Dodger Talk : MATTINGLY AND ETHIER CLASH HEADS

After Don Mattingly elected to bench Andre Ethier again, he was quoted as saying he wanted to put a club on the field "that is going to fight, to compete the whole day." Ethier did in fact take offense to it, saying he did not like the comments being made "without approaching me (Ethier) first."

Rumors of regret are boiling behind the scenes concerning Ethier's recent contract extension. With the Dodger's #1 and #3 prospects, Yusial Puig and Joc Pederson, bludgeoning minor league pitching, trade rumors are more torrid than ever. Trading Ethier at this point would no doubt clear up millions in cap space and also make room for the new young bloods on the Major League roster. The only challenge would be finding a suitor who is willing to weather the lengthy and expensive contract for a 31 year old outfielder who has never hit LHP with any consistency.

As the situation develops, it will be interesting to see in Scott Van Slyke will continue to perform as he has done in recent weeks while platooning the right field spot with Ethier.

John Chappell : One for the Royals fans: A trade of Kelvin Herrera to Arizona for Gerardo Parra has been floated on the rumor wire, at least according to Todd Soden. I did a tiny bit of research and it sounds like a good move, since the Royals have plenty of relief pitchers and a big hole in right field named Jeff Francoeur. Francoeur can't hit right-handed pitching but does well against lefties, to the tune of .288/.340/.476, while Parra is just the opposite: .290/.343/.427 against right-handers, but he can't hit lefties. If you platooned them you'd get pretty good production.
