Carmen Stermann Carmen Stermann : Timeline Photos     Books! Glorious books! Did you know that today is World Book Day? Let’s share some of our favorites. What do you say? I’ll recommend two for you now:

- The Secret History by Donna Tartt

- The Tiger’s Wife by Téa Obreht

I have so many different kinds of favorite books. The first novel I ever read for pleasure was Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe, which I read when I was nine years old. I still love it. I read Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse when I was in high school and it changed my life. My favorite biographies are Dino by Nick Tosches and I, Fatty by Jerry Stahl. I love art books! Favorites on my shelf include a collection of works by Egon Schiele and another of paintings depicting the temptation of St. Anthony by various artists. I have some beautiful dictionaries (including a very old edition of the Petit Larousse Illustré) and a hard cover, gold leaf edition of Gray’s Anatomy. I collect editions of The Norton Anthology of English Literature. I’m proud to own the complete literary works of Crispin Glover. Poetry books by Neruda and Larkin and Brautigan and Prévert. I have a whole shelf dedicated to baseball history. Years ago, my ex-wife bought for me a copy of Max Ernst’s A Young Girl Dreams of Taking the Veil and it’s my favorite thing I own. Philosophy! So much Nietzsche and Žižek and Voltaire! Bonkers pulp novels with titles like Perverted Love Slave, The Frustrations of Judy, Abnormals Anonymous, Nympho Lodge, Naked on Roller Skates, Prison Camp Degenerates, Sexy Psycho, Backwoods Hussy, Starship Intercourse, Sex Challenge, Amorous Dietitian. Those Sexy Saucer People, Fade to Blonde, Sex Hobos…

Man, I love books! I think I’ll celebrate World Book Day today by buying a few new ones. What do you say?     World Book Day?! Buy another book?! Twist my arm!
