Markets from the Desk of Dwarkadas Agarwal Markets from the Desk of Dwarkadas Agarwal : South Korea’s won fell to a four-week low after North Korea fired missiles over the weekend, fueling regional tensions. Government bonds declined.

Dictator Kim Jong Un’s regime launched one short-range guided missile yesterday, following three short-range projectiles on May 18, South Korean Defense Ministry spokesman Kim Min Seok said by telephone yesterday in Seoul.

The won dropped 0.2 percent to 1,119.70 per dollar as of 10:13 a.m. in Seoul, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. The currency touched 1,121.08, the weakest level since April 23. One-month implied volatility, a measure of expected moves in the exchange rate used to price options, rose 36 basis points, or 0.36 percentage point, to 9.52 percent.

“North Korea fired the short-range missiles over the weekend, increasing geopolitical risks,” said Hong Seok Chan, an analyst at Daishin Economic Research Institute in Seoul. “The won may fall to the 1,120 per dollar range as the yen is expected to weaken against the dollar, and we’ve been seeing the won-dollar moves along with the yen-dollar trend.”

The won has fallen 4.9 percent versus the dollar and gained 14 percent against the yen this year. That makes it harder for South Korean exporters such as Samsung Electronics Co. and Hyundai Motor Co. to compete against Japanese rivals overseas. Foreign funds sold $4.7 billion more Korean equities than they bought this year through May 16, exchange data show.

Also, tornadoes touch down in Oklahoma and Kansas, leaving behind damage near Oklahoma City. We'll have the latest and the forecast on Eyewitness News.

And more tension on the Korean Peninsula this weekend - first North Korea launching three short-range missiles Saturday and a "projectile" today and now South Korea readies its response.

Jayne Moore Jayne Moore : TO ALL THOSE WORRIED ABOUT OBAMA BEING MUSLIM

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Islam is the largest minority religion in Denmark. According to the U.S. Department of State,

Islam has been present in the United Kingdom since its formation in 1707, though it was not legally recognized until the Trinitarian Act in 1812. Today it is the second largest religion in the country with results from the United Kingdom Census 2011 suggesting that by 2011 the total Muslim population had reached 2.7 million, 4.8% of the total population

Islam is the second-most widely practiced religion in France behind Roman Catholicism by number of worshippers, with an estimated total of 5 to 10 percent of the national population.

In 2010, the Pew Research Center estimates there were about 940,000 Muslims in Canada. 5% of all the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) population is Muslim, making GTA the highest concentration of Muslims in any city in North America.

Chinese Muslims have been in China for the last 1,400 years of continuous interaction with Chinese society.[1] Muslims live in every region in China

In South Korea, the Muslim population has been steadily increasing since the introduction of the Islamic faith shortly after the Korean War. The Muslim (both Korean and foreign born) community is centered around Seoul, where the first large 20th-century mosque was built in 1976 using the funds of the Malaysian Islamic Mission and other Islamic countries.

According to japanfocus.org, 'There are currently between 30 and 40 single-story mosques in Japan, plus another 100 or more apartment rooms set aside, in the absence of more suitable facilities, for prayers.

Islam is the second most widely professed religion in the Russian Federation. Islam is considered as one of Russia’s traditional religions, legally a part of Russian historical heritage.

Man VS English Man VS English : CNN Student News - 5/20/13 - CNN.com Video     On Monday, CNN Student News reports on missile launches from North Korea, severe weather in the midwestern U.S., and a massive explosion on the moon. We also consider what a reality TV show might say about Palestinian politics, and we hear a bit of advice for high school graduates from first lady Michelle Obama. Plus, a story about a $446 tip leads to a blog question about what students would pay for good service.     North Korea test fires missiles, a meteoroid makes an explosive impact on the moon, and a reality TV show asks Palestinians to pick their next "president."
