“Let your reasonableness be known to everyone.”

Wow. That doesn't seem like it would be too difficult a command. Being reasonable isn't something that should be hard for any mature person. But, when you throw religion into the mix, it can become an entirely different thing. There are some who would even say that there is not even room for being reasonable about your religion. Is that right?

When it comes to matters of belief, people have a tendency to dig in their heels. I believe something just because I always have. I don't need another reason. But is that really all there can be to our beliefs? Nothing more than blind faith? Paul didn't seem to think so. Some in the world have called religion the, "opiate of the masses," implying that the only purpose of faith is to pacify the ignorant. But Paul was anything but ignorant. He was incredibly well learned and the list hardly stops with him. Famous thinkers like Copernicus, Galileo and Sir Isaac Newton all counted themselves as Christians, and no one would say that they were idiots. These were men who tested not only their beliefs, but those of the world around them, and yet their faith seemed to remain strong.

Christians should be known as the most reasonable bunch of people on God's green Earth. We shouldn't be afraid of new ideas or opinions, whether they come from the world of science or the world of religion. Our all consuming faith in The Almighty should only make us strive to learn more so that we can know Him better. We needn't shy away from different points of view because, even if our faith is tested, that is only an opportunity for us to become stronger. So go forth and learn. Think, dream and listen. Our God can stand next to any argument and we, as God's children, can too.
