Once the noise had faded, and we didn't hear anymore debris hitting the ground, Jerre opened the door. As we climbed out and stood looking at our vehicles covered in mud and debris the shock of what we just went through started in. As we walked further out into the yard, disbelief and horror at what we saw is just minor expressions of what we were all feeling on the inside. We could see others starting to emerge from their homes, or what was left of them and just wonder around in a daze, really unsure what to do next. We tried calling people but no one had cell service. Then in a panic Victoria, my daughter grabbed her keys and said I've got to go find Matt's mom and family!! As we turned to get in the car, a man came racing around the curb yelling out "there are kids trapped in that school, you've got to go help"!!

Joe Tolley : Welp, boys and gals tommorows the day we wear our priest looking uniforms and walk in the graduation ceremony and start a new life. I just wanna thank all my teachers, buds, and my family for not giveing up on me when i was giveing up on myself. Last year when my dad passed away I couldnt focus in school I would just daze out , life just didnt seem real I started to do stupid stuff and get suspended I just didnt care anymore. I was just going to drop out and give up,- It's not easy listening to a teacher and dealing with drama when your dads on your mind the whole time. But my teachers, friends and family all told me to snap out of it and im glad they did that because if i woulda drop out that woulda been another stupid decison in my life i woulda regret.... LOL MY HILLBILLY ASS Made It! haha Only god knows why,-- shit happens for a reason i guess cause i kno for damn sure them teachers couldnt read my caveman handwriteing.

Today, I took my last final of this first Semester back in school. I feel really alive and awake. Started this year being "thrown out of the nest" in a lot of areas in my life....and DAMN if I didn’t...hit the ground more than a few times.... Walk around in a daze.... gave up...gave in... Let good friends and family and wife nurse my wounds.....then...finally... flew. Not too far, but enough to know I like the feeling. I like it a LOT.

Belinda Sue Howse : YCHS Choir 1976 Bus Crash: How it happened When this crash happened Fred and I were coming out of Stauffer Chemical in a dump truck. We couldn't read the name on the side of the bus because it was flattened. Our children were on field trips and the fear that griped us thinking it was our children's school bus, I have never had a fear like that since this happened. People were walking around down town Martinez in a daze. I worked at the sand pit by the Veterans hospital, they brought the driver and some of the students to this hospital. No one was answering phones at the schools so we did not know what bus it was. This is why I have been the safest driver for 43 years that i could be. When i first got my school bus licence I had to go to the CHP in Sacramento they showed this film and other films like it to us and that stayed in my mind forever. I thank God and pray every time I get behind the wheel to watch over my bus full of kids. And for all these years he has done a great job. This goes out to all the bus drivers who do really care about kids and how we drive. God Bless each and every one of you. How the accident happened, where the public memorial is located, and announcing the date of the dedication ceremony.

Roger Hitts : didn't get David Bowie concerts in our Flint/Saginaw area when he was a kid. But we sure as heck got Uriah Heep, and remember seeing Trevor Boulder playing bass for them on their 1977 Firefly tour. It was a job he kept, more or less, for 35 years and on occasional chats with him over the years, he always seemed contented and happy. Of course one plus was that Uriah Heep actually paid him, unlike Bowie in his Spiders From Mars years. And in his last interview, in this month's Classic Rock UK magazine shortly before he died of cancer, he lays it all bare. Good bloke and a fine musician, Trevor was.
