies” | RedState Ah, yes. The Study. When it comes to Washington lobbying and public relations, nothing ads credibility to your position like a study confirming the validity of your position. Never mind that your position is in direct violation of the Constitution. Get the results you want from a study, publish it, run a PR campaign, get the media on board and eventually weak-kneed politicians will succumb to your “scientific evidence”.

Denise Drozd : While President Obama was addressing the Naval Academy, he used these words: "While Washington is amidst petty arguments...." So.....Benghazi, IRS, and AP investigation are "petty arguments?" I wonder if the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives think that finding out the truth is "petty?" I wonder if those targeted by the IRS think finding the truth is "petty?" I wonder if those reporters who were targeted think finding the truth is "petty?" I just watched a commercial for reverse mortgage financing, and the spokesman said it was a great deal because it was guaranteed by the U.S. government. Man, that really instills my faith in reverse mortgages! About the same as I am beginning to feel about our government. What happened to "by the people, for the people, of the people?" Man, do we need help!! Pray to God for our great country! We need it! 2 minutes ago - View -
