Sherri Davis Sherri Davis : Timeline Photos     Bottom up career plan.     Our heros. And I'm so proud to say I have two of the best on the department .....one of which is my Daughter Tasha and my wonderful husband Gilbert. They make one h*** of a team and definately a asset to the John Fisher Hose Company in La Junta, Colorado. So scarey when they go on a call but I know with their training and God guiding them that they will always come home to us. BUT DONT THINK I DONT PRAY THE WHOLE TIME THEY BOTH OR EVEN ONE GOES OUT ON A FIRE CALL. Also EMT's and I can honestly say the same there. You just never know what will happen. So always keep them in your thoughts and prayers at least once in awhile even when we don't have severe fires like Waldo Canyon or Canyon City or Black Forest. They are always out there doing controlled burns or even a structure fire. Thank you for you support and prayers!

Sandy Reay Sandy Reay : Colorado Springs is full of smoke, from the 3-4 fires in that part of the state. The smoke has made its way to the Hill.

Two of our fire trucks were out this a.m. putting a fire or 2. They're keeping the trucks in front of the station for faster response time. I am so grateful they're so vigilant and well-trained, and, well, there.

There's a vicious person in the Springs, driving a silver Honda (or similar car), throwing Molotov cocktails into grassy area in neighborhoods. I wonder if it's the same person who started 6-7 fires there last year, one of which might have been Waldo Canyon. I wonder if this person started the BF fire. I wonder what the appropriate punishment for this person should be. "Burned at the stake" just popped into my mind.

Christine Aleman Christine Aleman : Colorado is freaking burning like crazy! I woke up from a nap earlier with so much smoke in our house I thought Waldo Canyon was at it again. But to hear the Boy Scout Ranch is on fire down south is pretty heartbreaking. They're all safe but they did lose all their gear and camp. Hoping for some rain... Maybe I should wash the truck.

Cheering Crowds Cheering Crowds : On June 27th, a day after the Waldo Canyon Fire dipped down in to Mountain Shadows, me and one other family came out to the street corner on 31st and Fontenaro in Colorado Springs, Colorado. We started cheering on the first responders, firefighters, EMTs, police, military, and other support teams that helped to put out the blaze. As more people stopped and asked what we were doing, we simply replied, "We are cheering on the firefighters and everyone else, thanking them for all their hard work." By July 4, 2012, over 450 people shown up cheering them on. Now on the Black Forest fire in Black Forest, Colorado, again, the people shown up, lining the streets and started to cheer them on again. This is what sparked the idea for this page, Cheering Crowds.

This page will be to support everyone in the Protective Services. The rules are simple. Keep it clean, any insulting posts will be taken out. This is strictly to thank those that work so hard to make us safe every day in our lives, so no Politics please. Thank you to those that are out there risking your lives everyday to save not only our lives, but the lives of everyone else. I dearly hope that this will lift your spirits and keep you going when you feel a bit down.

Paige Catherine Paige Catherine : We smelled smoke so I panicked and checked out the Gazette. Turns out we're not in any danger. There's another wildfire in the state but it shouldn't affect us. Walsonburg apparently. And somewhere west of Denver. Any climate deniers wanna come forward and say this isn't global warming? Because I really think we need to start worrying about the fate of humanity. Also the Waldo Canyon fire and Black Forest fire traumatized me and now I hate the smell of smoke.

Side note: His camp was evacuated the week before he showed up due to the Black Forest wildfire. Hmmmm. They may not let him come back. He was at camp last year when Waldo Canyon lit up.

Michael Bliss Michael Bliss : Black Forest Fire 2013     The Black Forest fire is an ongoing forest fire that began near Highway 83 and Shoup Road in Black Forest, Colorado around 1:00 PM on June 11, 2013. As of June 18, 2013, the fire was 85 percent contained, 14,280 acres (22.31 sq mi; 57.8 km2) were burned, 502 homes were destroyed, and two people died.[4] It is the most destructive fire in the state's history, surpassing the 2012 Waldo Canyon Fire which also began near Colorado Springs.

The evacuation area is 94,000 acres (147 sq mi; 380 km2) acres, 13,000 homes and 38,000 people. Three shelters have been coordinated in the area for humans, including Elbert County Fairgrounds, which is accepting humans, pets, and large animals. Two other shelters are designated for large animals only.

As of June 13, the Denver Post reported, 457 firefighters were working the fireline, including agencies around the fire, the Colorado Air National Guard, and select personnel from fire suppression teams on Fort Carson and the nearby United States Air Force Academy. Governor John Hickenlooper addressed Emergency Managers at the command post on June 12. U.S. Northern Command is assisting with fire fighting efforts.     June 2013

I took this picture just a few hours ago - this mother deer had her two babies, in my front yard. As an evacuee of the Waldo Canyon Fire last June, it makes my heart sing to see the renewal that comes after the storms.

We all ache with the devastation of the Black Forest Fire, but we are Colorado Strong - and our community will rise together from this tragedy.

Lori Polette-Niewold Lori Polette-Niewold : I love Colorado but summer is hard---3 fires near us (put out quickly) and they still haven't found the arsonist who started 27 fires near us prior to Waldo Canyon fire that we were evacuated from for 6 days last year. Black Forest fire has been on national news and now today there are 2 more huge fires. One is ripping through about an hour north of us at 500 acres within hours. The smoke is horrible and we can see it from our balcony and smell it from every direction as the winds change. We have our association meeting this Sunday to discuss our way out since there is only one dirt road out of here and if there's a fire there---it's jump on ATV (only way to get through mountains and heavy woods) and let cats out, pray they escape, and have our 5 dogs follow us on ATV.

DEAF RESIDENTS PROMOTE SIGN LANGUAGE, CLOSED CAPTIONING DURING FIRE

Walter VonFeldt was in his home in Monument last week when he saw the glow of flames and smoke rising in the distance and noticed airplanes and helicopters flying overhead. He turned on the TV, but the images on the screen left him clueless about whether he should evacuate. VonFeldt is deaf and like many other hearing-impaired people he struggles with the inconsistencies of television closed captioning. But because the deaf community was vocal about a lack of accessible communication during the 2012 Waldo Canyon fire, an American Sign Language interpreter has shared the screen with officials during daily Black Forest fire briefings. / The Denver Post

Kristin Nelson, Literary Agent Kristin Nelson, Literary Agent : Just got a hold of my friend Dave who lives in Colorado Springs Black Forest area. His house is gone --the house where we all had a BBQ not that long ago... He was out of town so didn't even get a chance to do the "grab 5 prized things and go" evacuation.

He lost everything. Puts everything into perspective. I asked if there was anything he needed right away.

He said, "A giant sprinkler?" I said, "and time machine?"

He even joked, "now I can move to Boulder for no cost. I have nothing to pack!"

And that really does sum Dave up. He's the most optimistic person I know.

KKTV 11 News KKTV 11 News : EVACUATION UPDATE ON DOUGLAS COUNTY FIRE:
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is issuing a pre-evacuation order in the area near Night Hawk Hill or Pine Creek Road to the South and South Platte River because of the Lime Gulch Fire.

A pre-evacuation notice means you should prepare critical items to take with you in case you are actually told to leave the area. Those items might include money, credit cards, medications, cell phones and chargers.

Please monitor local news channels for fire updates. If the fire comes dangerously close to your area, an evacuation order will be sent. However, residents must maintain situational awareness. If you are in danger, DO NOT WAIT for an evacuation order. Take the initiative to leave immediately if local conditions warrant such action.

Colorado Black Forest Fire 2013 Colorado Black Forest Fire 2013 : A message from a firefighter:
PLEASE POST THIS!

People need to be very weary not to be taken advantage of by vendors claiming their houses are toxic or they need trees taken out of their property. If trees were an issue we would have taken them down or flagged them, or they are totally charred. If your house and windows were completely open then yes, you may have some smoke in there, but unless things burned in your house or the house next door is totally destroyed (and even then it still doesn't mean anything) then you don't need to vacate and spend money for nothing.

Please, as a firefighter still on this fire I don't want to see people taken advantage of! Call Fire Officials first or County Officials, NOT a private vendor!
