Wasim Saiyed Wasim Saiyed : This Day Yesterday - 267-Organization of African Unity formed
Saturday
25-May-13

On this day in 1963, the Organization of African Unity (OAU) was established in Addis Ababa, with 32 signatory governments. A further 21 states have joined gradually over the years, with South Africa becoming the 53rd member on 23 May 1994.
The main aim of OAU was to promote the unity and solidarity of African States; co-ordinate and intensify their co-operation and efforts to achieve a better life for the peoples of Africa; defend their sovereignty; eradicate all forms of colonialism from Africa; promote international co-operation, giving due regard to the Charter of the United Nations and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights; and co-ordinate and harmonise members’ political, diplomatic, economic, educational, cultural, health, welfare, scientific, technical and defence policies.
It was disbanded on 9 July 2002 by its last chairperson, South African President Thabo Mbeki, and replaced by the African Union (AU).

Fenny Fwa Fenny Fwa : I was an untrained journalist for 6 weeks, having worked with the then Gongola broadcasting corporation, as an editor11 with news and current Affairs dept. I couldn't continue because i nearly lost my job having written two news commentaries that were critical. The first one was critical of the then proposed state university. Inspite of the fact that it was heavily edited which to me was not what I had written, I was still queried and eventually warned. My second brush with the authorities was another news commentary which was critical of the award of contract to Israel company, known as flamingdon. My objection were on two grounds. One,the company was owned by Israelis and based in Tel Aviv, remember at time Nigeria had no diplomatic relationship with Israel bcos just like South Africa it was ostracised globally for its policies which were considered by international community as offensive to humanity. Thus patronizing an Israel firm was an illegal and unpatroitic act. Secondly, from my point of view, the contract was inflated as it was initially awarded to Bashong, an indigenous firm at the cost of # 25million by the then outgone military regime, but re awarded to the Israeli firm at #42million.The head of current Affairs dept and his Assistant that were supposed to censure the offending article were out of the state, the next officer in charge was not a very serious man and allowed the article to be aired unedited. That article nearly cost even the Gm his job. I was lucky I would have been sacked but for intervention of the then commissioner of information mrs fibi Nada,my cousin.
What I'm trying to say is that bcos of my journalistic instincts, I now realise that i shouldn't have veered to any other job. I'm therefore floating my fearless attribute as a credential for employment as a journalist. Fb brothers and sister if you are in the process of establishing a print media, pls remember me.I shall very soon go for training with uncle Tim.

Karan Malviya Karan Malviya :         Guinness World Records

Record (“The Inheritance/ C.I.D. 111″) Episode

The popular detective series got into both the Limca Book of Records and the Guinness Book of World Records for its record-breaking single shot episode, a feat which director B P Singh feels every “Indian should be proud of because no one has achieved this before.” More than a decade ago, in 1987, Singh shot an episode of his Marathi detective series Ek Shunya Shunya in a single take of 22 minutes.

Guinness WorldTitled “The Inheritance”, this episode is about a hotelier who comes down from South Africa to wind up his business and sort out his inheritance. All his relatives gather at the hotel in the hope of getting a share of his property. A murder takes place amidst them and the owner summons the CID. Just when the CID team thinks it has tracked the killer, two more murders are committed, this time in the presence of the CID thus intensifying the suspense.

This unique episode was aired on Sunday, 7 November 2004, at 8:00 pm IST. Shot continuously for 111 minutes, this was a unique attempt and thereby was given a special slot. Starring in Singh’s innovative experiment were Avinash Wadhwan and Krutika Desai, among others

Joseph Christopher Joseph Christopher : All someone online has to do to get to you is 'friend' one of your friends . Simple , suave and humble at the beginning . Then you might be awake enough to begin to see subtle changes in communication . Questions , sly inquiries and things that cause even the slightest twinge of suspicion just might help you to mentally shake your head . Just a little . Just a little is all you need . Should you , for the simplest reason , feel that something is not quite right ,heed that feeling , that fleeting warning . Don't go on as if it were just a thought with no base . It could be a touch of awareness that calls you to investigate . Look deep into every request and you can save yourself from agents of deception.
In the beginning of my online experience I was gifted with a few viruses , a few undesirable acquaintances , a couple of immature 'friends who turned on me the moment I disagreed with them and at least two fellows who 'unfriended ' me because I chastised one of their mentally imbalanced online buddies . Oh , well.... Now I see the need for deep exploration and asking of questions when someone asks for anything online . Some folks have multiple accounts and slip back and forth through them . You can piece together the fact that 1 or more accounts are maintained by someone who relates the same way on every one of them.
Hopefully you are thinking right now , that you should scan all your lists ; friend list , membership lists and all others . If so , then I've done what was intended .

Wherever gay people gather publicly to celebrate their sense of community, there are two important results. First, onlookers can be impressed by our confidence and determination to be ourselves and, second, gay people, of whatever age, can be comforted by the occasion to take first steps towards coming out and leaving the closet forever behind."
