Tajudin Ismail : The religion of Allah SWT is not something you can succeed from your fathers or your mothers. Someone being the son of a great scholar doesn't really mean he's going to be a religious person and someone being the son of a great opposition of Islam doesn't necessarily mean the son is going to become the same person as the parents. It all boils down to our intention and desire to change and become a good Muslim. Based on many readings that I have done, I do notice that many of the companions of Rasulullah SAW who support the Prophet SAW greatly in his mission of dakwah are the children to the most stern opposition of Islam that time.

Ikrimah bin Abu Jahal, the son to Abu Jahal.
Abu Huzaifah Bin Utbah, the son to Utbah bin Rabiah.
Amr bin Al-As, the son to Al-As bin Wail
Khalid bin al-Walid and Walid ibn Walid, the sons of al-Walid bin Mughirah
Safwan bin Umayyah, the son of Umayyah bin Khalaf
and many more which are quite difficult to mention here.

Pondering upon their stories kept us wondering, why should we put a 100% blame on our parents for not educating us well about Islam when we actually have the chance to learn more about it ourselves.

#Islam doesn't spread by mean of lineage, Islam spreads by mean of tarbiyyah. =)
