Parrot Ambassadors : What a crazy day yesterday. The birds did a great job at Auburn's Petpalooza. Roving Reptiles and Reptile Isle were before and after us. We love them, too! Had a good sized crowd for us which was fun. Handed out only flyers for Seattle Parrot Expo. But that was not the only thing we did for the day....

We started out the day at Port Orchard in the morning, signing up Exhibitors for Seattle Parrot Expo, getting people excited and enjoying Olympic Bird Fancier's Bird Expo. It was great saying hi to Russ Campbell of NWEBS, Judy Sawain of Avian Retreat, giving hugs to Sally Perry of Spoiled Bird Toys, seeing the great toys made by Annie of OBF, getting great prices on bowls with Barb of OBF, helping Julie Corwin out at her AFA booth to promote the upcoming Critterfest, buying birdie bread, signing up Sue Marshall, President of OBF for LLA, talking about finches and canaries! Even Ellen took home a new Rosie Bourke's parakeet.

WHAT A DAY! If you missed it, you missed out! Come back next year! It'll be even cooler!

Scott Jordan : I have the Trapped in Maine Lobster Company website (ad nauseum some of you are probably thinking). I'm considering t-shirts and bumper stickers to garner attention to the site. Here's my dilemma: Even though lobster sales account for most of my income, I'm not trying to promote lobster sales. I'm trying to promote sales of my mailboxes, planters and bird cottages. Trapped In Maine Trap Company is a bit redundant. Trapped In Maine Handcrafted Nautical Decor is a more accurate description, but it's probably not what somebody wants on their t-shirt. On the other hand, people are going to see "Lobster Company" on the t-shirts and stickers and visit the site expecting to buy lobsters. Any suggestions?

I posted some photographs from yesterday. They were the result of a walk taken by my brother, Gordon, his wife Sue, Nutmeg and myself. We were to try out the new Neuse River trail and Riverbend Farm Trail.

I have now crossed both suspension bridges over the Neuse River. The Riverbend Farm trail is accessible by suspension bridge, which connects it to the Neuse River trail. The trails were very pleasant, the Riverbend Park Trail is a bit open so you feel the sun. At the end of the trail, you can either walk up the access road to the park, or take an unpaved trail through the park. The trail was very pleasant but the grade at the end was very steep. It takes you up to a large meadow at the entrance to the park.

Returning over the bridge, we continued on an unlabeled portion of the Neuse River trail, unlabeled because it's unfinished. As we approached the end, we noticed a husband and wife staring into the trees. They had watched a blacksnake climb a vine into the tree and the snake was resting in the branches. I took a photo of the snake as it started back down the tree. Just a few feet later was trail's end, a board nailed across the bridge we were on. It ended in an old farmyard with a couple of log outbuildings. The farmhouse was hidden in a copse of trees. I got some photos of the outbuildings and then we headed back.

By my back door, there is a wreath hanging by the door. A couple of years back, a bird built a nest in it. Earlier this year I noticed that there appeared to be two nests on the wreath but I'd never seen the bird in it. When I came home, I looked up and a pair of eyes were looking back at me, the bird in the nest. I am now going to be using the front door for a while.
