The South Dakota Department of Social Services has been illegally removing Lakota children from their homes and their tribes, in clear violation of the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) of 1978, without giving substantial evidence or reasoning for many of the seizures (see recent ACLU blog: https://www.aclu.org/blog/racial-justice/why-are-these-indian-children-being-torn-away-their-homes). In addition to this, kinship care (children being placed with family members) is often denied. Because of this blatant denial of children's rights, these children are being moved away from their families, their culture and their traditions.

In addition to this, with funding coming from pharmaceutical companies and federal subsidies, many of these seized children are being labeled as "special needs" children and are put on cocktails of five or more psychiatric medications which have not been recommended for use in children by the FDA.

This is a continuance of the Indian boarding school system, which was created from 1879 throughout the 20th century in the attempt to break familial bonds and eliminate the Native culture, but it is dressed up differently.

The best solution to this slow cultural genocide that has been occurring for over 130 years is to empower the tribes with their own foster care and family services programs. With your help, we are well on the way to creating a foster care program run by Lakota, for Lakota. Please help us attain this solution by becoming a MEMBER: http://lakota.cc/1kvf8ka.

John Howard
John Howard : “The same winds that lifted King from behind struck the Kennedy Administration in the face. Intelligence reports noted that the Soviet Union broadcast 1,420 anti-U.S. commentaries about the Birmingham crisis during the two weeks following the settlement—seven time more than at the worst of the Ole Miss—Meredith crisis, nine times the peak during the Freedom Rides. When President Kennedy sent a message on May 21 to a summit conference of the independent Africans nations, stressing the importance of unity in the free world, Prime Minister Milton Obote of Uganda replied with an official protest against the fire hoses and ‘snarling dogs’ of Birmingham. President Kennedy saw that even one of his own soldiers was allowed to march in support of the Birmingham movement at a remote Air Force base in South Dakota, and that such a piddling event made the news. ‘How the hell did this happen?’ he demanded of Lee White.”

Fernando Rojo Pacho :         Chief Sitting Bull (1831?–1890)

Chief (Hunkpapa Sioux)
Statement, year unknown

American Indian chief of the Hunkpapa Sioux during the Plains Wars of 1865–90, the struggle between the Plains Indians and the USA. In 1868 Sitting Bull agreed to Sioux resettlement in North and South Dakota, but when gold was discovered in the Black Hills region, miners and the US army invaded Sioux territory. With the treaty broken, Sitting Bull led the Sioux against Lt-Col Custer at the Battle of the Little Bighorn , Montana, in 1876. Sitting Bull, Medicine Man and Chief was considered the last Sioux to surrender to the U.S. Government.

It is time we stop voting on the name of our parties alone and start paying attention to the people themselves and what they really stand for... Do you want corporate profits that benefit 492 people out of 300million or a country where everyone gets a fair share of the pie?

If you have been here the last 2 days celebrating our beautiful night sky, you would have been able to see the spectacular sight pictured below, among other phenomenons. Although our 3rd annual Badlands Astronomy Festival is on its final day, we still have a jam-packed day of scheduled activities! (dm)

Ramon Abarca : Timeline Photos     Dakota Whitetails' Sun Dragon as of July 25
lol.. and 'NO' this is not photoshopped but a real Ohio White-tail. I have him on video from a few weeks ago www.youtube.com/watch?v=mIcoGcWJH3o&sns=em. No GMO deer here... just good nutrition, good breeding, and a stress-free environment. This is not nor will ever be a hunted deer. Just like the big reserves in South Africa, they have breeder Cape bulls that are used for genetics and not hunted. 95% of South Africa is high fence. Look at all the game birds that are bred and released or lakes that are stocked... is there any difference? Hunt with us on a 3 square mile estate with NO EAR tags, no piles of corn and in a pressure-free environment. www.DakotaOutfittersLLC.com

I appreciate all the comments - not everyone's cup of tea. Before you say, "not natural" or other uninformed comments, know that around 1900 there were almost ZERO white-tails left in the "wild"! It was farmers like myself that the states got farmed deer from to release to repopulate. Now there are more deer than ever in this country. The estimated population of white-tails in Ohio in 1904 were ZERO which comes right from APHIS report: http://www.aphis.usda.gov/regulations/pdfs/nepa/Ohio%20Deer%20Damage%20Management%20EA.pdf

Many people don't believe this or have even considered the matter, but American Indians, Natives, Indigenous people of North and South America were all born without sin. As a matter of fact many Indigenous languages do not have an equivalent word for sin in their vocabulary.
